Never heard of this kernel before but i flashed it after watching this video this morning and dam! Its been great!!! Thanks
Wow, dude you are on it.. Amazing stuff brother thank you for taking the time to make this video and explaining... Thank You!!!
excellent review as always Mike!! Keep it up! Love your videos!
Thanks Mike! You've helped me turn my Nexus 6 into a Beast of a phone. I'm running this same set up with a few changes in settings thanks to your advice...very informative! Keep the vids coming Bro!
Fucking love you Mike. I'm using optipop with pastel layers, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks so much dude for recommending pastelz as a layer, it's simply perfect
Great video. In depth. 👍 thanks.
Looking forward to the swipe navigation video.
After watching this and just noticing how kick ass the devs are about interaction with the users. I had to jump on board. I'm blown away how fast & fluid this is. You can tell they take pride in their work. This with hells b3 is a match made for each other. Not sure what they did but this is the first ROM that the Google search app feels like it should. Even stock it felt glitchy with an odd sound bug.
Very nice review. Did not know so much was possible with a nexus 6, now I want one. lol
Great review Mike, and this ROM has been my daily driver now for several days, with the Hell kernel, and IMO this is hands down the best ROM + Kernel combo on the Nexus 6. Super smooth fast, and excellent battery life. I am getting 6h Screen On time, and even Chroma wasn't giving me that, plus this feels smoother than Chroma, and less bugs. No offense against Chroma it is another great ROM, but I feel AOSiP is a notch better
Another great review. AOSip is a Top ROM. I used it for about week, but always found myself wishing there were added options and customization. That's just me.
Goon3r Swag™ Can always head over to AOSiP G+ or XDA and offer your suggestions. I like it's simplicity. Plenty of ROM's out there with every feature in the book if you want though!
Awesome ROM stable cool ;)
Nice review bro 👍
Thanks a lot Mike! I haven't had a smart phone battery last me this long ever. Interface is still smooth and is the perfect combo between performance and battery. I can see why this is your daily driver.
what SOT are you getting with this?
+George Lewis around 5.5ish brightness around 25% with Bluetooth paired with my Android wear
Wow... My 6p on stock gets 3.5 hours with light use :(
+George Lewis hey atleast you got the newer one! haha
+Hayden Barnett did you see battery improvements when you changed from stock to a custom rom?
I subbed bro. Cool videos
Nice review
Mike.. You have become by far the best rom overview TH-camr since DroidModderX I'm 2010. Unfortunately his channel has become more about promoting free garbage sent to him and less about rooting/rom overviews.
I'm on T-Mobile and the most important features to me are 1) untracked tethering 2) battery life.
I have watched about 10 of your most recent Nexus 6 reviews and you make them all sound great haha. But which one would give me the features I require? Thanks a lot buddy and keep pumping these videos out!
Mike Barrett how to get cpu voltage to 0 again, cause every time i open it shows 0, but we have changed settings right?if i delete profile.. will every thing go stock?
Basically you just manually revert +25 if you previously went -25. The Adiutor doesn't show (retain) the previous voltage setting used. You'll need to write it down or have a good memory.
Srv Godara the always "0" setting confused me too at first so naturally I pushed 1,000 buttons. I clicked off "apply on boot" then rebooted. than went back in and set to -25 and "reapplied on boot" no FC's so I think it worked
Mike that was an awesome review. Been on euphoria since the beginning now I'm really considering aosip. Never really messed with kernel stuff before but your explanation, easy and simple. Like you, I look for a balance of performance and battery. Also, I like ROMs that offers rich stable features and tweaks. Never knew any thing compared to my current daily driver.
Looking forward to flashing this. Is it still your daily?
Yes. The latest (RC8) has added a lot of new & very useful features. 9.0 should be out very soon & I'll be releasing an updated video.
Awesome. I just tried flashing the ROM and experienced many bugs. Home button not working, notification pulled down once then stopped.... Many others. But I'm excited to try a newer release candidate. I'm subbed to your channel so I look forward to the next review.
I will reflash again later when I do some debugging.
Make sure you use the recommended Gapps package. Found on the AOSiP G+ community page.
I just install the lates version of that room and install the same kernel that you have and made the same setup just top get the best battry life i hope it work for me thanks great video
I just installed this app and layers aren't working after I install and reboot. Using the same layer as you. Any ideas?
Mike Barrett how do you get the swipe navigation to star working again.
Nice vídeo. I just flashed this ROM in muy nexus 6 bit why latest build dont use layers? In this build uses cyanogen themes and i pref layers
Hey Mike. How did you get the Pastelz layers theme to work? I've tried both the free and paid versions and nothing changes. It seems only a handful of themes work on this rom.
Great video, thank you. I noticed your awesome Nexus splash screen for TWRP, could you please provide a link for that? Thanks for your time.
Hey Mike I'm really a huge huge fan of your videos, your style of reviewing and what not is definitely something I can get into, keep it up. I know this is gonna sound really random but do you still have a copy of the last build of the aosip rom with the cyanogenmod theme engine? If you could somehow let me get a copy of that it would be phenomenal. I had to get a new phone, old one got stolen and that was my favorite rom. Hope to hear back from you but in the mean time keep up the good work.
Bro my nexus 4 soft keys are not working after 5.1.1 update.... Does this ROM fix the problem???
is there ota update or is pushbullet i tried to do the layers and got a system ui failure
I just rooted my nexus and installed this rom, everything is running great but i noticed notifications aren't making sounds :( or vibrate. the sound and notification settings are turned on tho
Mike could you make a tutorial on how you change roms so often but are able to keep most of your phone the same. I know it's using titanium backup etc, but it would really help.
Mobile data not working, fine on the WiFi but not LTE data or anything and ideas on what it may be or is there a setting not enabled that I don't know about?
Awesome explanation. Question: i am finding it hard to decipher which version of hell-core kernel i should be downloading. I want to use this on my nexus 6 in the same manor as yourself. Would you happen to have an updated link to the best and most up to date version?
Hi! Great video, however my phone wouldn't let me change the maximum frequency, any tips?
What is the closest rom to this for the OnePlus One? (AOSP based rom with lots of customization and great battery life) ?
I'm currently using custom ROM Cyanogenmod 12.1 on my Nexus 5 5.1.1 and I was so wondering, do I have to wipe to factory reset then root my phone again and then install this custom ROM or there's a quicker and easier way? Thanks!
Wipe & flash ROM + SuperSU.
what splash are you using at the beginning of the video?
Can you cover audio equalizer ( viper audio or max audio)setting for playing music ( if it include in the rom or what it can support)
Thanks
Another great video! Thanks for doing these videos. You mentioned something about posting your kernel settings in this video. Is there somewhere I can find them? If not, I can just go through the video for settings. Thanks again.
David Metzger I was going to make a google docs. I got side tracked with other projects. I can throw one together if you still need the settings from the video.
Hello mike, I am not that expert installing rom to my phone. I want to install this rom to my phone. Is there any simplified tutorial to install this rom? Thanks in advanced
Mike Barrett I see a specific kernel manager for Hells core in the Play Store. Is there a specific reason why you use a different kernel manager?
**On a side note I'd like to say I enjoy your videos. They are very informative. Keep up the good work!
***** it is an older app for the N4/5 & not compatible with the Nexus 6.
How does he go lower than 300? I can't even see that low
Great video, would love to use this rom but totally unstable on my N6. Darn!
Please share your splash image for twrp..
Ik right I'd love to have it too !!
Srv Godara Zayn Ashraff I'll be releasing my custom splashes soon.
Mike Barrett You're own custom splash OMFG can't wait !!!! no doubt it's gonna be awesome.
Do you recommend this settup for the best battery life ? If not then what ?
Mike,
How did you get the boot animation?
how do I get those navbar icons on nexus 5
good vid
What settings are you using for the kernel?
Mike Barrett Is necessary the full version of that layer to disable the rounded corners in the settings?
Dani Bartowski they are hard coded. It's a ROM feature. They are not getting rid of it. However, future layers will have an option to disable it I believe.
Ok, thank you. I've seen you have disabled them...How?
Dani Bartowski Older version didn't have it yet. Video shown is RC4. RC5 introduced the rounded corners.
I followed your kernel guide and after using undervolting, I started getting weird graphical glitches and slowdown. The screen would tear in half. Can I undervolt to a lesser degree without harming my phone? Is the battery life payoff significant from undervolting?
You can undervolt in intervals of 5 with Adiutor. The payoff can be very noticeable, but it depends on how low your device will allow you to push the limits before you start getting FC's & other issues.
Does it have a theme manager ?
Mike, I love your videos as always, your channel is pretty much the reason i switched from the Z3 to a Nexus 6!
I am currently running the latest Chroma rom with the included Franco Kernel and VomerTweaks. Battery life is important to me, so i was pretty excited to see how you pulled off 6 SOT, but i do see there are a few things missing in AOSiP thats not in Chroma.
Do you still think its worth it to switch to AOSiP even with a few things missing, or should i just stick with what i have? Also I used FK Updater to try to mimic the kernel settings you are using with your current rom, so i will see if it helps me out.
timesplitter88 Yeah I would like to hear Mike's opinion on Chroma vs. AOSiP.
If you like the features on Chroma then try flashing hells core Kernel to see if it makes a difference in battery life. I enjoyed Chroma before 5.0.2 hit. I don't think I'll be changing my daily driver from AOSiP for quite some time.
I have pretty great battery life with Chroma. (Nexus 5) Only thing that pulls me towards AOSiP is the Gesture anywhere and the menu clarity. :)
Riku K. Give it a try for sure. I think you'll be impressed. It's a great ROM!
Mike Barrett Tried it. Did not like it too much over Chroma, Gestures were great tho. Reboot menu is super ugly :P
Mike sorry to bother you. I just installed aosip rom on My nexus 6 .. I Love pastelz layers.. But i cant install it... I flashed aosip R8 the newest version . what can do.? I have layers mánager and nothing... Thanks
AOSiP no longer uses layers on the new builds. They use CMTE now. You can grab pastelz theme and apply with CMTE.
Thanks a lot ... U are ThE man!!!
Hey Mike, thank you for your great videos. ☺
The settings for Hells Kernel can be used to other Roms too? I'm on Euphoria 1.1 (latest build).
Vasilis Dedousis Yes.
Hey Mike, how did you get Layers installed on this rom? I tried with layers manager but it never worked.
Same here. Layers aren't working.
Hey Mike (hope you see this - for some reason I can't tag you)! Do things need to settle in for a few cycles to work? I flashed the latest HellsCore kernel, applied the changes from your video, but SOT has not changed changed yet. Also, since applying the settings, my Nexus drops a few frames here and there - where do I have to tweak to get rid of that?
Thank you for your quality content!! I was really missing this for the Nexus 6.
I installed the ROM but every time I reboot my phone it says keeps upgrading all gapps and never stops and continues to reboot with the same procedure so my phone never ends up loading. Have no idea what this could be
Which Kernel?
Boot loop.. :-/
Anonymous Anonymous Full wipe + clean flash?
Its OK I ended up installing AICP rom instead .. Not sure what happened before
Just wondering, have you had any troubles connecting to LTE after flashing this? I'm no longer able to connect at all and I'm pretty sure the issue began after flashing this ROM. I've checked the APN settings and don't think the issue is stemming from that, but I can't think of what else it would be.
No issues with LTE. I use AT&T.
Mike Barrett for those having LTE issues on Tmo, the fix I found is to ensure APN protocol is set to ipv4 only...hope this helps
Timmedic1 that did the trick, thanks a ton!
Great video again Mike! I instantly started loading the newest version of AOSiP & Hells DCore but do not have all the choices you have in the Kernel Adiutor app. Are running version 2 or 3 of the kernel?
rsohne1255 Duh, I didn't flash the kernel last.
rsohne1255 Hells Core Kernel B3. They'll be releasing B4 pretty soon.
where are the gapps
Is this ROM has the option of Spanish?
Thank you for still covering the Nexus 6 for some reason this phone does not get much love.HOW DID YOU GET TWRP to look like that.
Dovakeen79 He has another video on his channel explaining this I believe..
Dovakeen79 jackr88 Yep, th-cam.com/video/AFRHirvBQrs/w-d-xo.html
Splash screen is my own though. I'll be releasing it once I finish my pack.
question, if I have already flashed a custom kernel, do I need to do a wipe before flashing a new kernel? or do I just flash it over the top? Thanks!
+George Lewis Were you able to get this quesition answereD?
Yeah, I just flashed the kernel over the old one. But a clean flash is preferable
Ok thnx
Hey mike. I've got a one plus one with cm12.1,AK kernel and I was wondering if you could recommend me a good ROM there's so many out there. Which would suit best for performance and smoothness ??
I'm looking at euphoria Bliss pop or ressurection remix
Zayn Ashraff Out of those three, I would probably choose Euphoria _personally_.
Mike Barrett Do you recommend installing Hells Core b3, b4 or b4_zen?
B5 Zen
Mike Barrett thanks, I'm a huge fan of your videos, keep up the good work, greetings from Mexico.
Hey mike. Love your videos.
just wondering if i flash this rom together with the kernel do i need to install gapps?
Yes. Flash ROM, Gapps, SuperSU, & Kernel all at same time in that order.
Mike Barrett Thanks. I followed your steps and loving my 'new' nexus 6 (:
can this rom be used in xiaomi 3 device? im currently using ivan's lollipop rom..
I don't believe that device is supported currently, sorry.
Will the HTC camera port work with this AOSIP ROM?
Matthew Leal Yes. I recorded all the footage using the port with AOSiP.
Great video my friend. I have just rooted and flashed this rom and I a waiting for it to boot. (first boot takes forever) however the only thing I could not get to from you video was the link to hells core does not work ad I can not find it by xda or google either. I really want this kernel do you have another link for it?
hc-kernel.blogspot.de/?m=1
Thank you. I do not see b3 however I do see b19 is there a difference?
can do a review on resurrection remix?
What theme are you using for TWRP? Looks great and I'd like to install it.
TWRP Materialised. Video how to in my channel. The splash screen is my own custom image. I will be releasing my splash pack soon.
only thing is that hells kernel makes my screen do the weird half screen glitch, but other than that im getting crazy insane battery life, maybe if i try a different kernel with the same settings.
Screen glitch? No issues here... You must be referring to the DPI bug? Have you changed your DPI?
no, i know some people have it you must be a lucky one who doesnt. half the screen glitches no changed dpi or anything lol.
Very well put together vid, but I don't know why some of your hand movements bug me, lol. I've noticed the HC-K D doesn't have a md5 or sha1 for it, and I can't find one. Could you please let me know if this is correct
hC-b3.zip
MD5: 705439303E4C496FA83BE0D2B801F6CA
SHA1: 46FAFF9E2CBF4BE062E7D59DE81C8857A2A90546
I tend to express through hand motions a lot when I am heavily caffeinated. But it's more likely the 60fps that bothers you.
this ROM looked amazing in the video but got it on my nexus 5 and it didn't have a lot of settings and i couldn't pull down the notifications. other than that, it was EXTREMELY fast, my phone has faster been faster. There were also many more bugs that I've noticed but i went back to using cataclysm with the backup i had.
Neil Fisher Install Slim Gapps package with this ROM. Will solve your problem.
OK thanks I'll try it when I can :)
I already switched back to my other rom
How's the camera quality on this compared to stock android?
It is no different. ROM's do not alter camera software or post processing.
Mike Barrett thanks for your response. i guess it's different with the nexus 6. I had the LG G3 and camera quality with AOSP and CM is poor compared to the stock os. Again, thank you. i'll test this AOSIP rom.
Which TWRP version have you installed?
Dani Bartowski its the material theme, you apply it in settings after you download it
where do i find GAPPS for this rom?
I just used the AROMA GAPPS link he has in the description for his video on AICP. Everything is working fine so far.
Bank Dynamic Gapps or Aroma LP Gapps. Google search will direct you to the proper links.
Where did you get Hells kernel?
G+. Links are in the video description.
Does the ROM factor into battery life much or is it mainly or completely up to the kernel?
Christian nazario Mostly up to the Kernel, however, poorly optimized ROM's can also affect battery performance.
Mike Barrett Thanks, I will be flashing the Kernel on Stock and testing it, if I don't get as good of battery as you or atleast more than usual then I'll flash the ROM.
hey mike! nice video, do you think your battery life is from the rom or kernal? and whats your opinion of franco kernel to hellscore?
Battery is mostly controlled by Kernel. I prefer Hells Core over Franco personally.
What version of twrp are you using? That theme looks amazing
Terron Franklin forum.xda-developers.com/android/themes/theme-twrp-materialised-dark-light-play-t2915584
Should I us b2 or b3 for kernel?
B3. B4 should be out soon.
So what should I flash for the time being? I downloaded b2
Delete B2. Download & flash B3.
Woah, you are lucky. You must have a pretty highly binned CPU. I cannot get anything below 1055mV on my processor without getting instability.
StompySan Device? Kernel?
Nexus 6, and almost every kernel I have tried. The phone's SOC actually goes through a binning process, and the device gets a certain grade depending on its bin. If you go to /sys/module/clock_krait_8974/paramters/table_name and open it in as a text document, it will show you your bin. It ranges anywhere from 0 to 15. I binned at 8, so I knew that on stock mine ran at 1070mV. Of course, it is actually stable at lower voltages, but it was probably binned that high just to be safe. There is a really interesting thread about this on the Nexus 6 subreddit (bleh, but I couldn't find a thread on XDA) that discusses this, and the stock table is on pastebin (pastebin.com/ZyGA9Tec).
StompySan Ya, I saw the threads a while back. I have a 13. Bought from Motorola direct.
Which gapps do I use?
Slim Zero/Mini GApps package is best dor AOSiP.
Mike Barrett Thanks. One more question. To update the ROM, do I just flash the newer version zip over it?
itaintmebabe714 yes, that is a dirty flash. It is recommended to clean flash if you experience any issues otherwise.
How do I decrypt it?
This works on my nexus 4?
Jerome Rioga yes, available for almost all Nexus devices.
This or PureNexus? What do you think, Mike?
Pure Nexus, AOSiP is kind of bloated now.
Say no more.... if it's got your endorsement, I'm flashing it. Done!
Same, thanks MIKE for another as always amazing rom! Im so convinced from this review gonna flash ina few. Switching from AICP. thanks again!
Meh, Just looks like all the rest of the roms, best rom out there just now is Cyanide
Very nice video bro!
