  • Using Google Earth to find some fall Lake Trout spots turned into a very successful mission. It felt like every spot I went to held at least a couple of fish and some of the spots were loaded!! Super fun day!

    Hi Clayton i been going to athapap lake for 43 years and had a cottage at bakers narrows for over 40 second bridge in the bay going south , Im kind of a pro fisherman myself on that lake summer and fall , Here is a little pointer to use in the fall trout spawn run in september , On a cloudy day find your shallow reef 5-8 feet of water and anchor off to any side and cast on top with a dull colored spoon like 3 inches long treble hook , On a sunny day anchor right on top of the reef and cast out towards deeper water with a shiny spoon , Youll save gas its much more peaceful , Take it easy !

    Definitely a fan of G-earth / Satellite Imagery on mobile mapping.
    Paying attention to depths / contours is huge, pair that with the good old weather app for wind direction & you can get a solid idea of where a lot of species might be.
    With a quick 15 min & a pan of the area you get a good feeling of it... it’s either yup I’m digg’in it or nope I’m not feeling this spot.
    👍 good vid

    satellites(dot)pro has all of them, google, bing, and 5 more you can find a spot and cycle the source map as some have better maps of different areas. Awesome tips Clayton, especially working up to the hump not trying to start there, that's what she said?

      @jam1324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ClaytonSchickOutdoors Oh I may have been mistaken and maybe it doesn't have Bing, I swore it did. I can't confirm where Apple and bing source their maps from but it's still very handy being able to switch through multiple map sources in one click and stay on the same map spot! The Mapbox source makes some weird colour enhancements on their maps which I find makes some shoals pop. The more data and info we have at our fingertips the more knowledge we can arm ourselves with before we get on the water!

    I think the added action and extra depth made the 360GT Swimmer version remarkably more productive for walleye for me this summer. The 4.5” 1/4oz was a go to lure for me this year. A new favourite for sure. Also like the single hook for C&R too. I do a lot of trolling with Raps and I’ve started choosing models with fewer hooks just for simplicity’s sake.

    Also try using bing maps. My opinion its higher definition than google.
    But more to that its a different satellite image. You'd be amazed at what one satellite will miss and the other will pick up.
    Google tends to pick up the botom contours better but bing can actually pick up deep cabbage beds for pike.

    Awesome Clayton! :) I loved fall fishing on Big Athapap when I was younger. I'm surprised you didn't hit into any bigger trout milling around but I'm guessing the bigger ones went back down a bit in the deeper waters. I'd be curious as to what the water temps were when you fished? Less than a week or two ago? With the cooler temps we have had recently I'd imagine the trout have spawned and worked back down a bit minus the "quick biters" as I call the 20 - 26 inchers. Did you make another trout video as you talked about in the end of this one? I hope you did and I hope you hooked into a big lunker?
