- Ilie Cioara (1916 - 2004) was an enlightened mystic who did not belong to any lineage. He is unique in a way, in the sense that he lived in almost complete isolation, in Romania, Eastern Europe in a communist country, completely oblivious of nonduality, Zen, etc. Originally a Christian mystic, he practised a mantra for over 20 years. One day, he felt an intuitive impulse to drop the mantra, and just practice the silence of the mind, by listening to the noises on the street, in the now. After following this practice for a few years, one morning, as he was waking up from his sleep, he realised the veils had completely dropped. His description of meditation is fresh and devoid of any tradition and jargon.

I am awe struck (almost unsettled) that an individual can come to such clarity in isolation and without the baggage of tradition… amazing… and thank you for bringing this to TH-cam
It seems faith is simply awareness of deepest non doing...silence.....then all confusion dissolves by itself.
That's what I get from him.
Tradition and other people are hindrances on the spiritual path. Ilie was fortunate in this way.
'Almost unsettled' - wow.
I watched an interview where he said that he read a lot about non dualism, ego death and enlightenment. Although he then said that "I read a lot, studied a lot and couldn't get to that state so what if i just stop all that and watch my thoughts?" He then observed his thoughts without judgement for about 2-3 years and one morning "it clicked".
If it was not for TH-cam and Jayasara I would have never heard this. Just pure gratitude.

Many people are unaware of the 1700 years of hesychasm, meditation, contemplative prayer, and self-emptying that form the core of Eastern Orthodox Christianity
