  • I always wanted to try out wheels that are not as prone to side winds. It seems that a wavy profile might be the answer to this. So I was very happy when GOAT Wheels founder Simon reached out and asked if I would be willing to give his wheels a try.
    Lets find out together how they perform.

    The rims look good, but in my eyes the J-bend spokes look a bit outdated and dare I say...cheap? It's a small detail - the bends are mostly hidden behind the cassette/disk rotors/fork and I'm sure the hubs are fantastic, but still... :D

    nice video as usual!, thanks for keeping the quality content :).
    ****OCD-Talking:
    i just realized by watching it that the Conti and 5000's logos on the tires are not exactly to the opposite side of each other. this call my attention because de GW logo was not matching the 5000 perfectly(which disturbed me because i am a bit obsessed with things being align properly, which of course is my problem) , I though for a second that maybe you did not match the tire logo to the valve (which i assume you would do by seeing how much attention to detail you put on building your bikes and videos), which you of course did. So I went to look how things look on my wheels and with my 5000's, by my surprise they have the same "Issue", but since i personally like to match de 5000 logo to the valve instead of the CONTI LOGO, and because my wheels only have a little wall-sticker where the valve is and not one on the perfect opposite side of it, as the GOAT Wheels do, it is no as evident.
    What is cool about it; I realized that there is people that like to match the 5000 to the valve and others (probably more) that rather to match the "CONTINENTAL" to the valve.
    What it is not soo coool (for me)and trying to close this topic, it is hard to look at my wheels and tires as I use to do because of this alignment issue 😢😂.

    • @klein-concept
      @klein-concept  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks a lot. And i noticed the same alignment issue with the logo. I aligned the whole conti gp logo with the valve but as its darker its hard to see at first glance.
      Might change it when i have a moment for it.

      @@klein-concept Jojo!, I Didn't mean it as a criticism, but as an observation on conti tires, i actually look frame by frame and I noticed you did it right. It is just the way the logos are made on the conti tires and I guess also hast to do with the elasticity of them as well ! ❤️

    • @GeorgeD1
      @GeorgeD1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know right! It has been like this and bothered me for ages! It is (a small, but still) part of the reason why I switched to the "transparent" sidewall Conti 5000s! The logos are black, and it is overall not so noticeable against the brownish sidewall. I also align just the "Continental" part with the valve which kind of draws the attention away from the full "Grand Prix 5000" on the other side. 😁

    • @luisvalenzuela5132
      @luisvalenzuela5132 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GeorgeD1 Cause of the same reason and since "Grand prix" is wirtten in dark and "5000" in silver y only match de "5000" to the valve and it does not look soooooo bad 🤣

      Old school so ally set. 1500gms, hooked. Tubeless ready but will use tpu tubes. Had great success with TPU this winter. Only 3 punctures and 2 of those were snake bite due to huge pot hole under a puddle. TPU tubes seem to deform round those flints that go in and out of the tyre. If the flint remains in the tyre the tubes eventually puncture.

    Have you had a chance to ride these, and how do they compare with the crw wheelset you recently received? Mostly interested in stiffness, ability to accelerate off the line, ability to hold speed, reaction to crosswinds, lightness, and stability on descents. I am looking at these wheels along with the crw and also the elite wheels drive helix.

    • @klein-concept
      @klein-concept  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I still need to ride the crw s more but i really like the Goat wheels. Have not ridden steels spokes for a while and while it gives you a slight (nicel) springy feel when heavily accelerating in comparison to carbon spoked wheels it also dampens road vibrations way better. So if you are riding a carbon bike and want to take the edge off a bit the goat ones could be very interesting. So far they are also the most crosswind resistant wheels that i own.
      Also for traveling having that extra peace of mind that any bike shop could fix a spoke is also a great bonus.
      Hope that helps a bit.

    • @emisoo12
      @emisoo12 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the insights. I’ve actually only ridden carbon wheels with sapim steel spokes so I don’t really have a feel for carbon spokes, other than the feedback most people have conveyed that the ride is a bit stiffer. Anyway, the goat wheels do looks nice. And btw, I really enjoy your vlogs - very informative.

    Spokes in the rim bed? In terms of weight and price they're no better than any other wheels. It just makes me wonder why they bother. My farsports are deeper, lighter and cheaper with the same spokes, brass nipples and dt swiss hubs.

    So it is indeed a pseudo / boutique brand that buys OEM Chinese rims and then charges a fortune for them because they put hubs with large bearings and build them in France where labour is expensive and less experienced at wheel building at scale. My Farsports wheels have had sapim cx ray spokes since 2015 and for the price difference, i can probably get five pairs of hubs. Gimmicky.

    • @klein-concept
      @klein-concept  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean you could say this about pretty much any product which is not mass build in China. I also think its ok to pay extra for that bit of customization. I assume that it does actually make a difference if you re a 65kg, a 85kg or 95kg rider in regards to what the optimal spoke tension should be for you. I doubt that you would be able to request this service at mass market brands as all the wheels are already pre assembled and sitting in warehouses.
      Of course one could ask if this is needed for every rider, and i guess there the answer is no. But I still think it is good to have brands like GW that you can reach out to if you are looking for a set of wheels which are tuned to your liking.

      @@klein-concept Just go to their website, they haven't made it easy for English, it's on par with Chinese websites. They lied about the weight by 20g according to your scales. They did say their gravel wheels were hookless but nothing about the road versions. And French companies are more difficult to deal with because they don't like the US. Ever go to a McDonalds in Canada right across the US Canadian Boarder? I tried to learn how to speak French but it was so difficult I gave up. If I can't speak your language I'm not going to deal with you. BOYD wheels are now being fully made right here in the US. I support our economy as much as possible because America is going to be great again. Trump supporter here. Just saying. 🤣

    • @klein-concept
      @klein-concept  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a english and french language switch in the menu which worked well for me so far. It s also a very fresh brand with a tiny "team" so they are just getting things started. I would rather have the wheel perform well than having a flashy website. But of course that will also happen at some point.
      Regarding the weight. I think their statement on the website is still accurate as mine still had them rim tape on. Didnt want to remove this just to weigh it but normally manufacturers weigh wheels without rim tape.
      Anyways lets see how the wheels will perform in the next weeks. We got some good winds in Berlin atm.
