Hello everyone, I'm Haley Watson, the director of Motorcycle Mary. If you have any questions about the film, please feel free to ask! I will do my best to answer as many as possible. Thank you!
An incredible portrait of an incredible woman. Thank you for helping her tell her story! Is there anything you learned from her that you think is important that wasn't able to be included in the film?
@@matthewhabib3818 Great question. Mary had many great lessons. on in particular was that she had the amazing ability to not dwell on negativity. If she felt like she was at the end of something negative, or even in instances when I asked her about her career, where she faced direct discrimination due to her gender, she moved on from it quickly and never let someone else's opinion overtake her outlook.
I had the opportunity to share a dinner table with MARY at a benefit, honoring Bob Bondurant at the Riverside Museum. I was not aware of what MARY had accomplished until we began to tell stories and after about five minutes, I stopped talking and just listened to her for the rest of the evening what an incredible lady and such class I’m so thankful I had an opportunity to meet her and visit.
That choked me up a lot more than I expected. Thank you, for being a ceiling-busting badass, Mary. And thank you Haley and the rest of the team for making sure this was documented and shared. 👊
I met Mary when I was racing Vintage Motocross in Arizona. She was the coolest, upbeat person I ever knew. I had her sign my trophy. She will never be forgotten.
What a beautiful soul she had. I had the privilege of being Facebook friends with her and messaging with her. She will be greatly missed but what a legacy she has left!
Oh how I will miss Mary! What an inspiration, and a funny, generous person. This film really captures her warmth and humor, and her accomplishments. I was lucky to host her at our events, where she inspired so many women and men. Love you Mary.
I remember when they did a F1 grid interview with her not too long ago and learned about her. I wish they did more grid interviews with people like this! Props to Lewis Hamilton too for helping to produce it.
This is one of the best stories I've watched anywhere. To see her recall her life with such joy and pride is infectious. I hope to look back on my life one day with the same fondness. Rest in Peace Mary.
Amazing story! Director Haley Watson really captured Mary's incredible spirit. Mary McGee is an inspiration to us all, male and female. Two quotes stuck with me. "Stay calm, twist the throttle" and "You are participating in life." Words to live by. ❤
Heard of Malcolm Smith's passing yesterday and tried to find stuff about him, and stumbled on this movie about Mary McGee, what a life ! What a woman. She sure got everything out of life ! WOW ! Thanks for putting her on a pedestal, she deserves that.
Outstanding film. You have preserved and important story about an important American, and clearly touched more people than you know. I'm one of them. Thank you.
I had the great fortune of having Mary as a neighbor growing up. She was awesome, and the older I get, the more I realize what I learned from her. I can’t express how glad I am that a documentary was finally made about her incredible story. ❤
I count among my blessings to have interviewed, written an article and later to have met Mary. Saw her several times after that and she always had a great smile and a positive attitude. I in a huge group of folks that will miss her.
What a wonderful lady! ...and what a fabulous, supportive, and protective big brother! 'So sad that Mary and the world lost him so young! Rest in peace, Mary and Jim McGee! 🇨🇦 🍁 🇺🇸 🌎 🇺🇲 🌵 🌴 🌵 🇺🇸 🌎 🇺🇲 🍁 🇨🇦
Grateful people will now get to hear and see about a magnificent person who practically no younger person has ever heard of, a true American icon & original!
I too have raced (karts/motorcycles/sports cars) and followed motorsports since the 60s. It says a lot about our male dominated world that neither of us knew of her. Come on world, we can do better than this. Mary is an inspiration even after her passing. Lucky are those who got to know her!
A woman so unpretentious that one would never know how, if you knew who she was, what she had accomplished, and how fearless humble and genuine she was in real life... Someone who after spending 15 minutes talking to her you'd feel as thought you knew her for forever. "Be calm and twist the throttle." - Mary McGee
I had an hour or so... It was surreal @@BlueSkyCrystals I came from a very extensive list of the "Who's who" in racing and the business. As I mentioned their names, to include my father, she simply replied, "I knew him..." I was trying to think how it was possible that I did not know of her...
What an amazing life and video, thank you for sharing. I can’t wait to share with my kids, even if they don’t end up riding, the life lessons alone are worth it.
Beautiful and inspiring story! I was truly inspired by Mary McGee and her courage to participate in life, to live her best life. What a fun life! I will remember to take a breath. Thank you for this wonderful story about a brilliant and amazing woman who listened to her heart. Peace and love to and for ALL sentient beings!
Mary Rocked! Both of my girls are in Heaven, I’ve thought about what they would have done & became? I’ve ridden motorcycles since the 70s so I met both their mother’s owning a motorcycle. Thank you for the story!
Fabulous work on this, Haley -- was really well done -- would have been great to have met Mary. I appreciate you documenting Mary's wonderful achievements and legacy -- would love to see and hear more! steve
People of her generation were some of the finest, they didn't give up, they soldiered through, not expecting instant gratification. Course there are people of this quality today, too.

Such an awesome person. So cool her first race was with the American federation of motorcyclists. This is the AFMs 70th anniversary. Such cool history.
I have been involved with motorcycles for over 50 years and can't believe I never heard of this incredible woman. Today I learned of her passing away and did a search and found your wonderful documentary.
I watched this because I'm a big F1 fan and read that Sir Lewis was involved in its production. My grandfather owned an Indian motorcycle shop, and my father and his male siblings raced. My uncle (father's brother) was killed in a TT race. I always wondered why and how they kept racing. Thanks for answering that question. p.s. I raced (amateur) for 10 years, and instruct at track events. My most important task is to make sure my students stay relaxed. The better you relax - the better you feel what the car is doing. Now I'll think of Mary taking her deep breath.
