      Bards are actually far cooler than that. They go out seeking epic adventures to write plays and songs about. They deserve to be a full-fledged faction, with fully playable instruments and song writing on top of that.

    I always hated the way dawnguard was set up. You never really feel like a vampire hunter. One quest and you ally with a vampire already for the whole dlc. You never really get the chance to actually be out there hunting down vampires with a hatred for them or anything like that. I doubt we’re that lucky. After two dumb downed mainline games (Skyrim < Oblivion, fallout 4 < fallout 3) and fallout 76, I’m growing nervous about Bethesda’s future games. It’s taking longer between releases without large increases in quality equal to their competitors while dumbing down game mechanics and player choice. Keeping it simple is a good philosophy for a school essay, not for a AAA rpg that’s been released over a decade from its predecessor. I’m worried this dumbing down of their games will become a trend. Hopefully I’m wrong.

    • @semperk1482
      @semperk1482 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waterloo32594 The trend for AAA RPG games is not to make a good game anymore, it's to make a bad game and then make the consumer pay on top of that for a completed game. IE Total War Warhammer series where all the most interesting factions are blocked behind a paywall, even though the base game is quite good, each iteration feels empty without the paid factions. Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Odyssey is also a good example of this, where they force the player to pay real money in the ingame cash shop for even reasonable progression. I am sure that Redfall will have microtransactions or something ridiculous. If Bethesda makes a great singleplayer game, they will be breaking the mold. Inb4 the "Why would you want Redfall to fail?" I don't, I'm just cautiously optimistic that they will make a good game that isn't just a cash grab. On top of this we are looking at huge economic turmoil in the coming years for the U.S. economy which will impact the entire world much worse than the hyper-inflation in the upcoming months, the U.S. Fed reserve raising interest rates in 2023 (As they have stated, but considering the rate of inflation increasing every month its bound to happen sooner) will affect the global economy on a level we haven't seen in decades. Bethesda will do whatever they can to monetize on top of everything, just in an attempt to survive as a company in a volatile economy.

    A pirates guild, Orsinium/Orc clans, and Reachmen clans are probably the factions I am the most interested in Bethesda exploring even if they aren't major factions and are not joinable, it would be cool to just interreact with them, kind of like the minor factions in FNV like the Great Khans or Boomers. Also, after the release of the Markarth dlc for eso, playable Reachmen would be pretty nice Todd, just add sub races/cultures to TES 6 and just make them an sub race option for Bretons or something.

    This would be my ideal faction breakdown. 1) You have a Binary main faction split where you have to choose a side pretty early in the main story. 2) The traditional Thief, Warrior, Assassin, Mage guild that doesn't effect the main story and your early choice has no effect on your ability to join. Each should be a Binary pair where you can join an opposing faction. 3) Minor factions like kingdoms or so forth where gaining influence in 1 drops influence in the others to the point it could effect things such as bounties, prices at vendors, and even quests available. 4) A joinable Vigilant faction that allows you to seek out and destroy a Daedric Prince's existing Champion and artifact rather than just becoming a Prince's Champion yourself. Also the idea of conflict between Prince's granting greater rewards by taking out a rival's champion or preventing you from becoming the champion of 2 Prince's in conflict would be great.

    “Fighting” guilds have great potential in elder scrolls 6. I like the idea of having guilds reflect not only your play style but your morality choices. There could be a hedge Knight faction that would emphasize traveling to the various lords of High rock, and the quest lines would reflect the more “bodyguard” style of play. Compare that to a hammerfell mercenary faction that leaves morality to the wind and are a little more brutal. Even offer us a bandit guild that mixes aspects of the thieves guild with the companions. So many things to do here.

    The single most important/desired thing about faction for me is for the faction to be itself and treat you like a normal member.
    In each faction you show up and barley do anything before being wisked away to do the major questline. You don't get to do any jobs, contracts, or lessons unless it's a side job. I would prefer Oblivions thevies guild system were you do side jobs till you get a special job to advance the story. That system would work well for all factions.

    My prediction for factions in Elder Scrolls 6:

    - Thalmor
    - Thieves Guild
    - Dark Brotherhood
    This should be 100% accurate, unless they will focus on Akavir, or Athmora (but this is only 1% chance to happen). But we should be getting Hammerfell for 100% base on hints that Bethesda gave us from Nazeem, "In My Time of Need" quest, Kodlak Whitemane past, and finally Nazir character. Plus they really want to make up for The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard game, and follow the global trends of latest movements.

      @@noodles1595 its called "virtue signalling". Its when a company or another institution sends covert or overt messages of a political nature or use symbolism of that nature. This can be a honest postitioning of the companies leadership or just an attempt to maximise profit and reach new customerbases. Often its probably a mixture of both.
      Even if Bethesda does not pick hammerfell for the skincolour of the inhabitants it will still be visible in the games marketing campain and have a (most probably) positive impact on sales and reception. So from the view of a company its pretty unlikely they wont go with that choice. They have the possiblity to send a political message that is highly agreeable while having the possibility to make a great game in a fascinating setting, why shouldnt they?

      I'm not saying that it's wrong or anything to have "political/social messages" that align with the current time that the media was made/released. I think it's impossible to not make any kinds of media unrelated to the real world. It what makes these fictional worlds 'real' and relatable to us.
      But I don't think at all, that Highrock/Hammerfell was chosen (if it actually is...) because of any current world issues. I think it just makes sense, as it has been a long time since the game was centred around that region of Tamriel.

    For TES VI, they could have dividing factions based on playstyles...for example Mage’s Guild is now College of Whispers or the Synod, the Fighter’s Guild has a more moral and less moral faction etc...maybe the Thieves Guild and the DB are shaped by the player (although the Morag Tong somehow appearing could be cool)...there could also be Major and Minor Factions, Minor ones would have less quests, this would avoid disappointment (like say with the Bard’s College)...it would also give BGS a chance to have some cool province inspired factions that have a short questline

  • @lind1198
    @lind1198 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I personally think in regards to guilds that when there are multiple guilds for the same playstyle ex. Mercenary Band & Knightly Order then there doesn't need to be a branching story but if the guild is more general like a Thieves Guild then there absolutely needs to be branching paths even just two or three. Ideally, though, there would be a multitude of differing guilds for each playstyle with branching story paths.
    An example of locking you out of a faction is Morrowind's Fighters Guild Quest, the Code Book where if you finish the quest not being a part the Thieves Guild you are locked out of their questline forever.

    But how about this for an idea… player death, after a long time of course, and potential for raising your child to be future player. Helping build the stats up etc.

    There are a lot of missed opportunities for extra factions in Skyrim. On my first playthrough when I started the Lights Out quest for the Blackblood Marauders, I really thought that I was going to be able to join a company of bandits.
    They even did a mini-Daedra faction with the followers of Namira.
    They also totally missed the opportunity to let the player reject all the Daedra, and join the Vigilants of Stendarr to hunt out and safeguard Daedric artifacts.

    Faction choice locking out other factions on a playthrough has worked in games such as Dragon Age. Hell, it even played out to a certain extent in Morrowind!
    What I think would be a really interesting addition would be if joining one faction created a storyline that would bring you into conflict with an opposing guild (you can even point to how this worked with Fighters' Guild vs Thieves' Guild in Morrowind). THAT would make for some very interesting replayability

    If they end up using Hammerfell and High Rock for ES6, they should build out 2 versions of each standard guild/faction for the game; one for each area. For example, maybe the High Rock fighters guild faction is more dark and the Hammerfell FG faction is more noble. That way Bethesda could keep the factions linear yet players could design builds based on role-playing choices and travel back and forth between provinces and create a multi-faction character that fits what they're looking for.

    Honestly, somewhere through the podcast you reminded me of what I expected from Fallout New Vegas after reading some promo material. That Helios One would be your mid game/endgame reward where you take over and have to defend it and chose how to manage the power supply to keep the factions happy enough to bit kick you out while you turn the plant into your own faction. And honestly I kind of want that for TES6, where the main choices in shaping the region are centres on your faction, and you can ally with as many of the guilds as you want but you only get big bonuses if you don't play to all sides

    An example of a good way in which factions could overlap but still have choices would be: say theres a staff of magnus that you need for both the mage faction and thief faction. If the mages get it first from a tomb or something, maybe the thief mission will be altered to sneak in and steal it from the mage guild. If the thieves get it first, perhaps the mages need to purchase it from an informant or fulfill a mission for them. Both factions could continue on but the quests adapt. Mainly wanted to post this so my thoughts are somewhere

    In the end, I think I'd prefer multiple factions for each playstyle, with different attitudes (for example: one fighting guild like a knightly order, and another that is more like thuggish mercenaries), over steering that single faction in a certain direction. I would want plenty of choices on how to do things in quests though, as well as a smaller role (not being the chosen one all the time) and slower build-up towards that final climax

  • @adamkellythorn1141
    @adamkellythorn1141 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with the comments re an increased variety of guilds/cults/groups. Sometimes I want to play a Knightly Paladin type build (standard), sometimes a daedric cultist, sometimes a Holy Healer type build (Mara affiliated). Having the ranking system from Oblivion to show your progression would be so good as well! I would also like their to be one main base of operations for guilds, but have mini outposts in a few other locations.
    But equally I want some larger consequences from the decisions I make in the game. I want exteriors to change their appearance and I want factions to change control of towns etc.

    • @adamkellythorn1141
      @adamkellythorn1141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To follow on, when I talk about consequences I’m not talking about a new flag being raised and a couple of synths walking around an outpost in the middle of no where. I want real, tangible consequences and aesthetics changes. If I topple a High Rock kingdom and it gets taken over I want the banners to change, the guards armour to change, I want some of the shops to change owners, maybe the chapel gets dedicated to a different Aedra... etc etc

    • @adamkellythorn1141
      @adamkellythorn1141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Final point (from spamming the comments section). It would be nice for there to be lots of little side quests for the daedric princes, some of them interact with each other where you have to favour one over another, and then in the background there could be a notoriety system in place (similar yet less drastic to New Vegas), so that you can elevate the notoriety of a daedric prince or Aedric god. And then you can have background NPC convos mentioning them depending on how well known each of these mini-factions are.
      All things I’d like to see not sure what I will or won’t see though! 😆

      That could be interesting, however it would have to align with the guilds values. For example, you'd only get a jailbreak if you've joined the Thieves guild or Dark brotherhood. Or if you're in a fight with some bandits or other enemies in a dungeon or fort, the mercenaries guild could come to your aid at random from time to time, sort of like the mysterious stranger in Fallout, but more organic.

    • @thomasrice3373

    • @lazilycatharticone4191
      @lazilycatharticone4191 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thomasrice3373 I'm thinking something more along the lines of what Rdr2 did with Jailbreaks. Imagine sitting in your cell, with a guard mocking you and all of the sudden you see a hand creep over his mouth while the other is slitting his throat. Then the Darkbrotherhood, let say Vezara (the Argonian) unlocks the cell and tells you to follow him out quietly. Say if you're Thieves guild, Vex flirts with the guard then knocks him out or Brynolf bribes/persuades the guards to set you free. Delvin gets Dirge and breaks the back wall in your cell with a battering-ram.
      In battle, the Darkbrotherhood could have a chance to instantly stealth kill a few enemies before disappearing into the night, while the Mages or Companions could help you fight til the end.
      It'd be rare though. Not something you would see every time you got into a battle or every time you got sent to prison.

I got into Skyrim about a year ago (have been playing Oblivion since childhood) and actually make the plots good unlike the Bards college and the college of winterhold quests. Even make it multiplayer so I can play with other people and form a sorta team where if ur playing with another it gives a few bonus quest lines where teamwork is needed 😂 or even have a survival mode for those people who really value an entirely immersive experience or even just a way of being able to choose how easy or how hard gameplay can be such as choosing how easy it is to kill enemies but no map markers, or something like that

    I feel like you should be able to take charge and mold factions as you rank up, and at max, choose a second in command who molds it further in their interests, ideology, or speciality while you're away. A fighters guild that could become almost like mercenary pirates, but a different player could steer it more into the knights of the roundtable. Also interaction! It would be cool if you could actually use your affiliation in the mages guild to institutional benefit for your fighters guild and the thieves guild, etc.
    Ditto for political complexity. Mages guild is neutral, until your leadership gets it involved. Imagine how cool it would be to be able to call in a cadre of mages from winterhold to take over whiterun. Etc, use your ranks in factions to benefit beyond the faction itself.

    • @jamestitus472

      Daedric factions (and other religious) have unique companions. You could even start or further the cult. Build shrines in regions of influence. In Morrowind, there are the four great houses, and various vampire clans. And the Fighter's guild gets into a conflict with the thief guild. Then there's the other thief/assassin guild. It's crazy how much you could interact with and build a fairly unique experience that's different from someone else or even if you make a new character.

    One of my favorite characters I made in skyrim was designed to do all of the factions. He started as an honorable warrior and joined the companions. The hircine ritual didn't sit well with him though. Then through the main quest, he got into the college and he began to dabble in magic. Finishing the college and the main guest, he felt like an accomplished hero who was beloved by all.
    Then he got falsely imprisoned in markarth, his ego took a hit, and his perception of the people of Skyrim started to change. Seeing all of the corruption led him to start collecting daedric artifacts. And eventually he would join the thieves guild in search of wealth. Mercers betrayal worsened his outlook, and pushed towards the dark brotherhood.
    Now he is an angry, power hungry, dragonborn who just heard about a vampire menace and when offered the gift of Harkons blood, he takes it, eventually killing him and becoming the patriarch of the volkihar clan.
    Finally, a rival dragonborn from solsthiem challenges him. So he sells his soul to hermaeus mora, defeats his rival, and becomes the most powerful dragonborn in history.

    What if there were an alternate "main" storyline? Early on, a main quest that can be completed in two different ways. If you do it the "wrong" way, you can't continue the main quest, but after a time you get a message from someone offering you a (potentially darker) alternative. Then, further along in this alternate main story, you have the choice to go back to your original allegiance, or to continue with how you've gone up to that point. This could reflect the same end goal being completed, or the same end-game events occurring, but in somebody else's interest.

    2. Arena faction.
    3. Necromancer / Dark Wizard Guild. There's so much conflict between all the different mage factions in the TES universe and I hate only seeing one side of it per game.
    4. Hunter's Guild. I'd love to have a less evil assassin's guild variant and a Hunter's Guild that allows you to go after dangerous wildlife, clear out infested caves, kill this super unique animal to mount on your wall, shit like that sounds neat.
