Well, I'm Polish and sometimes I understand some Russian words but the fact is that Polish is propably more similar to Czech or Slovak than to Russian.

Czech is kind of simular, but slovak is way more simular but all of them are simular. Although it tends to have more accent marks and usually the spelling of a Polish word to a Czech word is the opposite, example: Jahoda is Czech for strawberry and Jagoda is Polish for blueberry, do you see how Jahoda and Jagoda look and sound simular? So yeah
