Sadly bringing a big scary expensive monster against one of the best monster killing factions in the game was perhaps not the smartest move

@@fatcatlocatedinahat962 in my opinion the top players of warhammer misuse the big monsters in their armies. they think throwing them in first absorbing arrows and healing is the way to go but it really just maximizes the opponents ranged unit value. it then becomes too easy to break the formation of the smaller opening army you've brought, the big monster has to retreat, waste time and also take up micro.
Ask yourself, in any fantasy battle scenario where you've seen giant monsters, has the monster ever been the thing walking in alone? On the contrary... the big monster is something you bring out in the midst of the chaos of the middle of the battle to utterly crush the morale and battle plan of the enemy. once all the pieces that deal with big monsters are distracted - if you summon a big monster, all of those pieces will have to stop what they're doing, regroup and break their own positions in order to start focusing on the monster.
I used to do it all the time with 2 giants before they got buffed multiple times. I would bring a normal army and play normally while holding the giants back at my artillery pieces and once the battle became a bit more decided i would bring the giants in with my reserve pieces and the enemy wouldnt have the proper tools to then deal with full life giant monsters that terror route their already low and shaky units. It works wonders and is how you're intended to use a giant beast like that
@@fatcatlocatedinahat962 Depends. It can be an unexpected pick and has utility against melee-majority factions, provided they don't excel at anti-large. I've found it has some utility against Greenskins as a surprise pick as it pretty much insta-routs anything they have.

The big thing to consider when picking the other dread saurians over the shredder is that the shredder has the dread aversion aura. It was this that was nuking their leadership at the start of this battle.
I have tried the other variants of the Dread Saurian and the one that always performs the best is the RoR variant. Empire stands no chance against one. It will rout everyone off the field immediately.

Kudos to Turin for uploading losses. Means I don't know who is going to win and the videos are more interesting because of it.
Compared to the feral one the shredder has a frontal ranged attack which counts as artillery for leadership, the skinks throwing javelins on the broadsides which counts as regular missiles and the leadership decrease aura. So it actually contributes a lot more in decreasing enemy morale than the feral variant. But there are cheaper ways to abuse low leadership.
You gotta consider the meta game too:
Housecat of War has Immune to Psych, but most opponents would terror rout as soon as they saw that big boy line up against them.

The Dread Aversion leadership debuff from the Shredder is the real reason to take it over the other Dreads. It's not the most cost effective unit, but when you opponent doesn't expect it and fails to take enough missiles, it can really hurt. It's especially good when you're facing vampire counts blobs and weaker demonic infantry.
The Dreaded Dreader of Lustria sounds even better than the original.

Hunters (Javelins) are super efficient against big targets, evoking that neolithic mammoth chaser vibe. If Chameleon Stalkers got a slight cost reduction, they might be a good adjunct for diving the backline in setups like this.

imo the dread saurian's face being literally a shield should give them bronze shields to give a little more ranged resistance
Would chameleon skinks help? They have nearly the same range as the hunters, start with a screen of them out and then summon in a dreader?

I recommend to use the feral version of the big monster, he is almost half the price and his rampage is very manageable :D

The enormous hp pool of the dreadsaurian unit works well with the % based healing
some flyers to follow around the shredder to rout off the terrified units would be good

Honest question, would red crested skinks work against such an army since they have armor piercing or are they overpriced or something for what they offer..?
Probably a bit too fragile to trade efficiently against Norsca. But they have immunity to contact effects, which could be useful against some factions.

The Shredder (maaaybe Dread Saurians in general) should have an aura that removes ITP, make them Dreadful!
Shredder should cost a bit less and Bjuna needs to do a bit less damage
Even with the 22 WoM cost, the undodgeable + heavy damage combo is a bit much. Maybe its damage should scale negatively with the caster's distance? So if you want the full "cavalry deleted with a click" effect, you'd have to almost get in their faces when casting and put some risk into it.
