What a performance!! George Thorogood and Elvin Bishop throwing down! What's next?!

Doesn't get much better than Handsome George and Elvin Bishop to tear down on some boogie blues. This is an epic performance, not just because Elvin is playing with him, but he did improvise much of this, but it is actually 2 songs in one..I know I'm going to mess this spelling up lol...The Houseman Blues/One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer...I've seen between 30 and 40 concerts in my 60 years, Seeing George live is high on the best concert list...3 solid hours of them jamming the best boogie music you can find...and that sax player, just phenomenal.

The lyrics George used are a medley from House Rent Boogie and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by John Lee Hooker and of course ad-libs. So happy you got to this amazing performance.

Years ago I went to a Thorogood concert in RI he was the original party concert, first he played as the only act for 2 1/2 hours with like 1 stoppage and he expects everyone to have fun, when he played one of his songs the crowd stopped dancing and he stopped the show until everyone got back on the floor. He is an awesome guitar player

Born and raised in Delaware.. it's George and the Delaware Destroyers.. love it.. Delaware doesn't get much credit for anything more than being the First State.. but we have George. There was a place in Newark DE.. the Stone Balloon. that George would play all the time.. I was too young to ever see him.. sad about that.

He's got a song called I Drink Alone that tells a great story too. I was a sophomore in high school and hanging out with seniors. Our main place for drinking was Murph's house. His bedroom was the finished basement and his parents rarely came down there. One night we had a good party and 3 of us ended up staying there and passing out. Murphy was sleeping in one of the chairs and morning came too quick. I knew it was morning because Murph's mom was waking him up asking what happened the night before. I only cracked my eyes open because I didn't want to be involved in this conversation. He mumbled a few things, obviously still drunk from the night before, as was I. She then demanded to know the names of all the people that were there drinking. Without missing a beat, Murph opened his eyes, turned his head to her and didn't say, but sung, "I drink alone, yea-ah, with nobody else". I wanted to laugh so hard but I kept my composure and continued faking sleep. Although that didn't matter because we all got woke up and kicked out anyway. 😂

I saw George live in Flint, MI in May 1986. He was the only guitarist and played all the leads. I'm sure he tailors the song to the city he is in. I still have my shirt from that concert, but is seems to have shrunk over the past almost 40 years. The show was a hell of a good time.

I’ve seen George twice in concert, probably 15 years apart. He and going with my stepdad and brother was an amazing concert. The second time, he was hilarious. A handful of times he would stand at the edge of the stage, arms spread open just to receive accolades. It was great.

Had the pleasure of seeing George and the Destroyers on Halloween night. Man came out dressed as a guerilla, and the rest of the band were all in costume too, one came out of a huge trashcan and handed George his guitar and away we went....needless to say I caught his slide that night. Incredible show for a small theater stage.

I knew you would like this. What Nyxi_Nyx wrote below explains that it's a combination of two songs. George was heavily influenced by the Blues and a few people in particular, like John Lee Hooker. GT did alter lyrics to fit with whatever city he was in. He's actually a great guitar player and you are correct, he is charismatic af, lol. The band is awesome and especially great when they need to constantly adapt/follow the lead. Just a fun tune!!

Hey dude! I never was a huge fan of GT, but this song always cracks me up. It's not that he's not talented, but he just never set me on fire. (We're terrible guitar snobs at my house. My late husband used to shudder when he talked about getting tickets for a Steve Miller show-Eric Johnson opened. Yeah. For me, it's been Queen since I was 10, so...) It's not fair-seems like every song of his I've heard has been around for 40 years. Must be me. As far as I know, this is not his song, but def his interpretation. "But I was tired!" kills me every time. Love your channel!

This is great, but its because I've heard the studio version on the radio so much that I understand when George is ad-libbing. This is an old John Lee Hooker tune. Saw George twice once as a headliner on the Born to be Bad tour. Once opening for ZZ-Top on the Haircut tour. He was amazing both times. Highly recommend seeing him if you ever have the means. This version has a medley of the song House Rent Blues at the beginning also a song by John Lee Hooker. I guess Rudy Toombs originally wrote this song, Hooker popularized it.

This is what I would call a loose interpretation of the original song. Elvin is not on the studio track so his parts were def an addition and George did go "off script" throughout. Some did seem improvised on the spot but there's no way I can know what is practiced and what is just made up on the fly. Either way, it's a banger of a song and this performance was insane. George didn't do a lot of shredding here but believe me, he is a bad man with that guitar. I seen him around this time frame - Bad To The Bone tour - and it was fire!!!
I went searching for another live vid from George and I found one called Reelin And Rockin from 1981. I never heard the song before. Don't know if it's a cover but it is a certified banger, for sure. George tears that guitar up and has moves I didn't know he had. Holy cow, I hope you can get to this one, Steven!! Shewee!! I'm a little shook from just watching it right now.

One of the best double bills I've ever seen was when George & the Destroyers opened for the J.Geils Band at Madison Square Garden in the early 80's . Not THAT was a Party ! 🙂 George has awlays had a great sense of humor . On the back of his debut album is a photo of him on stage with a sign that read of his then 3 piece band , "The Worlds First 3 man Quartet" or something along those lines 🙂

My pops grew up with George and knows him and the Delaware Destroyers very well…whenever he was around the Baltimore area he’d come over and we’d eat crabs…really good man..at one of those crab feasts we had Billy Gibbons was there along with George…knew Zappa too…he was a roadie and knew a lot of those guys through that..I have a pic of Frank Zappa pretending to put me in the oven when I was like a yr old…lol

Great live performance, however you should listen to the studio version for a cleaner, crisper version of a great song

Best way for you to find out what's improvised react to the studio version and the story is not improvised.. It's all on the album.
