I’m stoked! The chickens at last!! If you put wooden eggs in the hatching boxes that helps train them. They also need oyster shells to aid in digestion. Have fun and thanks for saving them!
Relocate the water dish further away from the roosting sticks and food to help reduce waste in the water. I agree that the lethargic chicken should be isolated from the rest and don’t eat the other’s eggs until there are no signs of worms (in poo or eggs), or for at least a week after finishing any medication routines. Many chickens won’t lay if you are in their space, so if you see one or more in the laying boxes just leave them be for a while. The decoy egg in the boxes is a good tactic to employ, even though your chickens do seem to understand what it is for. You could try small chunks of the watermelon in the smaller birds’ feed dish. Chickens are very much ‘static’ object animals. They get used to food dish or water in an area and you can move it two feet away and they will either adapt or stand in the place it used to be and squawk about you trying to starve them 🤣 A tablespoon of white vinegar to a gallon of water helps keep the waterer from growing algae and aids in the birds’ digestion. These are things that help my flock flourish, and hopefully can be beneficial to you as well.
Where I grew up, in Iowa, we called them paper wasps. They build the honeycomb type nests. There may be others kinds that do that as well. Nice chickens. I like the sounds they make. Thank you Post10.☮️💖🎶
A couple things... I'm no chicken expert, but the sick hen needs to see the vet, and she needs to be put into quarantine. First, so if she's contagious, the other hens don't get sick, and second, because chickens will peck a sick hen to death. I love chickens! I would have some if it was allowed where I live. I used to spend hours watching the chickens when I was a kid. Please keep us updated on the chicken world! 💖💖💖
You are right-chickens are prone to cannibalism especially toward a sick or injured one. The chicken in the video is staying up high to avoid being pecked to death, literally. She should be isolated until she recovers from whatever malady she has. Also, the nests need some sawdust or shavings to make them more inviting and to provide cushion for eggs. Those "rollaway" nests usually only work well with "Cage" type laying arrangements where the chickens have no choice where to lay their eggs. Chickens need to see the 'product' of their efforts!
Missy starting the 'ba-GAWKing' at 3:55 is telling the hen in the box to hurry up and lay because SHE needs to lay; that is the egg song. I love to hear it! Pumpkin/seeds = excellent dewormer!
Your coop looks a little small,we recommend about 40 square feet for up to 10 chickens. I love chickens, had them all my life. Make your fencing strong and sturdy and get that sick chicken out and checked, you could infect your whole coop. Have fun!
No not really. You can get automatic water and feed, so you can be out of town. They eat just about any leftover. Just every once in a while, shovel out the floor of the coop. And make sure predators can't get in
A solid watermelon!and the chickens are like ,"what is this thing?a ball?where's the watermelon? "Than it gets cut they are like" oh there's the watermelon it was hiding from us!"😆
Hi,,the coop that has the sleds on it is called a chicken trailer the sleds is so that every other day or so you can easily move them to grassy ares so the can find bugs & eat some grass,,,if you are wanting chickens to pick up on laying eggs the need laying pellets ,& don't forget to keep them supplied with a sorce of gravel they sell it with the feeds for chickens but they need it to properly digest food,,& good yolks & shells needs a sorse of protein,,like from bugs when moving them around & mill worms,, good luck with your chickens 😊
As a townie all my life, love this little vlog. Lot of labour & love needed, but I sooooo love eggs. Poached on hot buttered toast, salt & pepper......
What a nice surprise to come onto youtube after a short absence and see you've got chickens!! I love them, my gran had hens for years until she got too old to give them the care they needed. Look forward to following the... chicken journey? And i'm sure others have mentioned it, but keeping on top of odd behaviour (symptoms of illness, especially scary ones like bird flu) are a must, though i'm sure you'll take great care of them.
You are doing great so far with your chickens. I am not surprised! You are a compassionate person! The chickens can tell, too. They are so sweet. The babies might be old enough to house with the older ones. They learn a lot from the adults. I am not an expert, tho. I watch White House on the Hill here on YT. They have a farm with lots of birds! I can't wait to see more of the chickens!
Chickens are funny to watch and the eggs are soooooooooooo much better than store bought the taste is totally different reminds me of the taste when I was a kid in the 60's & 70's
This was very cool and interesting to watch. I hope they all prosper, and I wonder if the stationary chicken is blind? Or maybe antisocial? I know nothing about chickens so I'm just guessing
Look into "poultry net" portable electric fencing. You can move the chickens into new areas and rest assured predators will not get your birds. Ive been using poultry net and converted an old horse trailer into a chicken coop. Works great.
Between the tadpoles and the chickens, you might need to trellis up a couple extra vines next planting season if you want to have enough watermelon for everybody! 😄 A few cloth slings will support the growing melons and keep them from breaking the vines with their own weight; just gotta make sure the trellis is good and sturdy. It's a joy to see your animals, Post10; they're so happy and vibrant. It's obvious you take excellent care of them all.
Honestly, with the water, I find our chickens don't even drink that much. We live in a pretty similar area to you guys, at least in terms of temp and humidity, and they barely ever drink the 2l bowl we have for them (looks about the same size your water feeder). That said, ours can roam and scavenge outside so they might get more water there but I wouldn't stress about giving them too much. Coop looks great dude, can't wait to see them running around
They need a separate grit box as they need it in the crop to digest their food, also I would have a deeper water dish as they don't suck the water up they have to scoop it up and lift their heads so it runs down their throat. I also wouldn't over do the water melon etc its a good source of moisture they like it but too much can give them the runs and could make soft shelled eggs
Hope you got a big run for them..thats a warning call there is something outside, they have a very keen sense of smell...put grit in there for them or you get soft shell.
They do lose their feathers each year and they come back in.. the black chicken up high might be egg bound.. good items to feed chickens, fatback, red pepper flakes it helps with parasites I believe, extra calcium, and many other items
I cant wait for more chicken videos and updates! Is this a new property? I must have missed a lot of stuff (not that it's my business of course). Is your vegetable garden still going?
Nice to have some more different content. Hopefully it will not hold you back on your main 'job' getting rid of blockages and going around with your car in the woods. This because these animals require almost daily care.
Have you stopped doing the unclogging of street drains??? I used to love the street drains and some of the culverts, trash racks, and ditches. I feel like you are testing a new format.
The water feeder is more for younger chicks. Also i would isolate the sick chickens as it can spread sharing the water and food. The one you call cheeks looks like a cockeral. Bantams are more placid. They will eat the watermelon, given time. You want to make sure you wash your hands before going in between the adults and chicks.
So this is an video idea, maybe for the other channel: Feed the chickens different food for a while and then look & taste the eggs to find out how the chickens' diet affects the eggs.
The brown chicken looks like a 'Barnevelder', a breed 'we' dutch 'invented'. So I'm a little bit proud she's your favourite and also the most friendly of the lot.
I know I’ve been seeing some chicken videos from you for awhile now. Maybe it was on your other channel or this video just might be out of order. I know that one of the white hens was sick. Is it doing any better? I hope it is🤞🏻🐓. I didn’t know anything about the “sleepy” chicken. All of the hens making noise takes me back to when I was a kid growing up on our farm. Thanks Post. Have a Great Weekend Everyone. ✌🏻❤️👩🏻🦱
Gotta admit, when the chickens started sqocking i turned on the caption/subtitles just to see if youtube translated their conversations. Kinda did. At 3:55 it says "laughter" LOL
I’m stoked! The chickens at last!!
If you put wooden eggs in the hatching boxes that helps train them. They also need oyster shells to aid in digestion. Have fun and thanks for saving them!
Oyster shell or other calcium supplements are also important for laying hens to keep their calcium levels up for stronger egg shells☺👍

Maybe isolate that 'sleepy' chicken and monitor its health? 🐔
Where I grew up, in Iowa, we called them paper wasps. They build the honeycomb type nests. There may be others kinds that do that as well. Nice chickens. I like the sounds they make. Thank you Post10.☮️💖🎶
There is a hornet nest-busting guy who feeds all the nests with larvae to their chickens. They love it!
I like chickens. This is a great video

Wow. That's a good deal you got on them chickens! Must be s lot of work to take care and maintain?
No not really. You can get automatic water and feed, so you can be out of town. They eat just about any leftover. Just every once in a while, shovel out the floor of the coop. And make sure predators can't get in
This is a treat for them and for me!
They couldn't smell it without you breaking it open. I knew they would like it. 😁 LOVE THIS VIDEO.. hope you do more. 👍
nice to see that you are following Cody's lab tracks
I'd love to see more of your animals! Keep it up!
A solid watermelon!and the chickens are like ,"what is this thing?a ball?where's the watermelon? "Than it gets cut they are like" oh there's the watermelon it was hiding from us!"😆
Nothing like free eggs.
"Free" except for the cost of chickens, feed, dewormer, coop, etc., and work put into it!
@@lorizeppelina2286Yeah you'll never remake the money
Chicken watching 😮no , but I did and pleased wasn't so bad. Got new take on those critters 😊
Does your veterinarian accept chickens? Some do. Could you. Take sleepy one to vet?

The older I get more I realize this is truly the good life !
No way! You were already living my dream life out there in the forest and now you got chickens as well? Very cool, I love chickens!
The squawks of approval💕🙏🐔
To them, watermelon tastes like chicken...🍉

Cool you got chickens. I have some to.
Crooning chickens ♥️😊love the sound of. You such a great animal person ♥️

I like this video and I learned that chickens have personalities !
Gorgeous hens. 🕊
Neat coup! Now you need to do a garden and grow food for them!
Very cute chooks as they say in Australia. 😎🇨🇦😎

Thanks Post! 👊🏻🐔🍉👍🏻 Appreciate you my friend 🙏🏻
Definitely get some hardware cloth on the bottom of that chicken wire! Chicken wire stops chickens, but not raccoons.
Ha ha , different content but love it
I cant wait for more chicken videos and updates! Is this a new property? I must have missed a lot of stuff (not that it's my business of course). Is your vegetable garden still going?
You need a few more laying boxes. Get yourself an old piece of linoleum for the floor, it’ll make clean outs much easier.
Chickens do not sleep in the nesting boxes. We could probably get away with just two of them. They only go in there to lay. An egg and then leave
Nice to have some more different content. Hopefully it will not hold you back on your main 'job' getting rid of blockages and going around with your car in the woods. This because these animals require almost daily care.
This made me go in my fridge and cut open my watermelon 🍉 😅
Glad you are having chickens 🐓 now. I guess it helps that you have a partner to assist you.
@post 10 , Will you be showing more of Mr. Tonka anytime soon? Chickens are hilarious glad to see them thriving :)
Have you stopped doing the unclogging of street drains??? I used to love the street drains and some of the culverts, trash racks, and ditches. I feel like you are testing a new format.
I did not stop, but those videos are very embarrassing to those cities, so they now prevent it because of the amount of views they get

Red-Wasp, or Paper Wasp makes the small cone shaped nests
I hear the Chilcotin river has a bit of a clog going at the moment - don't suppose you can help them clear it up? Imagine the whirlpool...
Have a look into Choline, it's an essential nutrient for chickens and they can get it from grass, wheat grass, broccoli etc
💚
My chickens love watermelon. I do bust it open first.
Great video! I feel bad for the chicken that’s by itself. Hope she gets better soon.
damn, I was planning are BBQing chicken legs today :( guess I'll save them for tomorrow lol
Nice chicks. Did you cancel the trip out west this summer?
I don't he ever said he would this year?
Honeycomb type nests are paper wasps.
Good lookin chooks!
Did you get the chickens at his farm pets or did you get them to eat them
Just for eggs as they are not meat chickens except the big one
Sweet. 🐔🍉
So this is an video idea, maybe for the other channel: Feed the chickens different food for a while and then look & taste the eggs to find out how the chickens' diet affects the eggs.
I think the black chicken is sick. 😢
Been waiting for this!!!
Some veterinarians will take care of pet chickens. Could you take the sleepy one to vet?
I heard of a guy that freezes all his Japanese beetles that he collects and feeds them to his chickens
That's cute.
There's a big clog in Canada that needs your attention.
The brown chicken looks like a 'Barnevelder', a breed 'we' dutch 'invented'. So I'm a little bit proud she's your favourite and also the most friendly of the lot.

Is there any way to determine a rooster from a hen - when they are still baby-peeps ?

How often in a day do you collect the eggs

is this like a kobe beef type thing?
wonder are their eggs tastier..
Is the white one that "had snot" the one from the lice bath shorts? Or is she still in quarantine?
This was before any of that.
@post.10 so different chicken, hope she's doing well
Absolute cuties.
You can't help but watch a video called "Chicken Watermelon Feast."
Hi Post 👋
NO rooster?
Do you have a rooster?
They need grit for making eggs. Just didn't see any is why I mentioned it. Never seen a chicken sleep in the day before. Trust she comes around.
Aloha 🌺🥰
Dang she had a lot to say.. Chill girl….🙃
Watermelon flavored chicken. I feel like there is a joke in there somewhere. Something that could get me a 24 hour ban.
🤣 most definitely.....
bruh your dino nuggies are still movin
European Paper Wasp 25:35
Yellow jacket
Please put some more straw into the nesting areas.
It doesn't really matter and it clogs up the mechanism to roll the eggs to safety
@@post.10You have a lot to learn about making chickens happy.
