UK TV 2001, prog called 'Hello Culture'. The show was themed around evil in culture, and featured pieces on Burroughs, de Sade, Byron, and both of them Mansons.
@TheAnalStaircase Coil's "Live At Bar Maldoror" was properly released as an lp back in the early 80's, right around the time Current 93 released their own "Live At Bar Maldoror" lp. Both had identical white sleeves with the only information being on the spines of the lp's.
Sleazy always comes over as a sweetheart and Jhonn is a great interviewee. So very sad they're both gone, we need provocateurs like Coil. Is the third guy Thighpaulsandra?
@drplbiftin strange but I just read that quote elsewhere before reading it here! I met Peter 3 times (twice at their house in Chiswick) and he seemed like a nice guy. I recall they were good friends with Marc Almond. It's hard to believe that they've both gone.
No, they weren't. They had recorded material for an album at Trent Reznor's studio a few years before. That album ("Backwards") never had an official release, though some of the material does turn up of sorts in "The Ape of Naples" and "The new Backwards". There is a photo of Trent in a Coil-shirt somewhere on the net.
4:23 i'd love to be able to read all the spines, can anyone spot specifics? i see mostly crowley (lieber aegis 4, the vision and the voice, etc.) but towards the right i'm curious what those are.
***** thanks for the info. how could i write him? would he also know where that PERSISTENCE IS ALL marquee went i wonder? i like kenneth anger movies, didn't know he was a book publisher too.
Anybody knows what the symbol they wear around their necks is called? Looks like 8 connected Algiz runes, but I've googled my ass off and the nearest thing I can find is the Helm of Awe which sort of looks like it.
Ahh, great to see Jhonn and Sleazy (and Thighpaulsandra). I'd heard this interview before, but never seen the video. What is "Hello Culture"? I can't say I was very impressed with the interviewer, but it's always good to see any new Coil stuff so thanks for uploading.
Thinking of Autechre! Have you ever listened to Coil: Toshi? I searched thru The ThresholdHouseBoys and ThighPaulSandra's new music but it was too scary! Jhon Balance fell over so Coil is no more! They had a huge influence on Warp. Music for Chod, to invite the demons-to eat your fear. The sound of Satan's hooves in my skull! Only listen to as an antidote.
I just want to leave a few words here because there's a lot in COIL I admire. I don't understand why exploring either the depths of one's subconscious or the absence of lumens or anything else for that matter would have to be necessarily linked to evil when in reality it is only people's perception of good that is dull. Aren't good and evil primary perceptions of physics? Force, energy, mass, charge, positive, negative, etc... Now why would these people be dubbed "evil"?
I understand what are notions of morality but that's not what I asked: "Aren't good and evil primary perceptions of physics? Force, energy, mass, charge, positive, negative, etc...". Because societies develop. And so does their perception of what is around them.
I started a band called Love's Secret Domain a few years ago. It doesn't sound like coil but was indeed inspired by the Coil Aesthetic. The band has an Ep called PURE. It's on itunes and amazon. Look it up. It was produced out of a bedroom in Southern California with no budget and mastered to tape.
The end of this video, where the narrator says "How 'bout some sex?", the music changes to what sounds like the intro to Suicide's song Dream Baby Dream. Cool video, though. Really interesting.
for a splitsecond I imagined he was going to ask Why is there shit on your face in "Scatology"? Sleazy should have smeared old Matthew's face with ... peanut butter, just to be friendly with guests. I suspect that Coil during the interview are sometimes taking the piss, although acting very sincere and caring. Single intelligent question triggered a typical Coil-type of answer : "Why do you think X-tianity is so concerned to washing its hands all the time?"-"...denial of responsability!" POW!
ya calling them crowley followers is a bit of a stretch i think, since they simply had an interest in him, but not really the relationship of a disciple. the same goes for the accumulation of male energy as being their motto, since that was simply one phase of their long stretch... what was it, 23 years of magical output or so i think since 1984? oh well not a big deal :p
haha--tió, with the accent, not tio. not sh!tting uncle, but sh!tting LOG. they take a big log inside on christmas and smack it with sticks while ordering it to crap out presents. finally, after several rounds of this, it craps out a herring. I am not making any of this up.

Is the narrator rubbing his nipples whilst speaking? His voice denotes an air of self-pleasuring while talking about COIL.
this was a fabulous series.
good to see this bit again.

It's Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil medley, the very finish of their Moscow concert back in 2001. This gig is actually Live Two cd from Live Box.
Sleazy always comes over as a sweetheart and Jhonn is a great interviewee. So very sad they're both gone, we need provocateurs like Coil. Is the third guy Thighpaulsandra?
YES!
It's on 'Constant Shallowness Leads To Evil', and very fine it is. It's out of print, so try eBay...

sounds like Suicide is playing at the end.

Yeah, they were going to release an album on the Nothing imprint before it went kaput.
Does anyone know what Thighpaulsandra is playing in this clip? It can be seen clearly at the 0:24 mark.
4:23 i'd love to be able to read all the spines, can anyone spot specifics?

@CreepyT Sleazy synth is a Synton Fenix
@drplbiftin Do you know where this quote of Sleazy came from? Thank you kindly.
Where can I found the whole documentary? In the name of the coiled god, someone please give me a light.
Anybody knows what the symbol they wear around their necks is called? Looks like 8 connected Algiz runes, but I've googled my ass off and the nearest thing I can find is the Helm of Awe which sort of looks like it.
I guess it makes as much sense as easter eggs, Christmas trees and mistletoe....
"nettle tea because they would never abuse them (their bodies)" oh Lord so mega amounts of booze were ok?
I think calling them "Crowley followers" really doesn't do them justice.
Anyway...I miss John.

Can anyone tell me the name of the model of synths they are playing on the rocks?

prayers'd be needed
Rest In Peace, Pete.
@Lunarwill R.I.P. indeed, so sad.

Higher Being Commands
What's the song at 3:34 ?
I understand what are notions of morality but that's not what I asked:

Because societies develop. And so does their perception of what is around them.
"Not very beastly anymore"
He'll regret that
@captainshitto my my, you're pleasant
what happened to the last minute?!!!

Cool video, though. Really interesting.
Despite the interviewer being generally disliked...does anybody know where to watch the entire programme??
R.I.P Peter Christopherson.
They really hit it on the target when speaking about folks too scared to be evil buy little bit of evil instead.
Holy Shit!
@drplbiftin Thanks again.
R.I.P. Uncle Sleazy
RIP Sleazy :(
@timmytwotits
You do know he was being sarcastic?
There was a period of "healthy" time where they both tried to kick the habit.
Yeah, I think you're right, actually
Thighpaulsandra = EMS Synthi A
Jhonn = EMS VCS3
Sleazy = ??? looks familiar but can't place it.
for a splitsecond I imagined he was going to ask Why is there shit on your face in "Scatology"? Sleazy should have smeared old Matthew's face with ... peanut butter, just to be friendly with guests. ok........ your choice. (i saw this laughing)
Yeah, that's "Cheree".
ya calling them crowley followers is a bit of a stretch i think, since they simply had an interest in him, but not really the relationship of a disciple.

Video is fucked up (not the vidoe itslef the upload on youtube WTF...) LAG?
It could be a live version of God please fuck with my mind for good....
Sounds like "Cheree" to me.
i have tried hard but i just can't get into these dudes
sensationalistic interviewer , yes . . .
haha--tió, with the accent, not tio. not sh!tting uncle, but sh!tting LOG. they take a big log inside on christmas and smack it with sticks while ordering it to crap out presents. finally, after several rounds of this, it craps out a herring. I am not making any of this up.
what happened to sex ?
well, coil surely deserved a more appropriate interviewer...
no such thing
I don't really like the sarcastic interviewer :(
Coil are fucking great though
RIP Jhonn
the only thing sillier than that would be a band called how to destroy angels.
patronizing almost...nice video,though
I don´t like the interviewer either.
