    I’ve waxed a few items. I found that melting the wax, using a brush and then a heat gun proved to be a good route.

    I tried this on my G1000 trousers put two coats on and they became so rigid and noisy. I would only apply one full coat. Used hairdryer and it was easy. You will also find after application the trousers or garment may look dirty or distressed, but it is the wax and all you need to do to fix is run the hairdryer over to re-melt the wax and they will look great again.

    I use my ski waxing iron. Love these pants for spring and summer ski mountaineering and backpacking. I was working in a used gear shop when someone brought a pair of these in eight years ago. I bought them for $30. Best pants I've ever owned. I only wish there were some more secure pockets because I worry about keeping my smartphone under a single snap.

    Great Video, I bought a pair of the Vidda Pro at the Fjallraven store in Banff (216 Banff Ave, Banff, AB T1L 1A8, Canada) and loved them so much, I returned and bought 4 more pairs, Two bars of wax, three belts, Skogsgo Jacket and Sigi Cap. I noticed that when they are new, there is very little wax and water repellent, so with the wet season approaching here in North Idaho (47th parallel) it's time for some wax magic. I was a little nervous about how to do it and found your helpful channel. I was ready to use my ski wax iron, but I like your blow dryer method. I read that normally you wax the butt area and the top side of the thighs, knees and direct exposed areas but not much else. Thank you for sharing the water repellent finale. Totally amazing!!!! Wax on brother. Skoal!

    on a side note, you can make your own Greenland wax take 10 - 20 % beeswax, and melt it with 80/90% paraffin wax poor into a container like a square soap bar-shaped shampoo bottle and when dry cut off the container. The more beeswax the more pliable the bar is but I wouldn't go over 20%. You can even upgrade it and mix in some lavender oil or similar to give it a bit of insect repellency.

    Great video! I'm curious if the pants are lined on the inside. If not, then do you have the wax coating on the inside of the fabric (as well as the outside) against your skin?

    • @CanoehoundAdventures
      @CanoehoundAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      No lining on the inside... so yes if any of the wax permeates the material the wax will be against your skin.
      I have not had any issues or irritations from waxing the pants or the wax being against my skin...

  • @retiredoutside

    Nice tutorial, Dennis. I'm curious if you've worn these pants since you waxed them and how comfy you found them. The first time I wore my freshly waxed Fjällrävens I made the mistake of wearing briefs. The stiff waxed fabric caused chafing in regions that don't enjoy being chafed. I always wear boxers with them now and haven't had that problem since.

    • @CanoehoundAdventures

      Bees wax may attract bears but I think it is unlikely. However this Greenland wax is a paraffin based wax so it reduces the risk IMO

    this wax waterproofs fjallravens for 15 meters into waist high wet grass . takes longer to mess with the wax and iron / hairdryer than it actually waterproofs your pants for , if you need waterproof pants ..you really need to buy waterproof pants ,, these things ARENT belstaffs which actually work with wax long term ... plus you cant wax the pants camping over any length of time ...
