- How can we use African proverbs as lifehacks? Using a number of African proverbs as examples, Mulenga Kapwepwe outlines and explores in this light- hearted but insightful talk, how the collective wisdom of African proverbs has helped her hack the complexities of life and living.
Mulenga Kapwepwe graduated from the University of Zambia with a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Mulenga has a rich background in local traditions and arts, and has worked as a cultural consultant with government agencies, international and local organisations and private sector firms. Throughout the years in this capacity, Mulenga has participated in the review and development of national cultural policies and legal frameworks, thus improving the conditions under which artists do their work. She currently serves as Chairperson of the National Arts Council of Zambia. Mulenga has written a number of award-winning plays, a book and has received numerous commendations for her contributions to the Art and Culture.

I Like this subject of proverbs
Like the BEMBA PROVERB which talks about procrastination , we can also learn from the followingTUMBUKA PROVERB which says , "MBUZI IKULYA APO BAYIMANGILILA " translated to A GOAT EATS FROM WHERE ITS TIED , many are the situations where we are in a bad situation, we mostly have the attitude of procrastinating , but remember that if a goat would wait until its untied for it to eat Its food it would stave to death, therefore always try to change the bad situation and do what you are suppose to do , like the lady just mention do not blame God for having created a tiger but thank him for not creating it with wings .

Indeed we should continue teaching our children in proverbs some of us who had village life we understand the value of proverbs thank you for your explainations.

I also grew up with many Buganda proverbs and I hope we write them down and appreciate their origin because I have seen in history where the origins of things are not appreciated. Like I still wonder why local rivers and lakes are still not named after local names even after colonialism. Like in Uganda we have lakes, national parks named after queen Victoria, Elisabeth etc and it's time to appreciate diversity by starting to appreciate your self.

One of my problem about Africa is that we Africans accept to communicate with each other in foreign languages like English, French, potugese instead of making one of our languages official .

I hear you and agree with you on that, but I am glad its in english so that I and those of us on this side of the Atlantic can understand our culture and hear about it. You have to take into account that, even though she may not be aware of it, she is also speaking to those Africans outside of Africa who aren't connected to their culture. Don't mind the english per say, just until we reconnect with our original languages.
Swahili is the official African language my people...

There where two tribes, each tribe had 10 elders. The king over both these tribes gave to each elder $1000, the first tribes elders said let us buy fishing canoes and they caught barely enough to feed there tribe. The second tribe said lets put our money together and buy a fishing trawler and caught many fish.. More then there tribe needed, so they sold there surplus to other tribes and there health and prosperity waxed great!
These trawler people will also DEPLETE fish populations , but , the boat people will ALWAYS have fish by NOT overfishing.
