About the Iran comment: He was making fun of Shloime for going to different Arab countries as a journalinst. In general many of the Arab countries are not so friendly toward Jewish visitors. It's friction that's been for centuries, and got a bit worse when Israel was declared a Jewish state.

16:20 I think its so beautiful that you thank God every day when you wake up for another day with your family. We need to recognize that every day is a gift.
I don't know if anyone has said this yet in the comments, but there's a jewish prayer called Modeh Ani ("I am thankful") that is said every morning when waking up, and it's about thanking God for another day of life, and how He believes in us to infuse that day with purpose and meaning.

    - About living in the Sukkah for 7 days - The simple reason Sukkot is celebrated, is to commemorate the Sukkots that the people of Israel sat in, while going through the desert, after they left Egypt, on their way to the Land of Israel.
The deeper meaning of it is the difference between the house and a Sukkah. A house is a symbol of man's self-confidence - man invests, creates, builds a house. And the house protects him from rains and winds on cold days, and gives him a shaded place from the sun. The house gives a person a sense of security and identity.
Sukkot expresses the faith we have in God. We leave our familiar, permanent and comfortable place - home - and in fact leave our security, and in this we admit that not everything begins and ends with us and the work of our hands, and that there is a limit to our wisdom and our actions. Sometimes we forget this and Sukkot is a reminder for a short time that our security is not in our home, our creation and the work of our hands, but in the one who gave us life, gave us the abilities and all the good things in our lives.
    - As for Iran and other Muslim countries and their attitude towards Jews and towards Israel - it's too long a topic for a short comment, so I will only say that to many Muslim countries Israelis can't enter, unless with a foreign passport, and even then - just being a Jew might be a danger to your life.
    - As for the Tefillin and using them only on regular days and not on Shabbats and holidays - using the Tefillin is a symbol that we observe the Torah that God gave us. As it written in the Torah itself - keeping the Shabbats and holidays is itself a symbol that we observe the Torah. So if those days themselves are the symbol of observing the Torah, we don't need another symbol, so we don't use the Tefiilin.
I do love your reaction. Thank you.
    Tzippy

I just want to clarify that most of these videos are about European Jews known as Ashkenazim, as an Eastern Jew, there are some things that are a little different, for example, in the previous episode there was sushi in a pizza shop, Eastern Jews will not eat fish with dairy foods, here he is completely wrapped in a tallit , Eastern Jews will leave the part of the face visible...

@@johnjacobs7426 I'm talking about the time of wrapping the tallit, the Mizrahim will not cover their faces when wrapping, in fact! It will not count.
Maybe according to Maran haben Ish Chai This will be considered a wrap, But it is more common for most people from the East, especially from Morocco, not to cover the WHOLE face.

    • @freespeech100
      @freespeech100 ปีที่แล้ว

@@johnjacobs7426 Some Ashkenazim (eg my family) also follow the ruling to not cover the whole face. Not debating right or wrong, but the source is interesting. ( And I'm not suggesting that people should change their custom based on historical analysis, unless their Rav ageees). The wrappping is supposed to be like atifas yishma'elim, the way Arabs wrap themselves, in other words, like a kaffiya. Sephardic Jews were in more contact with actual Arabs and It makes sense that they saw something which actress kind of obvious, which is that kaffiyas don't cover the eyes.... Cause if they did wouldn't be able to see. Ashkenazim largely had no contact with yishma'elim. (And some ashkenazi poskim even in Europe ruled that you don't cover the face).

A mezuzah is supposed to be put on doors of rooms where there is a proper doorframe of at least a certain height, except for the bathroom. Also mezuzahs are not put on closets. I am not sure but I think mezuzahs are also put on rounded archway entrances to rooms where there are doorposts, even if there is no actual door there. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong about the archways.)

About the mezuzah, basically all doorposts owned by a Jew need to have a mezuzah, (besides restrooms). There are different opinions regarding the elevator, if it needs one too (maybe because it doesn't count as a 'room').
The obligation is affixing it, not to touch and kiss it. That's more of a practice, kissing holy articles.

While the protection of the sukkah seems to be spiritual, it's really physical as well. The lesson is that G-d is the One protecting us. True, we have to do our part and close/lock our doors at night, but when G-d tells us it's time to spend a week in the sukkah, that is now the safest place to be.
In the book of Bamidbar (Numbers), the Jewish people were attacked after Aaron HaKohen dies and the clouds of glory (which our sukkah is modeled after) disappeared.
Unfortunately, just recently, the terrible attack by Hamas was also committed right after the holiday of sukkos ended.
