Don't count on it. The Navy has cancelled its LCS program and all current Freedom class LCS ships are being scrapped in 2023. The MSP and the 5 others undergoing construction will be the only ships of the class remaining, until they are replaced by the new Constellation class frigates. The LCS was to have been a unique design with modular mission capabilities from ASW to Strike, but have suffered numerous mechanical issues and non-completion of modules, creating a cost overrun of immense proportions.

Yeah, the older freedom class ships are sadly being retired, they were too late in their construction or already in service to try and fix their design flaws without spending more than the ships were worth. This ship and five others were early enough along in construction that they were able (supposedly) to fix the known issues, and the Navy’s spend the last two years fixing, testing and pushing this ship to her limits before deciding to accept her. Unless new problems show up, or the fixes fail she’s good for awhile.

In a roundabout way its sort of a slap in the face to the cities of MSP to have an LCS named after them. The "little crappy ships" as they've become known have been nothing but a disappointment for the Navy, and they've begun decommissioning the LCS ships, even though some are not even 2 years old. I wonder how long LCS 21 (Minneapolis-St Paul) will remain on active-duty before IT becomes the victim of the Navy budget axe. Eventually all LCS ships will be replaced by the proposed Constellation class frigates. There are currently 9 Freedom class LCS in the US Navy. All of them will be decommissioned in 2023. The LCS MSP will be the only ship remaining of its class, while 5 more LCS are being built.

Yes a beautiful ship but unfortunately there is a design fault and they are cracking in half many are being decommissioned already and their service life isn't very long maybe another couple years sad to see all those tax dollars wasted especially because another one in this class is named after my hometown

Wrong LCS class, the freedom class are the catamaran hulls that are cracking. This class has the bad gear issue that both classes have. Not sure if this one has the upgraded gear or not. If it is upgraded it should be fine. Only those with the original gear design are being scrapped.

@@jonathanellsworth21 I have & I have also read the secnav instructions for the class of ships. since they have so many problems/flaws they are now limited to only 15 knots in low class sea states due to the problems & issues. and that is part of the reasons they are getting rid of the whole class of ship by the end of the year. I have posted the links from the USNI news on it. Maybe she can become a museam ship for you guys up there, if you move fast enough

@@scp-049lover8 Not according to the SecNav, the CNO & others in her chain of command. They ALL have been ordered not to exceed 15 knots and to travel not no more than sea state 4 [basically calm seas] for the fear of them breaking in half due to the faulty design. I know what the spec say she is supposed to do, but the reality they all are a pile of junk. And we all got to pay for that crappy bill of goods. What looks great on paper usually does not work well in reality.

It's always sad to see a ship on its way to be decommissioned. I understand this fleet was a fail from the start. That's shameful too. I've read the histories of historical ships that ended up being tossed for scrap even when they've had glorious histories & had been recommissioned over time to serve other purposes. I'm sure the sailors who had to deal with this fleet & it's failures are glad to see it go, so they'll have better ones replacing them though - hopefully. God only knows under this administration. THIS warship was quite something to see.
