I miss him so much. I was introduced to him in a video game called "MVP Baseball 2003".
He was one of my all-time favorite players on the Mariners. He was truly my inspiration, and he was the reason why I truly loved baseball with all my heart. Thank you Ichiro for all the memories. And we hope to see you soon in Cooperstown!

Huddah Huddah I’m pretty sure everybody got that without you having to spell it out. It was obviously the intention.
I always think of an interview Ichiro did years back. He was asked, "what do you think of guys getting mad and breaking the bat ". Ichiro said "I would never do that, I respect the maker of the bat".
That goes to show you how different we are here in America.. kinda sad if you ask me...
Even more so... He once threw his bat after a bad hit, and it hurt him so much, that he sent apology letters to the ones who made his bats. And promised from that day forward he would never do it again. After every hit from that day, he gently laid his bat to the ground.
He's a respectable guy with class.
Even when he is trying to get an infield base hit he always places the bat on the ground. Never tosses it, never flips it.

Soccer will NEVER be bigger than American football in America for a number of reasons. 1) it's boring and low scoring. 2) the "stars" look like 80's new wave singers 3) at 90 minutes, it's way to long. 4) The 'fans" are just a bunch of drunken hooligans. Baseball requires many skills and fans have to pay attention to the game to understand it, not get drunk and fight.....LOL...

As a Japanese, I’d like to thank all the MLB fans in the United States for welcoming our awesome, player, or even pride of Japan, warmly into your country’s league. We, the Japanese people were all inspired by Ichiro, who opened up the path into MLB as a Japanese person, which we all used think was impossible. As a baseball player (though my icon is ice hockey), I would like to reply with a thank you for your support in the United States.
Oh and btw, don’t mind my terrible English. I haven’t spoken English in a while, and I forgot how to speak English...

I do not hate him but he is nowhere near Pete Rose. The Japanese league has never been and never will be the equal of the MLB. If you want to could total hits add in Pete Rose's minor league career.
@Melo Bryant , he is no Rod Carew, or Rickey Henderson (1500 more walks and 900 more stolen bases), or Hank Aaron (who managed 3700+ hits with over 700 of them being homeruns). If Albert Pujols retired now I would put him ahead of Ichiro as a hitter but he will have a couple more crappy seasons to drop his stats.

Even though he will make the Hall Of Fame easily, first ballot, he is one of the most underrated players ever. Based on his accomplishments alone in The MLB he should easily be considered a top 10 player of all time. He was a great hitter with so many hitting records, and a great fielder. Very quiet man who loved the game of baseball. If he would’ve came to the MLB sooner he could possibly even be considered the ‘Goat’.
Ty. Seen a lot of "Greatest players of all time" lists that seem to just forget his crazy stats. Every now and then in a sport you'll get a complete star class athlete like that who keeps quiet, grinds it out and perfects his crafts while the cameras/media focus on other things. Don't sleep on the quiet ones! Don't get me started about Duncan.

I would say that Ichiro IS the GOAT. Based not only on his hitting, but the 10 gold gloves and all of his other accomplishments.
I wouldn't say his underrated he's just not flashy like some of the Hall of Famers and doesn't get much attention compared to others.
Just that fact that Yusei Kikuchi grew up idolizing Ichiro, makes his big league debut in his home country of Japan with his idol in right field, and saying goodbye to him as well. That’s a crazy story
The emotion kikuchi showed just really hit home to me how important ichiro is to Japan. I knew he was well liked by pretty much everyone, but when is the last time we saw a rookie cry at a retirees last game?

After Griff got him to come out of his shell in 09 he really embraced the role of "team dad" especially with the Marlins. Everyone there looked up to him.

As a kid who grew up in the Pacific Northwest playing baseball and watching this man play, Seattle will always love you Ichiro!
Same, I grew up in the PNW too and I vividly remember the time and excitement when he joined Seattle.
@@llabronco I was a little on the younger side so I know now that I truly didn't understand how special it was, which kind of bums me out. Regardless, that was always be a very special time in Seattle sports for us all!

2 yrs late, however.....I felt he showed a level of respect for our game that's lost on current players, and the Mariners sure did show him the respect back!
Ichiro is great. No question. But the club that made this honorable exit possible is also amazing. Mariners could have simply not sign with Ichiro for 2019, but they maintained his contract so that Ichiro is honored and the Japanese fans can see the greatest hero's honorable exit. We say Japan is a country of respect, but I think this event truly showed the kindness of Americans and how they show true respect. As a Japanese fan, I am so grateful not only to Ichiro but the people who made this happen. BTW I cried like a kid watching this.
I disagree the 2017 season was a disaster because of the treatment of Ichiro. The Mariners had no choice but to do this to save face.
The hug with Felix was particularly touching. The two current M's with the longest history on the team, and Felix perhaps sensing his own end before long.

I have been to Tokyo Dome. Those fans are into every single pitch and bring tremendous respect to the game. I'm so glad he was able to have his final game there.

Ichiro is like that breeze that comes up on the afternoon. You don't even realize it has just made things better for thousands or millions, you just enjoy it and him.

I got to meet Ichiro when I was 14 years old in Las Vegas for Big league weekend and he became my idol. I'm 30 now and will miss him greatly.

Growing up a military brat, I got to see Ichiro play baseball in Japan when he was with the orix blue waves and I also got to see him play against the Devil rays when he first came into the mlb as a mariner. I got to see him play in both of the leagues!

One of my favorite ever players. One of the most athletic players I've ever seen. Had a love and respect for the game I have rarely seen. One of the hardest working players I have ever seen. Also pure class, and nothing but a pleasure to watch. I feel like Japanese baseball officially took hold in the states when he joined the Mariners, and finally earned the respect it deserved among American baseball fans. Beloved by two nations. It's crazy when I think about Ichiro. I was a sophomore in high school when this unknown Japanese player took the league by storm as a 26 year old rookie. And thinking he only retired a few years ago well over the age of 40 and still with talent left in his body. This man is a legend in Japan and the USA.

I’m so glad I got to see him play. One of my fondest memories happened in Cleveland. I rode my MC from NY and Cleveland was my first stop on a bike and baseball trip. I sat next to a man from Japan who was in Cleveland on business. We talked baseball and watch Ichiro go yard. How cool. Wherever that man is, I hope his is well and remembers that game.

For some reason, I've always felt that Ichiro plays the game as it was supposed to be played when it was first invented: put the ball in play, base running, solid defense, and occasional homeruns. Now that the game has evolved into a game of homeruns and strikeouts. It's not that I don't like homeruns. But when it becomes the primary way of scoring, baseball has become a one-dimensional game.

He was my favorite player. When he came to the Yankees in 2012 I was SO happy. Just to have him play for my favorite team was amazing. Truly one of the best hitters ever.
Same though Jeter will always be my favorite. When i signed I thought i was seeing a screen from one of my old fantasy teams because I didn't think it was possible.
