Jim Lee is the GOAT! I grew up in the 90s when I started to get into comics and his artwork literally drew me into comics. I mean come on his work with X-MEN, Spiderman, Batman....the list goes on, everything he touches is gold. Todd McFarlane is definitely my second favorite.
Wow, thanks for posting this and all the other videos! What a resource! I missed this one but was onstage at his spotlight panel where I got your card! Thanks again!
Jim Lee panels are always tops. They're so insightful and you can learn so much but that experience felt truly out of this world! I look forward to you guys posting any other panels I may have missed. I was able to sit in on Ed McGuinness (and got his sketch!), Mark Brooks and Adam Hughes. I'm looking to fill some knowledge gaps with your videos :)
I won the marker set in that panel! I felt like the luckiest guy at SDCC. Mark Brooks and Adam Hughes are marker geniuses. I've been working with the set just trying to get the blending down! I'm going to submit an album cover to your hashtag on Twitter. Hope it shows up ;)
Thanks! Minor SNAFU with Auto-correct but I think i handled it. I apologize if you got bombed with a bunch of notifications. I didn't notice VZA became VGA until after I posted :(
***** It was pretty cool. He basically sketched characters that the audience shouted out then gave them away, answering questions all the while. Most of the questions weren't directly related to his drawing, so it was more of a "story time" type thing than an informative "workshop" or whatever.
***** I think he had already finished one when I got into the room (which was like 15-20 mins before the panel was supposed to start anyway lol!) but after I got there he did Wolverine, Harley Quinn, Aquaman, and .... hmm one other I can't remember right now for some reason. It was another woman character though.
I knew that the "S" Shield were fish shapes. I was a kid when I said that. Thanks for establishing that Jim Lee! :) Jeez, that kid at the end of the video lol
I'm convinced that if Jim Lee took a phat sh*t on a sheet of paper, it's look amazing, I honestly thought, "Oooww... this ain't lookin' to slick", and then I was proved extremely wrong, smh! Mr Lee is a legend for soo many different reason, he's definitely on of my favourite illustrators, alongside David Finch.
The more I see this, year after year, the greater I'm convinced Jim should do a how to draw video series or do some clinics about making comics. If he would do some kind of project or something to help upstarts, like the Gnomon Workshop, I will definitely purchase any material that's going to be available. Thankfully, there's VZA who's putting these videos for free.
***** You're an angel posting these videos. Has TH-cam threaten you by any chance to close your channel? If they are, count me in to protest. Keep doing it and Thanks again for your comment.
Out of everybody who draws superman i think he draws without a doubt THE BEST SUPERMAN imo. Also i think hes one of the few who can actually draw supermans new 52 suit and make it look good. When he draws the New 52 coustume. its the best superman coustume without a doubt. When others do it not so much. :)
Jim Lee has to be the most overrated comic book artist ever. His style has not changed, he has not evolved, in fact he has become even worse. There are many artists who have worked and are still working in comics who have tried to experiment with their style, they have tried new things. If you look at many you can see a definite progression from when they started to where they are now. Jim Lee has NEVER changed. He still draws all the same boring faces for men and women and his panels are tired and repetitive.
thank you as always for capturing jim lee's sessions.
34:25
Random Kid: "I WANT THOSE SKETCHES SO BAD"
Jim Lee "I Will be here the next year"
LOL!
poor him
I HAVE LOVED WATCHING EVERY VIDEO POSSIBLE OF JIM LEE DRAWING........I LOVE WATCHING JIM LEE DRAW
Jim Lee just shared this on his Facebook!! Great video thanks for filming it 👌
Victor, Thanks for sharing this. I learned quite a few drawing tips: Superman "S", shadow placement, micron rendering techniques, etc...
cartoonblock Eyyyyyyy
***** Con was great! Got some great drawing video to share with you guys of other artists. Plus got to see Hall H (without camping out :)
cartoonblock yea I like what I saw with the micron rendering. I can see this in his old 90's X-men comics.
I feel like Jim Lee should be doing DC movie cameos like Stan Lee does for Marvel LOL
Yess finally a new one! This man is a badass artist, love his work and way of teaching
Yesss!!! This was the main panel I wanted to see, so glad you captured it Vic, always appreciated.
Thank you, Adriana.
one of the best of all time
By far my favorite artist.

Jeez, that kid at the end of the video lol
THE MASTER AT WORK THANKS FOR POSTING
The pencils Jim is using are really good. They seem like the best pencils for drawing comics.
I totally knew the "S" Shield were like fish shapes. I said that when I was younger. Thanks, Jim Lee!
Jeez, that kid at the end of the video lol
This is great. While I'm trying to level up my Marvel Future Fight team, I discover latest Jim Lee flick. Good job on the filming Adriana!
"Looks like I've lost control of the drawing" then he adds a few more lines and suddenly, masterpiece lol. Only veterans like Jim

His Batman is great, But I think David Finch draws the best Bats.

***** I'm glad SDCC and DC entertainment are not stopping you in posting these videos. Thanks again.
I can't help but wonder if doing these drawings in front of a live audience is more stressful than drawing an entire comic book on a short deadline.
