    Dad had one. Got to drive it often. Great date car for a 16 year old!

    My parent's owned an identical 73 Newport. Same color and interior. That combo was a special edition for that year. The color was Coppertone.

    The 73 Newport is a "Spring Special" edition. They all came in that color combo. Copper and white top. Navajo fabric and white vinyl trim and door cards. Road wheels not hubcaps. My parents bought one identical to it in May of 73. Unfortunately ours was used daily and rusted out severely by 1979.

      hutchcraftcp wow, I never would have known, and who think copper would be a spring color, you think light yellow and light green. My mother bought a brand new Cordoba in 1975, big car with small Duster parts, small 904 tranny and 9" rear brakes, beautiful car, but it needed a 440 with a 727 transmission and a 8 3/4" sure grip

      I have always been a fan of those beautiful custom ROAD wheels... they are beautiful !!!!!.

      a lot of cars in that era rotted away quickly, the full size Fords in particular disappeared from the roads in no time considering they were everywhere for a while.I always heard it was because of a large commitment by the industry in general to use large amounts of re-cycled steel that wasn't purified properly.

    why oh why is it that all these wonderful auto experts, people who know what to look for in these beautiful examples of days gone by, why is it that they cannot honor the Imperial and call it by it's proper name. The Imperial. Of coarse 1955 and after. This was narrated by and intelligent and knowlegable man........then he blows it.
    Chrysler Newport parked next to a 68 Imperial. period.
    besides that.....nice work

    I agree that Imperial is not suppose to be associated with Chrysler, but the running gear and even the glass has a Chrysler “star” on it. Just like the new “Ram” trucks.

    • @allenmax8995
      @allenmax8995 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chrysler products came with the small pentastar badge on the lower right fender, Imperial from 55 -75 were registered as IMPERIAL make, Crown or Southhampton or LeBaron model, Imperial had a separate production plant and different chassis from Chrysler.

    It's not a Crown Imperial, it's not a Chrysler, the name of the car is a 1968 Imperial Crown. A Crown Imperial is a specific model made by Ghia, about a dozen a year, stretched...that's a "Crown Imperial". Chrysler Imperials ended in 1954, then were resurrected in 1990.....I realize you're trying to do a correct historical representation. Imperials were a separate made, like Desoto or Dodge......you don't call a Lincoln a Ford Lincoln do you?

    • @frequencyfluxfandango8504
      @frequencyfluxfandango8504 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you are absolutely correct. Anyone in any confusion over the Imperial name should definitely check the content on your (magnificent) channel.

      @rollingtones1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      OsbornTramain It’s an Imperial by Chrysler, and the model of Imperial is a “Crown”. Built by Chrysler in a Chrysler factory. Unlike the 1957 Continental, it was NOT built in a separate building. No matter who screws up the name, it’s still a great car. People will confuse the name until time immemorial. Same as the Continental, built by Ford. Most people still call it a Lincoln.

    My uncle had a '62 Super 88 2 door hardtop from 1963 to 1971. I rode in it many times and drove it a few times after I got my license in 1967. I suppose driving it every day made a difference, but just driving it a few times, it could be a scary car to drive as it had tons of power and had very light steering and sensitive power brakes.

    That chrome is amazing!
    In 1968 that would be brushed metal on the dash. The wood was the previous model, 66-67.

    Hasn't this been corrected yet? There's no such thing as a "Chrysler Imperial", it's an Imperial Crown.

      @imperial73 - They actually were called "Chrysler Imperial " until the 1955 model year,when the Imperial was split off and registered as a separate make from 1955 - 1975.The Imperial name was then discontinued.It was brought back once again from 1981 - 1983 as a Chrysler model.It sold poorly,so it was dropped after 1983.

    • @shwt121
      @shwt121 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chrysler thought they could come at it by splitting Imperial into a separate make......kind of like Hyundai & Genesis......

    WHY DO SOME FOLKS make such a stink over this car's name ? It is a CHRYSLER IMPERIAL. WPC's most elaborate offering. This model was made from 1926 to 1955 using both its names. From 1955 to 1969 the car was named "Imperial" only in a marketing ploy to distinguish it. One of my favorite cars, it sold way behind Lincoln and forget Cadillac. 1957 was Imperial's best sales year. With the new Fuselage styling for 1969, the car went back to being Chrysler Imperial as it now shared bodies with all lesser models, a fat New Yorker. In honor of Walter P. let's call it what it is and has always been.... 1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown.

      @jtp585 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is an Imperial! There were no such thing as a Chrysler Imperial after 54. For example Edsel wasn´t not Ford Edsel and Buick Electra was just plain Buick Electra despite the body made by Fischer. Also in 73-75 Imperial had it´s own brochures again after slipping for two years. Every Imperial had a VIN starting with a letter Y instead of C.

      For as long as I can remember, people called them Chrysler Imperials. It did not matter if Imperial was set up a separate Division, in the minds of the public it was viewed as top of the line Chrysler. Part of the identity problem was the dealership network where the Imperial brand was sold alongside the Chrysler brand at a Chrysler/Imperial Dealership. The names have been joined at the hip forever.

    NO SUCH THING as a 1968 “Chrysler” IMPERIAL.
    IMPERIAL was SEPARATED from the Chrysler Division and became a
    SEPARATE MAKE and DIVISION unto ITSELF in 1955.
