Thank you Robin I finally finished my beautiful sunflower blanket for my daughter. It measures 142cms x 92cms in total 77 squares (11 squares down x 7 squares across). I used the same colours. It took 4 x 100g balls of gold, 2 x 100g balls of brown (with 84g left over), 6 x 100g of cream (with 33g left over) and included the zig zag joining of squares and 3 x 100g pumpkin (with 46g left over). Hope these calculations helps everyone. I will try and attach a photo of my finished project. 😊

THE most detailed, straight forward, up close and CLEAR tutorial I can find ANYWHERE!!!!! And the easiest to follow along!! and you don’t drag!!! AMAZING!! I’m a beginner and this is top tier teaching👌👌
I think I’ve told you before, but you really ARE the BEST TEACHER on TH-cam! I love your easy to follow tutorials, your calm and lovely voice, and your beautiful patterns. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. ❤️ You really inspire me.
@@kieralisekellystanchek6729 I agree! I am new to crochet and have looked up a number of tutorials. Robin's are by far the best - instructions are so clear and easy to follow.
Robin REALLY is the best teacher. Before her, I couldn't crochet at all. Unable to sleep one night during lockdown, I stayed up most of the night watching the intro videos. By morning I had a small pile of granny squares. Thank you, Robin!
15:38 was such a, like... satisfying moment. Just "Crush it flat!" *thunk* was incredibly amusing and definitely sold me on this one in a weird way. I was already looking up yarns to maybe try this for a holiday present and now I absolutely have to.
I made the traditional sunflower colors using this pattern and gave it to my granddaughter for Christmas last year. Also made a 16" pillow with a sunflower and leaves in the middle and a bolster with sunflowers on each end. Then I made her a sunflower coaster set in a crocheted container for her birthday. This was very time consuming, but looked wonderful.
The sunflower colours were my daughters choice! I think its very trendy with the youngsters at the moment (and considering she has NEVER asked me for crochet before, I jumped on it 😅) Your bolsters sound beautiful! 🌻
Very good tutorial for a beginner. You are very in-depth and clear with your teaching. I also like how close to the camera you keep your work. It is very easy for the viewer to see exactly what you're doing. Also, your nails look amazing 😊
I browsed through so many videos, didn't understand the method and was confused, then came across your video ,all my doubts and issues are cleared. Thank you for teaching in such a good way. Your explanation was really helpful 👍
i’ve been desperately trying to do literally any granny square i could possibly find a tutorial for and this is the first one i’ve been able to do! i’m so excited! not only is it a granny square but it’s got the coolest design and it turned out exactly like in the video! i’m so happy thank you so so much!!
Excellent tutorial. I agree 100% with Stephanie Miller, the clearest and the best teacher I have watched on TH-cam whilst attempting to follow a crotchet pattern.
This tutorial is INCREDIBLE. I've been crocheting for about 2 years now and never worked up the courage to move beyond repetitive scarves until I found this pattern & this video... I was worried, but decided to give it a shot and OMG. NEVER have I watched a more helpful tutorial. I SO appreciate that you show every step carefully. You explain everything so clearly and kindly! And your voice is so lovely and calming!! I'm so glad I happened to stumble onto this as I venture into more complicated projects. Thank you thank you thank you!! So excited to make a complete blanket! You rock!!!
Was worried that I wasn't interested in crafts any longer, but thought I might make a granny afghan for my Godson who recently got engaged. Went to TH-cam and found this pattern, bought the yarn and am happily making this lovely piece. The instructions are easy to understand and I am appreciative of the great instructions, thank you.
I watch a lot of crochet tutorials and I have to say, your instructions, the speed and delivery and description, are perfect! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I'm a beginner crocheter and this is the easiest example of this I have come across. Thank you for being so self-explanatory and going slow with us beginners, lol.
I learned crocheting and knitting from my grandma and I don't know any of the names of the stitches in English, so I really appreciate that you always say the name and then show slowly how it's done, it's really easy to understand like that and I got the hang of the pattern so fast. Working on a blanket like this for my new living room now!
I’m a crochet beginner so this type of granny square appeared a bit challenging but you explained every step so clearly! I’m now confident in my ability to make this. Thank you thank you thank you!!
That was a great tutorial. The blue background is a perfect contrasting colour. The chart of stitches over the work near the end is a good visual of the pattern Well done 🇨🇦 ❤️
I'm teaching my granddaughters how to crochet. I sometimes use videos they can watch as we go. I've been wanting to teach granny squares and I think you're video is perfect to help me. Such clear and precise directions, easy to follow for my young crocheters (7-14yrs). Thank you! So happy I ran across this video!
Thank you so so much, I have just finished my blanket, using this square, and followed your tutorial for the edging, so chuffed with myself, never crocheted anything other than little hearts till found this tutorial, thank you for making it so easy to follow xxxxx
My friend and I didn’t know how to crochet prior to this video, but after successfully making a sunflower granny square watching your video, we felt we could crochet our next project immediately! Thank you so so so so much! You are such an amazing teacher!!
I’ve been crocheting for like 2 or 3 months now and have just been mind blown by how you do the starting circle, the idea of holding your starting end so it weaves it in for you on regular rounds, and the way you thread your needle. This was an amazing tutorial and I am so appreciative!
Ive been struggling to find someone who makes clear Instructions while I try to expand my skills and you have truly led the way. Thank you so much, you’ve saved me so much time.
Your videos are genuinely the only ones I can follow, no annoying music, and the way you teach is so clear, I struggled with other videos as they didn’t really clearly show grabbing the yarn at the back, you should teach in person master classes 🤣
This is one of the sunflower square tutorial I've watched. I've watched several others just for my square come out uneven and "wavy" because it was completely flat. I have no idea why in the tutorial theirs came out flat while mine didn't, i know i was following the directions accurately because i focused on every detail to make it perfect. All that trying discouraged me to stopping crochet for a month until i finally got the courage to come back at it and i found your video. This video not only helped me make a proper flat square it also gave me back the courage to pursue crochet. Thank you thank you thank you, your work is very much appreciated.
I thought myself how to crochet by watching videos here on TH-cam so I'm not great but I do ok. I'm SO glad I found your channel!! You explain things so easily and that is appreciated! I can't wait to make a blanket using this pattern! It's not intimidating at all after watching this video. Thank you so very much for teaching the way you do!!!
Thanks for the tutorial!! Loved it!! I agree -- would love to see the tutorial on how to join these squares in the thumbnail. Looks so textured and beautiful ❤️
I have watched many, many tutorials on how to do a granny square. This is the first one that I have actually been able to successfully use. Granted, I do have to slow the speed and re-watch parts, BUT it is still very helpful. Thank you so much!!
How lovely! You are THE very best teacher, you make everything so easy and do-able even for us beginners. And your photography is superb…crystal clear and always in focus!
I love your tutorials. You explain things so easily. As a brand new crocheter I’m not sure what I don’t know and many of your videos (like blocking etc) also teach me so much. Thank you! ❤
Can't make a single complaint about this tutorial! Challenged myself to learn a new technique for my first project of 2022 and I'm already feeling really good about it after my first ever attempt went well thanks to your video! Easy to follow, very little confusion (I have math dyslexia so getting my stitch numbers right takes a while and is entirely on me), and you broke the video into chapters for each segment of the square. Thank you Robin ❤️
Having never been able to grasp crochet before, watching you has enabled me to start with the basic granny square very easily. Your tutorials are so easy and clear to follow. I have just watched the sunflower granny square and I cannot wait to advance to that. Thank you so much x
I want to applaud you for your teaching abilities. I am a beginner so to speak. I have crocheted many times but I have never been ab l e to follow a pattern. You ma n e things so easy to follow and make it look so simple. You are the first o rso n I have ever seen put up like a diagram with the abbreviations written like a pattern so to speak. I cant wait to try this one. Thank you so much.
Ok, 1st I love this. 2nd, I am from Kansas, so will totally be making these pattern soon. 3rd, this seems pretty easy. (I skipped over this video many times, thinking it was too hard for me! I finally watched it, & was proven wrong.)
I absolute love this pattern. You are such an excellent teacher. I am really glad I found you. I have been crocheting for over 60 years but since the pandemic started and I had to quit working I have learned so much, I am 73 so old doggies can learn new tricks. A happy crocheting lady in the USA. Thank you!❤️🤗
i am so excited.. you just taught me how to do this pattern. and I may have to work on my inner circle as I was off by 2 of the petals (instead of 16; had 14) and need to work on my hdcs but over all it came out really well like it was supposed to!!!!! tysm for your tutorial!!!
Thanks for the help with puff stitches as I didn't know how. We all start somewhere with everything in life. Always good to learn something new...I'm enjoying crochet here in South Africa.
I saw your pattern from Jess on Roots and Refuge and I’m in love with it! I haven’t crocheted in a few years but your pattern has inspired me to pick up my hook again! Beautiful and now I have a new crochet pattern teacher!
For the first round there are 16 including the 1st one. Just noticed you mentioned 15 so you probably meant not including the 1st. Thank you for the great pattern.
New subscriber - I use to crochet and just had emergency Spinal surgery with fusion so I am down for 10-12 weeks & saw this beautiful 🌻 pattern and want to start crocheting once again to give gifts to loved ones and for us. Thank you and to ROOTS & REFUGE you-tube channel for mentioning you and putting your link in her description. God bless you 🙏 ❤️
Thank you so much for subscribing, it is lovely to have you here. I hope your recovery is going well and that you enjoy making this blanket - it is a lovely one! 😃🌻
I love your tutorials. Your voice is easy to listen to, you're clear and thorough, and the instructions are perfectly understandable. Your beautiful accent makes me feel like I'm in a proper classroom with a lovely teacher. I'm a new subscriber. Keep up the great content!
I love your style of teaching. When I was teaching in a computer lab (those were a thing back in the 80’s) and I would tell the kids that if they made a mistake to STOP put your hands on you head and say “Oh No!”. This took their hands from the keyboard and gave them a moment to remember how to Zap the mistake by hitting command Z. As soon as you said STOP it took me back to those days and reminded me don’t just forge ahead when learning a new technique, count carefully before proceeding.😂
Hello Robin, I absolutely love the patterns you have posted a tutorial but this is my favorite and your voice is so easy to follow and soothing to hear as I follow the tutorial video. Thank you for your yarn creations . Love it ! God bless
Amazing video! Your instructions are so helpful and easy to understand, especially for a beginner like me! I’m currently working on a blanket with this pattern and it’s looking wonderful! Thank you 😊
I've already made about 12 of these just from a pattern I found. I had some issues with joining my rounds and starting the new colors as well as my tails being loose where I started the next color. I am so glad I found this tutorial! I'm going to follow your methods from now on. You answered all the questions I had! Thank you so much! I pinned this to my crochet pinterest board, saved this video in TH-cam and gladly liked and subscribed to your channel! 👍👍
Thank you for this video. I learned the basic crochet stitches many years ago. I like the bag and want to have one so I decided to try my hand at crochet again. I looked at many videos before deciding yours was the one for me. You are very thorough . I also find your voice very calming. Thanks!
I love this! I was immediately drawn to the join ! I would love to know how and what you used to create the beautiful edges throughout? Very nice work! Thank you for teaching 😃
I have to say Ms. Robin you are by far the best crochet teacher I have come across. I recently picked up crocheting, I can do a few stitches but the Granny square is a whole different story. I have unsuccessfully tried to learn how to crochet a granny square just the square and I can't. Not until I came across your channel and I DID IT!!🎉 I have made a Sunflower Granny square 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I'm so happy it's the little things that bring joy. Thank you Thank you for your patience, for going at an easy enough pace to follow and of course your great teaching skills. Looking forward to learning more from you.😊😊
Hi Robin another lovely pattern which you make a delight to follow. If I may ask you a crochet 🧶 question. I am going to buy some pure Arran wool from the sheep on the Island of Tiree in the Hebrides. Hand spun on the islands . I have order two 100 grms balls in either cream and brown or two cream. ( Haven’t decided yet ) What would be your recommendations for a beginner but getting much better! !!! Thank you Pamela
My only recommendation would be to use it for something special for yourself! Hand spun (and hand dyed) yarn is a weakness of mine, I love it! Aran is a good weight too - not too thin; not too thick 😍
My squares are approximately 5 inches using the chunky yarn and 6mm hook. I'm actually making a cardigan with the squares I show in the beginning and in the thumbnail! If you want slightly smaller squares for your cardigan you can use double knit yarn with a 4mm hook 😀
📌 The video for the join is here 😀 th-cam.com/video/W0-9A6ggtOk/w-d-xo.html

Same. I was also wondering who created the hook 😂

Made my friend a red, black, and white cardigan with the pattern she absolutely loves it!
This tutorial is so easy to follow and I love that you show the full round instead of just 2 seconds of which stitch to do. Love this so much!
Thank you so much Sam! 😃🌻
Ok, 1st I love this. 2nd, I am from Kansas, so will totally be making these pattern soon. 3rd, this seems pretty easy. (I skipped over this video many times, thinking it was too hard for me! I finally watched it, & was proven wrong.)
You can definitely do this Michelle! 😃🌻🌻
@@HookedbyRobin ok, so I watched the join-as-u-go video, I can't do that, but I don't mind doing up all the squares and then joining them.
🤗🤗
You are very welcome! :D xx
Love this my granddaughter would love it in sunflower
🥰🌻
Thanks for the help with puff stitches as I didn't know how. We all start somewhere with everything in life. Always good to learn something new...I'm enjoying crochet here in South Africa.
You’re welcome Rachel and I’m glad you are enjoying it.😃🌻
I saw your pattern from Jess on Roots and Refuge and I’m in love with it! I haven’t crocheted in a few years but your pattern has inspired me to pick up my hook again! Beautiful and now I have a new crochet pattern teacher!

I made a blanket with them!!!
Well done!🌻
For the first round there are 16 including the 1st one. Just noticed you mentioned 15 so you probably meant not including the 1st. Thank you for the great pattern.
came to the comments to make sure i didn't misunderstand something, because i definitely thought we're supposed to have 15 in total! thank you!
thank you!!! i thought i was going mad 😂❤❤
New subscriber - I use to crochet and just had emergency Spinal surgery with fusion so I am down for 10-12 weeks & saw this beautiful 🌻 pattern and want to start crocheting once again to give gifts to loved ones and for us.
Thank you and to

This was my first granny square since i was a kid it helped me so much. I made a boho tank top for mommy and daughter ❤
That sounds so lovely Ada! 😃🥰

Thank you so much for such a lovely comment!🥰🤗
This is such a cute granny square! I’m going to have to add it to my much-too-long future projects list! 😳☺️
Robin, this pattern is really gorgeous. I like the sunflower colors best as it is so cheerful. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you so much and so cheerful! 😃🧶
saw this first on fb i love this so beautiful
🥰🌻
I love your style of teaching. When I was teaching in a computer lab (those were a thing back in the 80’s) and I would tell the kids that if they made a mistake to STOP put your hands on you head and say “Oh No!”. This took their hands from the keyboard and gave them a moment to remember how to Zap the mistake by hitting command Z. As soon as you said STOP it took me back to those days and reminded me don’t just forge ahead when learning a new technique, count carefully before proceeding.😂
😅 Thank you so much!🧶
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! I'm definitely gonna attempt to make this, I love everything about it! This is PERFECT ✨
THANK YOU ❤️
🥰🥰🥰🌻

Thank you so much Emily for watching, I am glad it helps.😃

Thanks!
Thanks so much Juliet and so happy to hear you have come back to learning crochet - it is the best! 😃

I love this! I was immediately drawn to the join ! I would love to know how and what you used to create the beautiful edges throughout? Very nice work! Thank you for teaching 😃
I've had quite a few people ask about the join so I will make that my next video! 😀
The video for the join is here 😀 th-cam.com/video/W0-9A6ggtOk/w-d-xo.html
You are an amazing teacher !!! Thank u for teaching methods , I love them all .
Thank you so much Consuelo.🤗🧶 x
Very pretty 😘
Thank you! 🥰🌻
Looking forward to learning more from you.😊😊
I love the sunflower squares!! Do you have a tutorial how to join them together??
I don't have a tutorial for the exact join I used in my sunflower sample but can certainly film a tutorial for it 😀
@@HookedbyRobin yes please, that would be great!! Your join looks very neat!! Love it all!!!
@@sandraouaguena296 no problem! I've been asked on Facebook too so will definitely make it my next video 🙂
@@HookedbyRobin many thanks!!
The video for the join is here 😀 th-cam.com/video/W0-9A6ggtOk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks to this tutorial i was able to make my first granny square ever!!! I'm so happy finally i could understand and see! you teach so well and clear
My pleasure!😀 I am glad you managed your first granny square, well done.
As a new crocheter, this has been so helpful. I had to keep going back and then writing it down, but your explanations were fantastic. Thank you 😊
How do I calculate how much yarn in each color to buy? I really want to start this project. It's so beautiful!
I was going to ask this!
@@RoseabzillaEm I ended up buying one skein in each color, making squares and estimating what I would need.
Just found this video and you're a fantastic teacher. For an absolute beginner like me this is fantastic and I feel like I can do this. Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much! X
Can I use the magic ring to start?
Of course 😀
this is the first time i have ever crocheted anything! and this tutorial was wonderful and easy to follow! thank you!
🥰
Well then, I'll just have to make a cardigan now, about how big a square does this make with what size yarn and hook?🥰
My squares are approximately 5 inches using the chunky yarn and 6mm hook. I'm actually making a cardigan with the squares I show in the beginning and in the thumbnail! If you want slightly smaller squares for your cardigan you can use double knit yarn with a 4mm hook 😀
@@HookedbyRobin thanks! Hope you post the making of the cardigan, I'd love to see it 😍
Also you explain very clearly and slow especially for beginners, brillant.
Thank you!😃🌻
