Good job with the video! My turntable came yesterday, and I struggled to balance the tonearm. I watched your video, and it gave me so much insight. I didn't have the counterweight push on, so I kept turning the counterweight, and it was not budging, but I got it, and it sounded fantastic. Thank you
Nice vid, Jennifer. I've had the RT85 for about 8 months now and love it. After setting it up I checked the stylus pressure, tonearm alignment, and leveled the turntable just to make sure. The factory settings were perfect. No problems to report and I've played it a ton. For the money you won't find a better turntable with the same features.
From the first word, “Oh hey, I think she’s from Texas!” Love the concept, and the execution was perfect. Informative but not overly technical. After seeing a few of these videos, the knives interlude cracked me up. “Girls (and novices), we want it to be simple, we want to hook it up, and we we want it to sound GOOD!” Amen! (I don’t know about y’all, but we stocked up on some firewood in Houston this winter - just in case!)
I bought an RT85 when they first came out. I absolutely love it and the Ortofon Blue cartridge! 🤘

I completely agree with your assessment of the RT-85T. I bought mine in March, 2019, and I’ve never found a better value for the bucks. It’s exceptional. It impressed me so much that I purchased Fluance's 5.1 surround-sound HTX-HTB speaker system. I’m happy.
BTW, Fluance makes it their practice to pre-align the included cartridges with their turntables, so it is an easy set-up experience. If you choose to install a different cartridge, you’ll have to reset the alignment yourself.
I appreciated that you included your comments of validating the tracking force, and then validating the anti-skating using a smooth disc (meaning no grooves), and I’ve done the same myself. If I would ask you to add anything more to your video, it would be to focus on the care and maintenance of the stylus, and how to clean and maintain your LPs. I have a well-known LP maintenance system that I’ve used when necessary, but (for me) I use the basic tools to clean my LPs both before and after playing them. Proper storage in anti-static sleeves is essential, IMHO.
BTW, did I see a Maltese puppy slip into the video? I have two of my own.

Haven't watched the video yet but I will tomorrow. My RT 85 is due to be delivered in two days. I've had my eye on it but the price was holding me back. Two days ago I got an email from Fluance saying they were running a sale, 15% off.
Well, I couldn't turn that down. Got a $500 turntable for $425. Already got higher quality cables.
Can't wait to set it up and listen to my favorite albums.

Great video. Well done. If you ever get the itch to upgrade your cartridge you might want to take a look at a Nagaoka mp-150. That's not to say that the Ortofon blue is bad. I was using a 2m Blue for a couple of years and liked it a lot but tried out the Nagaoka just to see what it was like, and fell in love with the warmer sound coming from my speakers. Highly recommended.

Great job. Fluance is an outstanding company. I have it paired with Klipsch “The Fives” powered speakers. Two of the finest pieces of electronics I have ever bought. And may I say - you are a natural on camera.

I had a Denon twin cd deck n 4 channel stereo built in mixer in early 2000s. I lived in Galway then. Sold it for 800 euros I defo like the style of this turntable. You look fine by the way. Nice first video.

Nice review Jennifer. I have a Sony PS-LX310BT and have decided to upgrade. The RT85 keeps coming up in my research but I am a little skeptical about setup. Thanks for doing a great job with the actual setup including showing the digital scale. I will probably go with the RT85 and sure hope I can set it up and adjust it as well as you did.

I just did the same. Ordered my Rt85 and listed my RT81 on ebay. Better than upgrading only the cardrige.

Well Jennifer after listening to a large group of nerdlingers and basically remaining as unsure and doubtful as when I began I watched your review and 10 minutes later have placed my order , I actually got my Onkyo system and all my Lp's out and realized my turntable isn't doing the job. $530 total from amazon. Jennifer, great video outlining the turntable and use with wireless speakers & in an apartment setting. I have an old Marantz Gold Series Amplifier and turntable from 1979/1980 that still sound awesome today. Unfortunately being in an Apartment as well I don't get to use it as loud as I would like. Please if you don't know, under your TH-cam channel settings where you look at analytics you will see 'comments' there where you can report/block or hide comments from idiots. The whole world is not bad, but the internet has them all. Use TH-cam videos to learn that or I can send you screenshots how to do it. Great first time video, don't get discouraged. Have a great day. Very nice speaker choice love the rush album in the background moving pictures very great album. I personally have the pro-Ject debut carbon evo and the klipsch r-15 pm and I’m very happy with my setup. 😎

FYI, Joe Jackson's Big World album is a three sided double album, meaning one of the four sides is blank. I'm wondering if that might work for the antiskate.

If I was getting a turntable again I would try to get a new old stock recapped REVOX B975 with the tonearm drive belt replaced and a DSP based RIAA Preamp with SPDIF out to feed a switcher which would drive my soundbar and subwoofer, But that turntable looks like a very good turntable.
So the vertical tracking angle is not an issue. Just curious.

The cartridge is properly aligned to the turntable from factory and headshell dimensions get proper stylus geometry to the record.; thus, assuring great stylus tracking of the record for best sound.

I had one for a year . Loved it but the cue leaver gave out about 6 months in . It would just drop the arm with no resistance at all .

Have you considered an external Phono Preamp, Phono Stage? I'm thinking: Shiitz Mani or Moon 110LP V 2 or Rega Fono MK3?
