Quick question, I’ve been searching for premed programs at universities in the US and I found out that Harvard does not offer a premed program for an undergraduate degree. Is this true? And if so, what can somebody do in Harvard for an undergraduate degree that will get him ready for medical school and MCAT?

최근 의학은 무서운 속도로 발전하고 있답니다. 유전자 가위와 Single cell sequencing, Google Alpha-fold가 도입되면서 지난 백년간 밝혀진 지식보다 지난 10년간 밝혀진 지식이 더 많을 지경이랍니다. 의학은 이제 어제의 의학이 아니예요. 이젠 R이나 Python을 능숙하게 다룰 줄 알아야되요. 그러나 실험이 더 중요하답니다. 생명현상은 너무나 복잡해서 여전히 현재 알고 있는 지식으로 아무리 모델링을 잘해봐야 어림도 없어요. 학부단계에선 실험기법을 공부하거나 하는 건 아무 의미가 없어요. 학부생이 곧잘 해봐야 아마츄어일 뿐이고 진짜 프로페셔널이 되려면 대학원가서 자기 프로젝트를 해야 되요. 대신 학부때는 책을 많이 읽으세요. 학부때 쌓은 지식은 연구자로서 미지의 대양을 항해할 때 든든한 나침반이 되어 줄 겁니다. 그리고 R이나 python 프로그래밍 공부하세요. 특히 R은 필수예요!

의학과 생명과학은 임상의학, 기초의학, 분자생물학 할 것 없이 모든 분야가 아주 빠른 속도로 데이터 사이언스로 변모하고 있답니다. 현장에서 느끼는 변화의 속도는 무서울 지경입니다. R과 python 프로그래밍 뿐만 아니라 리눅스 컴퓨터도 다룰 줄 알아야 되요. 웬만한 리눅스 쉘 스크립트 언어도 스스로 짤 줄 알아야 되요. 10년전만 해도 엑셀이나 마이크로 소프트 액세스로 어떻게 버텼지만 지금은 어림도 없어요. 유전체 데이터는 너무 커서 윈도우나 애플 맥 컴퓨터로는 다룰 수 없어요. 그래서 리눅스 명령어도 자유자재로 다룰 줄 알아야 되요. 생물학이나 의학을 하려는 사람에게 이런게 요구되는 현실은 매우 낯선 것이지만 또 한편으로는 매우 흥미로운 것이기도 하답니다. 이게 낯설고 처음엔 힘들지라도 신세계를 열어줄 열쇠가 된답니다.
그리고 실험은 정말 요리와 비슷한 면이 있습니다. 레서피를 보고 따라하는 것이지만 그런데 같은 요리를 해도 요리사에 따라 맛이 천지차이인것처럼 실험도 그렇답니다. 간단한 실험은 몰라도 조금만 복잡해지면 실험은 손 많이 탑니다. 그리고 실험 잘 하려면 실험에 사용되는 모든 chemical의 작용원리를 아주 빠삭하게 꿰뚫고 있어야 되요. 그래서 실험 잘 하려면 최소 4-5년은 실험실에서 정진해야 되요. 그러나 실험은 또 굉장히 재미있고 보람있는 일이기도 합니다. 그런데 요새는 데이터 분석도 중요해서 R이나 python도 배워야 되요.
이렇게 만드신 브이로그가 님이 나이가 많이 드신 후에 보면 정말 둘도 없는 소중한 보물이 될 겁니다. 나이가 들면 제일 서러운 게 망각이라고 생각합니다. 젊었을때는 별 거 아닌 것 같아도 나중에 보면 너무나 소중했던 것들,,,,, 영화 블레이드 러너 마지막에 그 인조인간이 이런 대사를 날리죠 "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain" ........ 그러나 이런 멋진 동영상이 있으면 님이 아주 나이든 뒤에 정말 세상 무엇도 줄 수 없는 위로가 될 겁니다.

Her major is neuroscience but as far as i know you don't select a major at first you try to figure out your major for some time then you choose it
