    The book provides clear illustrations th-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

    Great video! Takes me back to when I was young and cutting/selling firewood. Extremely hard work but I loved. Of course back then I didn’t have power splitter just ax and steel wedges. I can still smell the wood. I was in best physical shape of my life then. Thanks for taking me back.

      That was an amazing white oak. Looked pretty perfect on the inside.
      Im always curious to see how much wood is in a log. By the looks of it. If the base diameter was 27”. There was little tapper. And appeared to be at least 20’ of clear straight grain. Using the volume formula for a cylinder. V=pi r squared times height
      If radius is 12” and the height is 240”
      There was 108,573.44 cubic inches . Or roughly half a cord. Of course that’s solid so add .20% once split and you get .60 of a cord. And round up to say 2 face cords. At most you get $300 for that amount of fire wood. However if you took 108,573cubic inches and divided by 144 you’d have 753 board feet of lumber. At $4 per board foot. That comes out to $3,000. Just something to think about. That’s on the low end. Could be even higher. I realize it’s location would have made it challenging to get it out. I Just hate seeing amazing wood get turned into fire wood. $3000 could have bought you a 90cc saw and an Alaskan saw mill with money left over. And yes your videographer was very good.

    I will be doing that by the end of this month. I try not to get trees that big though, I use a 16" saw and anything too big I split with a splitting wedge so I can lift it into the trailer, take it home and split it and stack it, just enough to get me through next winter, about 6 cords, work by myself and rest whenever I feel like it, after all I am 74 years old now, so I rest when I want, Where I am cutting it is mostly cherry wood, and makes a real pretty wood pile. LOL

    • @falllineridge
      @falllineridge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Six cords is nuts. That would probably last us 3 years or more here. I think that's a wise plan on the tree size, if this one had not blown over I wouldn't have touched it.

    • @bb1040
      @bb1040 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@falllineridge I cut about 6 cords last summer and still have just over a cord left to get me started this year. I heat only with my wood burning insert in my fireplace, it has a blower in it and a couple strategically-located fans and it heats the whole house. I live alone so don't have to please anybody but mysef. LOL Keep the house at about 70 to 75 degrees and the neighbors most of the time can't even see any smoke coming out of the chimney. Start cutting now and don't start burning until October . so it is dried out enough to burn clean. I live in NW Pennsylvania, so once I start burning, I keep it going until April. Gas furnace died a few years ago and just don't have the funds to get a new one. I like wood heat any ways. and my insert has a big glass window so I can see the fire.

    We used to do that when I was a kid with a slight difference. We had a wood heat stove, the ol timey cast iron wood stove to heat the house kind, so, of course, needed firewood. Just me, my sister, and Dad would go deep into the woods and he'd cut down trees and cut logs with a chainsaw, and my sister and I would pick them up and load them into the back of the truck. It was cold as all get out too as well. Once we got home, Dad would split the logs with an axe. Old school.

    That’s why I always take several saws with me when I am cutting. I never sharpen a saw in the field and I never take a saw with me that is not in top topcoat ndition.I have 12 saws with over half of them big pro saws. My choice is more dependent on their bar length than anything else. I usually carry two 24 inch saws,two 20 inch saws and one 16-18 inch saw for brush clearing and small limb cutting chores. The other four are for cutting and bucking.

There is about 10 ft. of it I can not really wrestle with. Would love a tilting splitter as I need to get my son to help to wrestle the chunks up on the spltter to process. Thanks for the footage 🦶, and keep up the great work! 👍 Do you usually not lift the front of the bar when you're tightening the chain, or was that just part of the video missing it?

    I see you splitting that wood and can only think of the many beautiful bowls that I could turn from that. Enjoy your channel though. It is a nice change from the wood turning channels I usually watch.

    Laughing about the start of your video.... and I am a very avid follower of yours!! You spent good time sharpening you saw, showed the replacement of the bar and chain and then you put the chain holding plate back on. All of that near text book like it is supposed to be done. Then you go to put the nuts on the plate.
    If you dont clean everything near perfect.... dirt and dust like you left under the nuts that hold the plate on is what makes your chain loosen up and that causes a whole plethora of problems! Lmao! Just ragging you a bit. I really enjoy watching your vids
