Hey! I used to make wings that i sold at renaissance festivals... I put in a U shaped brace in the back... it keeps the wings from flopping around and you can insert it down into the back of a corset if you want (i also had ties attached so it could be attached that way too). it makes it very secure. i think you could easily attach wire in a U shape at the bottom and cover w/ floral tape... it will work better and hold up much longer than that craft foam.
i mean if you ever make a new pair. wish i could give you an illustration of what i mean but its a U with a piece going straight across at the top to give stability to the structure. so a U shape with a --- across it. :)
Afterward I saw a pair like that on Etsy from the shop I referenced. I wish I had seen that before I gave them to my commissioner lol. But yeah I’ll definitely be doing U wire like I did with my other pair.
I prefer straps too for my wings. I used elastic than covered with matching fabric same as my top. No one even knew how I had on 🙌 not all of us wear corsets. ✨💕✨
So true! The person I made it for was wearing a vest so he didn’t have anywhere to put a u wire. In hindsight some designs have the U wire there for stability but then have the straps as well. But they worked they came to pick them up!
These came out beautifully! Trial-and-error is the only way to make and we just figure it out as we go 🥰 That wire you used is called bailing wire. My husband uses it for literally everything and it gets SO MESSY!! I started making wings about 10 years ago and I love using steel galvanized wire, usually about a 16gauge. Its sturdy, maleable, and doesnt leave smudges all over your hands. You can get a big roll at the hardware store for not much $.
They are beautiful! I love how the colors came together. Cicada wings look like fairy wings to me anyways. I make earrings out of their wings, when I find them hiking. The cicada has passed away, when I find them. Great job, lady. 😍👏👏👏
They turned ouy so pretty! Also what kind of fabric did you use for the straps? 🤔 Planning to do a pair and because the top is rather short straps are probably the savest option 🙈🤣
I used this fabric for fairy wings over the summer. Biggest pain in my ass, but sooo pretty. Unfortunately instead of a lighter wire I used a hanger. I had to make 2 sets of wings with 4 panels each(took me forever). They were for my neices for the Sterling Renaissance fair. I think I'll test run my soldering tool next time on this fabric and DEFINITELY use a lighter wire. NO WIRE HANGERS!
Oh the sweatshirt is from my shop! I have this one and the sketch version too. There’s a shop tab on my videos and on my TH-cam profile that should show some of the options.
@@DressMeUpScotty I made a butt ton of poly satin flowers for a costume I was working on, and as soon as I cut all the petals it was like instant fray everywhere, hank god the plan was to melt them anyway or I would have had nothing but a pile of pretty strings.
Because the person wearing them isn’t wearing a corset so they opted for straps since there wasn’t anywhere to put the U wire into. I could have done both but didn’t think to do that.
Oh that’s a good idea! I don’t have a soldering iron but I have a wood burner tool with a needle tip, looks similar to a soldering iron I could probably use! 😁
"Because these wings are not for me, I actually made up a plan"
So relatable.

I LITERALLY HAVE BEEN LOKING FOR THIS FOREVER OMG YOU ARE AMAZING I CAN BE THE FAE OF MY DREAMS
🥰🥰♥️
They turned out beautifully! ❤ That fabric is a dream
Tysm! ♥️
Those are so beautiful. 😍😍😍
I really need to make myself a pair. I'd love to be a little fairy.
Loved the video. You always make them so fun. Ty.❤❤❤
Yay definitely make some! (Altho I’d recommend doing a U wire for stability 🫢)
Glad you enjoyed! ♥️
Okay I love, new-ish subscriber here. I’m obsessed and I just started watching!
Yay glad to have to here 😁
@@DressMeUpScotty so so happy to be here!!

Ty!! ♥️
They turned out so cute!!!!!!!
Thank you! ♥️
Thanks for sharing!! I made some from cellophane, so it'll be fun to try making some with a different technique
♥️♥️
Excellent work! ❤
I love that, like me, while working on the floor, you use your third hand….. your foot! Gorgeous wings!!
Haha gotta get that stability 😂
Stunning work!
Thank you!
They are beautiful!
That fabric is gorgeous!! I love how they turned out
Thanks you! ♥️
love your mushroom shirt
Ty! 🍄
I like the idea of painting the veins on. I tried to do it with wire and it was too heavy. I might revisit that project.
they came out so cute!!! i have pretty much half the stuffs needed, might try this out ✨
These look great! Nice work! Thank you for showing all the trial and errors. Its super helpful.
Thank you! ♥️
FYI, this fabric can be dyed with RIT dye. I dyed and overdyed my fabric to get unique colors.

Love these! Do you know what gauge wire you used?

Would bailing wire work better? It's sturdier, but still workable. I use it for a lot of things.
It might! I’ve never used it as far as I know But if it’s sturdy and workable I think it would be perfect.
@@DressMeUpScotty I hope it'll be just the thing for you!
Where did you get your hoodie!! I need it!
Nice!
Absolutely love your videos! By the way, where did you get the raccoon hoodie? I’ve been looking for something like that for my sister.
Oh the sweatshirt is from my shop! I have this one and the sketch version too. There’s a shop tab on my videos and on my TH-cam profile that should show some of the options.
😮😍❤️❤️❤️
I THOUGH THIS WAS ALREADY OUT 😭😭😭
Soon! 6pm PST 😁
😍😍😍😍
Did you try melting the edge instead of pinking?
Yes and that seemed to work ok. I melted it down using the tip of the hot glue gun after it was attached and trimmed down further.

Wondering why you didn’t just make a U shape out of wire like literally every other tutorial on TH-cam 🧐 very pretty though
Because the person wearing them isn’t wearing a corset so they opted for straps since there wasn’t anywhere to put the U wire into. I could have done both but didn’t think to do that.
Cut it like lace next time and use a soldering iron! It's a plastic fabric and won't fray!

Ok passing out from blood. Fine. But dreaming of Shrek????? 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I have questions lol story time?
😂😂😂 it’s such an embarrassing story. We’ll save that for my next Q&A 😂
Fray stop on the edges before you cut.
