We met with a young, celebrated violinist by the name of Clara-Jumi KANG at the Kumho Art Hall, where she was scheduled to hold a recital. Her performances were brilliant, and her maturity and poise shown during the interview were impressive.
As the daughter of the opera singers KANG Byung-woon and HAN Min-hee, Clara-Jumi KANG was in an environment where she could naturally hone her craft in music. She first picked up a violin at the age of 2, and entered the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim at the age of 4. She was gradually stepping closer to her dream of becoming a professional violinist until she injured her pinky finger in her early teens, leaving her no choice but to stop playing the violin for three and a half years. But instead of giving up, she decided to pursue her passion and concentrated on her rehabilitation. In 2004, she came to the motherland to enroll in Korea National University of Arts and she has been unleashing her potential ever since. She won multiple competitions including the 2009 Seoul International Music Competition, 2010 Sendai International Music Competition and 2010 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, which is one of the world′s three biggest violin competitions. After gaining fame through the major international violin competitions, she began holding solo recitals and collaborating with prestigious orchestras around the world.
Clara-Jumi KANG has studied under the tutelage of 7 world-renowned violin masters, and she hopes to pass on her knowledge and expertise to other aspiring violinists. During the interview, she also explained in detail of the differences between the 1725 Guarneri del Gesu ex-Moller, which she is currently using, and the ex-Gingold Stradivari, which she had a chance to borrow as a prize for winning the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. She also shared the various experiences she has had including how she was admitted into the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim and she even gave a beautiful singing performance of Amazing Grace. 2014년 어느 더운 여름 날, 금호아트홀에서 클라라 주미 강의 바이올린 연주와 함께 유쾌한 만남을 가졌다. 연주하는 클라라 주미 강의 모습은 감동 그 자체. 솔직하게 인터뷰에 임한 그녀는 또래보다 정서적으로 성숙해 보였다.
바이올린 연주자 강주미. 해외에서는 클라라 주미 강으로 알려진 그녀는 한국 저명한 오페라 가수로 독일이 활동 주 무대인 강병운씨와 어머니 한민희씨의 딸이다. 자연스럽게 음악을 접할 수 있는 환경에서 자란 그녀는 만 두 살반때 바이올린을 처음 잡았다. 네 살 때 독일 만하임 국립음대 예비학교에 입학한 이래 천재성을 바탕으로 승승장구 했던 그녀. 그러다 12세 때 새끼손가락을 다쳐 연주를 쉬어야 하는 불운을 겪으며 노력형 천재로 다시 태어났다. 끝나지 않을 것 같았던 3년 반이라는 시간은 음악이 아닌 다른 학문에 자연스레 관심을 기울이는 계기가 됐고 ‘라라’라는 바이올린을 만나는 운명적 순간이 되기도 했다. 2004년 귀국해 한국예술종합학교에 입학한 그녀는 ‘라라’와 함께 하면서 인생의 황금기를 맞게 된다. 2009년 서울국제음악콩쿠르, 2010년 센다이 국제콩쿠르, 그리고 같은 해 세계 3대 바이올린 콩쿠르 중 하나인 미국 인디애나 콩쿠르에서 그녀는 잇따라 최고의 성적을 거둔다. 주요 국제 바이올린 콩쿠르에서 이름을 알리게 된 그녀는 독주 연주자로서 자신의 입지를 세우며 세계 유수의 오케스트라와 정기적으로 협연을 하게 된다.

She is mature, calm, humble and confident, unlike other Young generation musicians.
Her talent and intelligence deserve a better interviewer.
The interviewer should do proper research and do her homework before she interviews anyone, especially someone like Clara, a real professional.

Ms. Kang is very mature and intelligent and deserved a better more proficient interviewer. Clara is a magnificent violinist and i look forward to seeing her and another outstanding violinist Luke Hsu in the future, they are both just electrifying giving hope to classical music.
시간이 참 빠르네요...2010년에 공연에서 처음 봤었는데 벌써 2020년이네요...작년에도 공연 갔지만 앞으로 더 자주 가려고 해야겠네요 ㅎㅎ
Belle violoniste et belle personne ! Touchante, honnête, charmante, elle a en plus la gentillesse de répondre poliment à des questions parfois d'une cucuterie consternante et elle s'en sort très bien ! Elle est tellement mignonne qu'on pourrait l'écouter parler de tout et de rien pendant des heures… oubliant qu'on ferait mieux de l'écouter jouer du violon ce qu'elle fait superbement.

I could not find words to discribe how I love her style, her unsurpassed perforamance. even just listening to her singing of Amazing Grace is already a great touch...

Very nice young violinist, but the lady doing to interview was absolutely gorgeous.
I thought she was much older when I saw her other video clips playing the violin than in this interview. But she looks so cute and much younger than I felt before. I like her face, espeically eyes and the way of talking and gesturing. She is so attractive~~!! I think I'll be a fan of her because I newly bought a violin for myself and I'm looking forward to getting it tomorrow. I'm so really thrilled. / I might watch her clips to imitate her..lol~~!!

I was fascinated by her accent. It's very German and maybe Koreanish. But such a good command of English too!

I have also noticed this recently with quite a few of these South Korean lady Musicians. Yes definitely had plastic surgery and the brilliant Violinist Zia Hyunsu Shin has also completely changed her looks since what she looked like around 2011, looks like a completely different girl. Trouble is that these girls all end up looking much the same. Also many of these girls in South Korea have eye lid surgery.

강주미양은 훌륭한 바이올린 연주자이고 크레스가 다분하며 볼수록 매력이 넘치는 여성인데 비하여 Interview女는 잔뜩 꾸며논 외모와 가속적인 말솜씨에 정리되지않은 머리스타일까지 완전 밥맛떨어지는 MC다. 차분한 강주미양을 인터뷰할 자격이 전혀없는 Interview가 엄청거슬렸다
