"Drop acid and go to Disneyland" And that, my friends, is where his son Synyster Gates, lead guitarist of A7X, had the idea to write Unbound: The Wild Ride with the band.
This man puts together two of my favorite things. Good stand up comedy, and music, and he created Synyster Gates so, this guy is pure epicness in my books!
@Kail533 LOL. I know you were kidding or I wouldn't have answered you. Thank you for the compliment. I think I'm a very good player, but clearly not in the league as the guys you mentioned. The main difference between Syn and me is that Syn is in the business of being one of the greats. In order to do that, you must tread on new ground and be cutting edge. I am under no such constraints. I am an old school guy and I play whatever I think sounds good. If it is a bit retro, that's fine with me.
you should be extremely proud of your son not only has his music inspired other musicians, it has actually helped many of my friends through the hardest of times, you are an amazing guitarist and i know you're just as good at being a dad..keep up the great work.
This is the most coolest and hilariously talented man i have ever seen. Him and his son are like the coolest thing since i had that subway sandwich an hour ago. I love this dude. GO BRIAN HANER !!!

"Now when I see him on stage he's MY guitar hero." Ermehgawd. Brian's so sweet to his son x3 "And I watch him shred a solo for ten thousand screaming fans I think to myself...pfft. I can do that." Nevermind.
thank you papa gates i love what you have done and what you have created for your family and son...i feel lucky to have a father that supports me with what i do as well...live well and keep rocking!! hit me up if your in NOR CAL!!!
9:55. Serious shedding. No shit. They tamed the volume. I would buy a plane ticket and a hotel just to see this guy. Seen his sons band a few times. AMAZING LIVE. I see where he gets it. Janet Sr is no joke
@BlinksAlienGuitar Agreed. My point was that he was not giving advice to me. I'm old and I do what I do. I could care less if I play something that's been played before. BUT, if you are young and want to be great, then I totally agree. You have to make your own path and create something new.
This was one of the first videos I saw on youtube and it was when I was sooo heavy into my A7x phase, now I'm composing and arranging music and studying vocal performance. You're a fantastic story teller and honestly the nostalgia is hitting me at how inspired I was by this video to keep doing music.
I think this is an amazing and clever combination of music, life and comedy. I've listened to it at least 40 times and every time it makes me smile because it's so different and clever. Thanks!
You inspired me more than you can ever know. The sidewinder solo is possibly the greatest musical creation ever made, and your son is my idol, you guys are phenomenal, thank you
Also i wish my dad know how to play because that would make him really happy, so i'll start to teach him some basic chords so he can play something by the beatles, i just want to see him happy
first watched this video in freshman year and to this day, i still love it. love every single song he played in this improv. wish i could see/meet him one day
Brian, you're a fantastic guitarist. I've been playing since I was around 12 (I'm 61 now), and I wish I could play as well as you. I enjoy your work with Jeff Dunham and his friends. Keep it up. -Reggie Steele, Syracuse, New York.
Amazing. I've started teaching myself acoustic guitar. Not easy for me when I do most by ear. But I love to sing. I've gotten so much better, in such short time. You are awesome.
You and your son are amazing. I went to see Avenged in Seattle. It would be awesome to see you at a show and possibly actually talk to you. You are an amazing guitarist with years of experience and it would be nice to possibly learn something from you someday. I don't play guitar myself but my friends do and they'd be honored to meet you or see you live.
@BrianHanerPapaGates Just saw you in Detroit with Jeff Dunham. You were awesome - even my musically illiterate mother enjoyed your performance. Thanks to you and Jeff for a great night!!
I saw you years ago with Jeff Dunham at the Ohio State Fair. You brought up your son there too & it blew my mind because i had no idea & then you started shredding behind your head like you did here and i was absolutely speechless. Thank you for doing what you do
I saw you here in Pullman WA last year, and had only seen you do the bit with Achmed/Jeff Dunham. You were hilarious and you are an amazing guitar player!!!
"My son and his high school friends started a 'little band called Avenged Sevenfold."
Now that's the band which keeps me going.
"Drop acid and go to Disneyland"
And that, my friends, is where his son Synyster Gates, lead guitarist of A7X, had the idea to write Unbound: The Wild Ride with the band.
You forgot to mention that the demo title was "Disneyland Acid Trip"
Dear guitar guy,
Thank you.
Signed, all A7X fans
hey
Syn and his dad are the coolest people ever

That's what I like about you, you are old school. By the way Disneyland was a blast on acid🤪
You and your son are phenomenal guitar players. I can hear your influence when he plays.
Tho as far as I'm concerned you did play the acoustic Sidewinder solo in the end tho and that is one of my absolute favourite solos.
you should be extremely proud of your son not only has his music inspired other musicians, it has actually helped many of my friends through the hardest of times, you are an amazing guitarist and i know you're just as good at being a dad..keep up the great work.
Ahh so I guess it's safe to say that we can see where Syn's shred talent came from.
Yeah, fucking Van Halen of all people.
Dao Yang perfect
Though he has a very talented father, he is ironically classically trained on guitar
And me watching the Jeff Dunham Christmas songs and he’s the guitar guy lmfao that took to long
This is the most coolest and hilariously talented man i have ever seen. Him and his son are like the coolest thing since i had that subway sandwich an hour ago. I love this dude.

That solo gave me so many chills.. Amazing
