I really do love that one too! I kept out the smaller version so I could use it more!

I’m very into fortune-telling decks these days, hence this video is so exciting for me!
Sibilla has been such a good system for me to learn, and I’m a little obsessed with it! Very chatty, cheeky, but so powerfully accurate!
I love how the Parlour Sibyl (very high on my Wishlist now) & Lo Scarabeo’s Sibilla Indovina (possibly redrawn / readjusted) have the art by JJ Granville and originally date around 1830, I think, which possibly makes the Parlour Sibyl aka La Sibylle des Salons the first Sibilla deck.
I find Vera (True) Sibilla / Everyday Oracle so very beautiful!
Just like you, Kelly, I don’t find Sibilla negative at all! I find it real.

You know I was thinking it had to have been around 1830 but wasn't sure if that is where people thought it might have started!

@@TheTruthinStory yes, I need to look a little more into the facts, but it’d be kinda cool if the Parlour Sibyl predated the Vera Sibilla, despite of them being different.

@@TheTruthinStory I looked into the Sybil of the Salons on the National Library of France website & it says it was published between 1890-1900, but it may not be the first publication though, I think.
JJ Granville passed in 1847 so the cards originally been done around 1830 sounds more likely, right, Kelly? I so love geeking out on card history!

I am digging right now, I found a version of the deck I have from the 70s that looks different but I found a phrase that it “is a reprint of a 19th century deck designed by Mansion” which led me to www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=98741 If you read all the way down it looks like 1828 for the 53 card deck, 1827 for a 32 card version.

    • @TheTruthinStory
      @TheTruthinStory  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

AND I found “The first known Sibilla Cards were created in 1827. Published by the French publishing firm, B.P. Grimaud, they were called “La Sibylle des Salons” or literally, ‘The Sibyl of the Salons.’ The first Sibilla cards were designed by renowned French illustrator, J.J. Grandville, who was commissioned by Grimaud to create the deck.” which leads me to believe that you are right that this Parlour Sibyl is a reprint of the first Sibilla deck!

Thank you for sharing! I recently started dipping my toe in the cartomancy/fortune telling world with standard playing cards. I gotta say, I’m hooked. But I’m trying to restrain myself from going full obsessive so I don’t burn out. After reading with Tarot 10+ years, I think I would recommend new readers to start with a different cartomancy system (playing cards, Lenormand, etc.) and the move on to Tarot. It trains a sort of flexibility and quickness of mind that can easily get lost in all the many layers of Tarot. Really interesting stuff!

Out of curiosity, how did you learn to read the Sibilla? Thanks to Mascha I had no choice but to buy Il Meneghello's version and it's so beautiful but I can't read it. The only book I found is one by Mirko Negri in Italian and that book isn't exactly the masterpiece reviews had me convinced. :D

Hi Matt! Awww, I’m so thrilled to hear you now have the beautiful ll Meneghello version of Sibilla! I have a video on Sources & Resources for Sibilla that I have found useful that started me on my Sibilla obsession.

@@musingsbymascha I saw that video of yours too! :-) But I have to say that you are a financial danger to others with your deck choices. They're just too tempting. :P I am still trying to convince myself that I don't need the Kartogram Robledo Besancon and I can't get it out of my head since I saw your and Mendy's reviews of it. Ты злая, Маша! :P

Ooo I need to watch that video. Matt I found sources that I could on the net, did some translating of the pamphlets but mostly for me these styles of cartomancy are pretty easy to work with having a few good keywords and the names/images so I gather what I can and roll 🤣

The della zingara cards don't have numbers on them, what you trimmed is the black frame that also had the meaning of The cards in other languages.
There is also another version of kipper by ciro Marchanti that has s few extra cards to the original kipper he also created the gilded lenormand which has a few extra cards that are very beautiful.

Thanks for pointing out the non-negativity of the decks like Sibilla. They get a bad rap. To have a balanced deck you need joy and sorrow, birth and death, and so forth.
