This Clip is an AI upscale from the DVD but they have now done a real transfer from the original 16/35 mm film and the HD version was shown over Christmas on BBC Four and should hopefully still be avlaible on iPlayer if you in the UK . They have done an amazing job!
@@nsmmedia - Thanks for that. I've yet to watch that news item on this. I'm guessing they scanned it to 2K or even 4K even though they've had to cut it down to 1920x1080 HD. Do you know about a Blu-ray release? BBC iPlayer is OK but there's still less compression with a Blu-ray to get the best 1920x1080 HD picture possible. Do you have access to ITV programmes?
I suppose as you did this from the DVD yourself this isn't the BBC version where they've actually transferred the negatives from? So you don't have access to the BBC masters? I only asked because I'm desperate to get all 13 episodes of the comedy series Bottle Boys (originally LWT) in fairly good quality with not too much compression. I've been looking for them for over 2 1/2 years. This is ITV Studios now. Is the new One Foot In The Algarve going to be released on Blu-ray, like the early Only Fools And Horses were (well, half HD)?
Hi Andrew, I believe they did scan it in at higher resolution and then produce the final graded version in 1080p. They also scanned in a couple of other episodes that were shot on film “The Beast in the Cage” “Hearts of Darkness “ But these have yet to be shown anywhere in HD I’m hoping they will get a showing at some point. Unfortunately there are no plans (yet) for a BluRay release of OFITG so best way to watch Algarve is iPlayer while it’s still on there. I don’t have access to any masters myself like I say this clip was from the DVD to demonstrate the Topaz Video AI capabilities and done before they announced the real HD transfer. Regarding Bottle Boys that’s not one I have in my collection have you tried reaching out to ITV Studios to see if they have the masters still?
Was this actually transferred from the 16mm film?
