I can say this is my favorite version of my favorite song by Stevie Nicks. The background piano, the lyrics, the overall dark, atmospheric and haunting tone of this demo, even how you put together the pieces of the video, it is so powerful to me. The part that begins in 03:54 until the end of the song has made me cry a lot of times, it is so powerful, and with the footage of the Tusk Tour, she dancing in the "darkness", it all seems like a dream
Love this demo of Stevie's self penned song Doing The Best I Can from the Other Side Of The Mirror. This demo has a very haunting, atmospheric feel to it. You can tell Stevie was brokenhearted when she wrote this song, a very honest demo, a lot of emotion can be heard in her voice. I believe Stevie re wrote this song to make it compatible for the album, hence why the lyrics of this demo are quite different than the studio version of the song on the album.
I agree. This version sounds like she was in a relationship and the guy kept changing his mind, perhaps to lead her on or mess with her head. The studio version lyrics sounds like it is about a dark period in her career and her addiction. Very authentic and very heartfelt song.
Lyrics: It was one for you It was three for me It was very nice It was you and me So here it is…little pieces She says sometimes it’s hard And I never like changes…so But to change your mind Then you change it all around again Just like the game she says Then you change your mind Well its just the game she says The clock is unwinding… Prepare for her departure Well she’s always leaving… priorities are ancient Well they say she’s always down with the broken hearted These are ancient..Well they say she’s always down with broken hearted. He says Oh I hear your doing fine and you’re doing the best that you can… Says I hear your fine and you’re doing the best that you can.. Made of the finest silk.. She made a final plan.. She said nothing She go up again come down again And the whispered secrets go on and on If you say anything to anyone She said sometimes its hard and I never like changes So you change your mind And you change it all around again She says just.. I could gain She says I like to go fast He says No you like to win Save me a place she says Racing with the wind She says sometimes it’s hard and I.. Never like changing Save me a place she says Race with the wind He says oh I hear you’re doing fine you’re doing the best that you can Says oh I hear you’re fine and you’re doing the best that you can…

Most of Stevie's demo's are on piano & are many times better & more haunting than the final "official' song.
the melody at 2:35 breaks me in this version... oh wow. it's so powerful.
This is my #1 favorite song by Stevie Nicks. Gold Dust Woman is second.
"Doing the Best That I Can" should have been a huge hit song.
i'm 52.....she still blows me away. rock on

Lyrics:
It was one for you
It was three for me
It was very nice
It was you and me
So here it is…little pieces
She says sometimes it’s hard
And I never like changes…so
But to change your mind
Then you change it all around again
Just like the game she says
Then you change your mind
Well its just the game she says
The clock is unwinding…
Prepare for her departure
Well she’s always leaving… priorities are ancient
Well they say she’s always down with the broken hearted
These are ancient..Well they say she’s always down with broken hearted.
He says Oh I hear your doing fine and you’re doing the best that you can…
Says I hear your fine and you’re doing the best that you can..
Made of the finest silk..
She made a final plan..
She said nothing
She go up again come down again
And the whispered secrets go on and on
If you say anything to anyone
She said sometimes its hard and I never like changes
So you change your mind
And you change it all around again
She says just.. I could gain
She says I like to go fast
He says No you like to win
Save me a place she says
Racing with the wind
She says sometimes it’s hard and I..
Never like changing
Save me a place she says
Race with the wind
He says oh I hear you’re doing fine you’re doing the best that you can
Says oh I hear you’re fine and you’re doing the best that you can…
Lindsey thanks
