Awesome information. You just don't hear this stuff by watching racing on TV. I endurance raced in America for 9 years, and only had a tire sponsorship 1 year. You can just imagine how empty my bank account was after 9 years. Thanks again for the great video!

Keep doing them, Taylor. I've been with Ryan Vickers on his journey since the early days of Superstock and it always seems bizarre that you guys put so much into a sport which so many of us love and yet, few actually get paid. It's not as if there is no money in it and yet, the sport's key personnel are hardly recognised.
I think what it is, is people really like the type of info that's behind the curtain so to speak, I think that's why the contracts video was so popular.
A friend of mine (who was twice a British champion) who also once beat John McGuiness on the roads, Eugene Laverty on the track, never got any further due to not having the £££££ behind him. A lot of racing is about having the money behind you.
Can I be a nosey bugger and ask who they were? I see it here in the states alot and it really pisses me off when the guys with deep pockets take up spaces but can't race or are slow. One notable rider ran in British championship because his dad payed for it, even though he was dead slow. It was a pity although think he dropped to stock thousand this year.
Do the suspension guys confer with the other suspension guys? most motogp run Ohlins, so there is a lot of information being passed to the technician. the teams are very secretive about how they develop their bikes so i cant imagine they'd want their ohlins guys telling a rival teams ohlins guy their riders setup. I suppose, on different manufacturers the settings arent transferable.
Hi Taylor, thanks for another great video. Could you possibly talk about personal sponsors (such as helmet and leathers companies)? Are these sorts of contracts something that a rider's manager will go out and find? What will they expect from a rider and what sort of money is involved at various levels? Cheers!
You forgot about the lorry drivers, without them the bikes wouldn’t get to the track lol. Tell Phillip and hector if they ever need another truck driver I’m their man and I’m only 30 mins away from moneymore 😉 lol. Another great video Taylor 👍🏻👍🏻 🏍💨💨💨

I love these types of vids, its great to learn the ins and outs of the paddock and the teams and how it all works, I think I must be an info junkie. Great video Taylor, nice one. Is there anyone on the team or group of teams (Yamaha and its sattelite team, say) who keep an eye on local weather around the track, especially the bigger tracks where it can rain on one part and not another?
Thanks! There will probably someone monitoring local radar reports yes I'd imagine. It seems like the whole paddock is refreshing a weather app all weekend though anyway 😂
Another great informative video, you definitely have a future in TV when you finally hang up the leathers mate - get alongside Whitham on Eurosport 👍👍 take that boring Hayden’s job ffs ! 😂😂
I agree. Just look how good Simon Crafar is nailing his commentary these days (after a deep end start) He really compliments the other two guys in the box feeding knowledgeable bits of information from pit lane and track side the other two feed off. He's also cool and calm when things go pear shaped. An example I recall was when Michele Pirro had that massive crash on the Mugello straight in 2018. He's also a qualified bike mechanic and worked as a Ohlins Race tech after he retired from racing.
Another very informative vid Taylor, I enjoyed that one - perhaps an over stretch but would have been really interested to know what sort of ball park figures we are talking about for the roles - maybe a future vid or even an idea how much it costs to run BSB, WSB or Moto GP teams?
Thanks for the idea! I don't actually know actual ball park figures and it would really vary from team to team so I wouldn't like to guess. I could probably do a video on the rough costs to run a team for the year at some point though.
Excellent video as ever, could you make a video explaining the budgets that the biggest BSB teams have down to the smaller teams. Which riders are paid and a ballpark of how much , do they also get personal sponsorship's. Keep up the great work. Another video would be the difference in budgets between BSB and superstock 1000.
Any chance of continuing these vids to cover all the back room, hospitality, team support services, and how it all weaves together to make the show work?
Interesting insight , now why do think that riders like Peter Hickman , Michael Dunlop ect dont do better at tracks because i cant my head around that they are so fast around the tt yet cant seem to transform this to bsb ect .
Yeah, I've often wondered at that, some legendary tt performers were pretty much back of the pack on the circuits. Dave Jeffries, incredible tt racer but never did much on shorts, McGuiness also, Dunlops, the list goes on, to be honest I think Hickman is one of the more successful short track riders.
It's underway, unfortunately I have to wait until the magazine articles are published until I'm allowed to post the videos of me doing it but they will happen 👍
The short answer is they look at last weekends race results 95% of the time 😂 they don't generally have rider scouts it'll just be the team managers decision, if they're picking an up and coming rider it's generally just from who ever is performing well in the class below.
Great video Taylor. What would be a rough estimate of how much it would cost a privateer BSB team for one round of the championship? Seems crazy that there is no prize money in BSB. The strength in depth is amazing in recent years and producing brilliant racing where half the grid could come away with a win. Seems like bike racing has gone the same way as football, all the money is in MotoGP/Premier League and very little filters down.
I have thought about it, the only reason I haven’t is I don’t think I’d have enough to put out consistently and I wouldn’t do it as well as I’d want to so I haven’t.
Very insightful video Taylor. Often wondered about what goes into running a race team, who does what etc. P.s if you need an "ucho" (dunno if that's how you spell it or not) then my services are available in exchange for a big bar of dairy milk chocolate, a box or 2 of beer and a pillion lap 👍
How much support do the teams in BSB get from the manufacturer? Say a bike is having a persistent mechanical issue, can you go directly to Honda/Yamaha etc for solutions?
Good question! It depends on the team, the official teams will have someone they can contact. Even if they’re in a non factory team and they have a problem they’ll still probably be able to contact someone as it wouldn’t look good on the manufacturer if the bike kept breaking.
Nice one Taylor , keep up the pressure and please contact me when the t-shirts or any goodies we could purchase come in ,I know I am half way around the world and I have no problem buying and paying for the goodies to be shipped to me in Australia. Can’t anyone race a bike without electronics now?or are the electronics the world champions. Bring back the old school 80/90s. Proper racers with skill and bottle 🤔🤗🤗
There’s no traction control, but you can still adjust the engine mapping to reduce power and the engine braking system. As there’s less it’s almost more important that you have someone that can get the best out of what you’ve got.
There's no easy answer for that! In some teams at the very top and then at others they will be paying to be there so they will be right at the very bottom!
Why do teams run two bikes and therefore split the budget in two? Obviously exposure for sponsors but if PBM ran only one bike Paul B could employ and attract a better rider/more experienced mechanics etc?
Good question, the answer most of the time is I don't know why. But in some circumstances it's for better exposure for the sponsors or because they don't want to pin all their hopes on one rider performing.
I sent the messenger pigeon to mad mark and I think he shot it and ate it or something it never returned 😂😂 I still think I could challenge for lap time within 5 secs especially based on KitKat chunk Als results lately 😂😂😂😂
