Thanks for making these videos. My 16 year old son recently lost his mother to cancer. Even before that he struggled with ADHD ,now there is depression to deal with. Watching your videos I’m starting to think this may help both of us. He and I need a common interest to bond together with , and I think that a snake may be a possible step in the right direction. I’m going to run the idea by him and see what he thinks. Thanks again for your videos! You are amazing!
I found out that I have aspergers when I was 38 and recently discovered I have ADHD too. I'm 56 and last year I was introduced to my first snakes. Ball pythons and corn snakes. They are wonderful. So relaxing and help me so much, especially when I'm in sensory overload.
I'm 54 and was only diagnosed as autistic a few months ago. Coincidentally, around the same time that I started to really consider the likelihood that I'm autistic, I started seeing reptile videos popping up in my TH-cam feed and that revived my childhood interest in snakes. My parents were both terrified of snakes so I never had one as a kid and kind of set that interest aside for a long time, but I finally got a ball python just a few days before my autism assessment. I've absolutely found it to have a very calming influence. I wish I had known years ago how helpful a snake can be.
oh, thank you so much for sharing this @markwood1159! what an interesting story and perfect timing for sparking your re-interest in snakes. So happy you have your BP to give you comfort now. ❤
Omg! This reminds me soo much of how my daughter is with our BCI, she can go from being up in the rafters having me pulling my hair out, 😅 To calm peaceful and using nice indoor voice, in a matter of minutes! Its so interesting that its not just my experience. I'd love to see some fully published research papers done on this.
Oh that's amazing! If you ever want to share that for an episode, please let me know. I think more people need to witness it!! The articles are in the description, but he's right, there's not THAT much out there on it. I did, however, hear from a psychiatrist who says they've used snakes with her patients for years, so I definitely want to talk with them and see if they have more research references to share.
@Snake_Therapy I'd love to, but i don't like putting my daughter online. Had a negative experience with trolls doctoring photos before. I'll see if i can get it on video and possibly blur her face Wow! That's really interesting that a psychiatrist uses snakes with their patients. I really look forward to the video when you talk about that! Keep up the amazing content!
Oh no! Totally understandable- yes, blurring faces could totally work, although it kind of sucks because then you don't get to see the SMILES. And thank you so much for watching, I'm so glad you enjoy 😊❤
TL-DR: Various types of animals helped me and my mom (both adults with late-diagnosed of autism) throughout our entire lives. Also, I want a snake. Brazil makes it difficult, but I have a plan in motion. I'm an adult with late diagnosed autism LV1 of support, and my mom also has a late diagnosis but LV2 of support (imagine going 40 years of your life with LV2 of support without knowing what that makes you so different and life so harder compared to others) just as context. My mom lived her whole life with animals because when she was a kid she lived in a more distant house of the city, and her father was a hunter, but very respectful of nature and only kills if you going to eat it type, and she used to tell me a lot about animals she would see, coexist in its natural habitate without bothering them and even sometimes handle including snakes which is not very common thing to do to snakes where I live, this proportionate a lifetime of been close to animals and knowing how to handle animals properly wild or a pet for her and me, which helped us with some of the emotional difficulties of Autism throughout life without us realizing it, I don't know about my mom, but if were not for the animals I would not be here today it really helped me as a kid and help me today. We have had a lot of pets throughout our lives, but no snakes as pets yet, and I think it would be really a good to have one, so I'm in the middle of a 1-2 year plan to get one. 1-2 years is because I live in Brazil, where it is expensive and somewhat difficult to get a snake and its needs here.
Thank you for sharing this! Wow, yes that must have been so difficult to not understand what was going on for so long! I wish you all the best of luck with your plan to get a snake. Do you know what kind you want? What are the laws around snake keeping in Brazil? If it's not a common occurrence, I hope you are able to find the resources you need to not only get the animal, but get the things you'll need to give it a good life in captivity. If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to reach out!
Thank you to Dave for sharing yours and Scarlett's wonderful journey with snakes so far, and thank you to Shira for facilitating this opportunity to shed light on the beautiful effects that snakes have on our mind and mood 🥰 I'm not quite in a spot right now to own any snakes, but I cherish any chance to interact with them, whether captive or wild. It's a happy place of mine. It's incredibly constructive for my mental well-being, and connecting with them helps me reconnect with myself, like you said. I'm excited to read the articles Dave found, and I loved the comment from Dave's wife about an E.T. - Elliot relationship 🤣 Here's to all the people out there who have that relationship with their snake 😊 It was super cool to see that organic moment with Zenith, and big thanks to him as well for his appearance 🐍 Oh and I'm SO glad you guys also highlighted the capacity snakes have to get cues from our emotional state as well. They must be so much more intelligent than the majority might think ❤️🐍
Right?! Three cheers to Dave for sharing this with the world, and what an amazing experience it was to witness it first hand! I also loved that E.T.-Elliot comment 🤣
