Hi Jay, I'm going to pick up a 2008 4.2l tomorrow and install it A.S.A.P. . I'm aware that it's going to suck but being retired cost is a factor so I wanted to let you know that I appreciate your video series on the TrailBlazer 4.2 . Best of Luck
just getting ready to do this.cant i leave the starter on, and install it before i put the motor back in.thanks so much for doing these 4 videos.they are going to help allot.
Hey thanks for watching and leaving a comment , when the intake is off it easy to take out the starter , you will do the converter bolts through there as well. Good luck with your swap.
How’s going jay I just did a swapped on a 2007 trailblazer 4.2 got everything together no start just cranking no spark no fuel I watched your videos about like 100 times to see what I did wrong but I’m pretty sure I got everything connected
It is hard to diagnose without seeing the vehicle however you can check all the ignition fuses and then the grounds , all of them on the side of the block(driver side). Check the cam and crank sensors (front passenger side)and their connecters as well. Ignition relays under the hood.
i am doing this my self now. i did an engine swap maybe 4 years ago on another trailblazer and the hardest part for me the first time was getting the three exhaust flange nuts loose, but i didnt have any impact tools at the time. now i am stuck on getting the transmission and engine to line up. i have removed the engine rubber mounts so i can better lower the engine but i am still stuck, the transmission seems to be as high as i can raise it and the engine as far as i can lower it but they are still not lining up. seems like last time i had to tilt the back of the engine down and lower the transmission, then tilt the front of the trans up, then i could finally line things up, install the bolts, then raise the tail end of the transmission up and it brought the whole thing up as one assembly. its hard to do on jack stands and a creeper, while using engine lift. everything gets in the way that is holding everything up
The exhaust bolts were really tight , I wrecked a 30 inch extension getting one loose. The engine and trans lining up was best done underneath and having someone there moving the engine around up top will really help as well. I removed the mounts as well. I'm sure you will get it.
on the passenger side of the motor i have a plug past the oil pressure sensor by chance do you know what it goes to i can not for the life of me find where it goes
Thank you for great videos. I have a question. I need to do an engine swap on a 2008 Envoy 4.2. What year engine will work. I find a lot of 2004-06 but no 2008.
Hey Danny , thanks for the comment! You will need a 2007-2009 engine. The earlier ones have a different reluctor wheel on the crank among other changes. Good luck on the swap!
You should have replaced the 2 longer trans cooler line sections, not just the front short sections. Especially when you had most of the trans exposed and the engine pulled. They corrode from salt spray and start leaking ATF. The hardest part is the blind sections at the trans.
I watched all 4 of these. This dude is a hell of a mechanic. If my back wasn’t jacked I would definitely try it

fascinating! thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
So, bottom line what would you consider this job would cost a person?
Around here it's about 2200.00 , could be cheaper in your area.

@@jaysgarage3616 Thanks for your response and letting me know which engine will work. Great information!!
As you were installing the engine, in the back of your mind, did you worry that the engine would work after all that work?
Always , there are always things that can be wrong or go wrong.

Good catch , thanks for the comment!
I got the trans cooler lines replaced when they put in a Reman Trans. haha. 275K so far on the engine.
What about the motor mounts did u change them for rhe 5.3 or are they rhe same? Im about to do a 08
I replaced the 4.2 with a 4.2
wish I know how long the total job took start to finish
I worked on it when I had time , with A/C recharge and drilling out broken exhaust studs and being the first one I did 26 hours ish
Did you make a part 3?
Yes , there is a part #3 , thanks for watching.
How long did it take you to do this? I'm planning on swapping mines out with some help
I think for the first time person probably around 24 hours.
It's a Condenser Not a ft Rad. You are funny
You are right!
