  • In this video Dr. B has the great privilege to interview Chief Dave Ogden who is presently serving as Chief of Police at the Windermere, Florida police department. Chief Ogden has over 30 years experience in law enforcement, many years with the Orange County Sheriff's Department where he led in many areas.
Chief Ogden shares from a servants heart about PTSD and law enforcement officers. In this video you will learn about how the violence a police officers faces can effect them physically, emotionally, psychologically and even spiritually. You will also learn not only about PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), but you will learn about PTSI (Post Traumatic Stress INJURY).
Chief Ogden explains how to deal with a stress injury. He shares that the average law enforcement officer will witness 188 critical incidents during his or her law enforcement career. Comparing that number to the average citizen who will experience maybe a few critical incidents, most under 10 in their lifetime. Chief also talks about the recent spike in officer suicides and the vast amount of officers retiring from service.
He also shares clearly the importance of HOW to deal with PTSD and PTSI through PEER SUPPORT GROUPS. Peer support groups like CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) and CISD (Critical Incident Stress Debriefings) are vital for officers to cope with what they see and experience.
There is also a time to do what Chief referred to as a "hot wash" to talk through what each person saw and how to manage mental, emotional, and spiritual lives. He referred many officers to be like a battery depleted on your cell phone. If you do not recharge your lives mentally, emotionally and spiritually you can quickly be in trouble.
When I asked Chief what the average citizen can do to encourage our police officers and first responders, he said; "A simple thank you can go a long way." Chief has started a group called "GOT YOUR SIX" to help with officers with their mental, emotional, and spiritual lives. Please click the link below for more information.
Also, share this short video with those who are first responders and those who ❤️ first responders.
