The iconic "Merry-Go-Round of Life", from Howl's Moving Castle! These 5 min pieces truly rips up both of my time and sanity, but it's pleasing to release the results. And this time it was easier, because this arrangement is based on the official synthesia for this piece on Joe Hisaishi's channel: • Joe Hisaishi - “Merry-...
Despite the description claiming it's a "piano solo" version, it's actually the orchestral version, with the main instrument lines visualized in the synthesia. Consequently, I wanted to create my own piano based on the notes in the video, it's about 99% the same except for a few corrections/edits:
"Fixes":
-Added a few arpeggios in the right hand where it was audible in the track but missing from the synthesia.
-Fixed wrong octave in right hand in the 130 section.
-Added two bassnotes missing in 152.
-Added some leading notes in rh where it was audibly missing.
Creative edits:
-Added a few D's under 3 lone A notes in the melody.
-Took away one note from chords in 10 and 11 because it sounded too dissonant.
-Doubled melody and bass in climax.
It was a lot of work, but I hope you will like this piano version! It's an amazing movie and score as per usual with Miyazaki and Hisaishi, so I knew I wanted to do something with it at one point.
Thanks for watching! Please like & subscribe if you enjoyed the video.

Hope you’ll enjoy this faithful recreation of the synthesia version on Joe Hisaishi’s official channel, but this time for solo piano! Sheets are now up 🌟
tysm toby, for posting all this stuff with sheets for free, your work is very honorable
Honestly my soul was just transported straight to nostalgia heaven! The Ghibli films are without a doubt some of my favorite movies. I'd put it 3rd after my personal fav Princess mononoke and Spirited away. Joe Hisaishi's music is also outstanding. I'm going to go re learn this song.
thank you for the for your work!
This is so awesome man. Your videos are great. I really appreciate your channel.

well. im gonna try to learn this. just mentally preparing myself for the hours of annoyance, torment and pain im about to go through to learn another song past my skill level. pray for me
How's it going?
You can do it!!! 🌟🌟🌟
update:
ive memorized up to 0:53 and ive decided that im satisfied with that 👍
Hey man I just want to say after 4-5 long months of on and off playing, I finally got it done and now Im accomplished, keep up the good work man and STAY CONSISTENT (I used a differently composed version tho)
I BELIEVE IN YOUUU
Right hand: 🥰
Left hand: 💀
(I hate left hand jumps)
Fr and they give you a lot to do for one jump-
Sure they're hard initially but if you get them right they really add DRAMA to the music
Oh you would absolutely hate lone digger...
I swear... whoever made this song is truly extraordinary, this is a masterpiece
joe hisashi
Tips for those who are learning:
No need to exactly copy the song. First start out by finding the left hand chords then the right hand melody. As you practice, you can move onto harder chords (i-e 7th maj - min, sus4, etc) and an even harder melody.

I just bought a synth for my daughter, but i secretly always wanted to learn to play piano, i just made the intro, i wont stop until learning all the song and someday play it at her wedding
You can do it!
this comment made me cry, just saying
Bro you almost made me cry
5 months later hope you can play it 🫶🏽🙌🏽
Hows the progress so far?
These 4 finger chords at the 1 minute mark are kicking my ass. This is gonna take a long time to learn.
You can do it! 💪💪💪
@@TorbyBrand I'm slowly getting better. Thank you.
Hey how’s it going?
@@Optical_vr I stopped and moved on to something else. Like I said those 4 finger chord jumps were hard and there was just too many of them. I'll come back to this piece sometime in the future. I don't wanna spend more than two months learning something.
@@adamyohan bro there are ones that are a bit simpler that don't use the chords within melody lol just one notes then you can progress fron there
I am so fortunate to see your Reddit post when I just decided to practice this piece after watching the movie. It is a great arrangement that’s playable for intermediate level but sounds rich at the same time. I don’t know if I describe it correctly, but some version might sound like there are some little holes in between the notes. Thank you so so much!
Glad you like it, have fun :D
@@TorbyBrand gonna play this at jazz fest wish me luck
@@jackthecommenter2768is it really jazz i thought it was classical
@@VooteriaIf I am not wrong 8BitMusicTheory just made video talking about this. He said that it is classical but mixed with elements of jazz.
i gave up on this song 5 years ago and abandoned the piano completely. i decided to start over again, after not playing for a long time, on May 25 and finally finished learning this song on August 10 (technically, 32 days, about 1-5 hrs per day, since i don't get to play everyday LOL)
it'll take a while to master the second half but i'm proud i didn't give up until the end T__T i'll practice more
this video's been my guide since the very beginning, thank you so much!! 💜
How are you doing? Are you still learning?
Nice job dude! This is way more accurate than a lot of other tutorials I saw
Glad you like it! 🙏🏻
Ghibli films are so magical, thank you for doing this! I'm doing a Ghibli Medley, so this will be great if I find the confidence to do a full rendition of one of the songs :)
Absolutely fantastic arrangement! Thanks for sharing this I hope you have a great rest of your day
you are a genius tysm for posting this i was searching for the transcription of hisaishi's keyboard visualizer :)
Your channel is my top 1 when it comes to learning Ghibli pieces, this is super appreciated, thank you!
If this song doesn’t play at my funeral, I refuse to die.
Finally!! I was really hoping you'd make a cover on this classic song. Thank you so much Torby!!
He didn't make it, he transcribed the official arrangement from Joe Hisaishi's channel.
I transcribed and performed it yes, glad you enjoyed it ^^
Been waiting since you set your premiere! You nailed every note. 👌🎧
can't wait for this one!
one of my favorites played masterfully well done!
🙏🙏🙏
Ive looked through lots tutorials for this song and i like this one the most ❤
This is very unexpected, can’t wait!
Looking forward to this
thank you so much for posting this!! my music teacher suggested we try "merry go round of life" and this rendition of it was by far my favorite one (and actually possible for me to play!! my hands are smallish)
i'm nowhere close to a piano prodigy but this song definitely makes me feel like one lol
i'm up to about 1:53 rn and i'm so happy that i get to play a song i like!!!! your piano scores are great please keep making them
this is SO HARD!!!!! i learned a simplified version, and now im trying this one... i already memorized it until 1:43, i already said to myself to not give up no matter what
2:01 ignore, just for me
hola, una pregunta, en la parte inicial cuales dedos ocupaste :v, esa parte no se como hacerla, jamás la había hecho algo parecido
Afterrr 7 months i learned it thank you bro
Nice
It’s going to take me forever to learn this but will try 😩
best piano vid ever
omg it sounds so good but it doesnt look too difficult to learn, what spells are you casting on your music
I mean he wasnt the one the compose it, + the Joe Hisaishi official channel did the midi "convert" they simply transcribed it
In what world does this look not difficult to learn? 😅
@@dianelezic i think they mean most covers of this song either dont sound right or sound good but are simply way too difficult where this looks like an in between
@@dianelezicmaybe for a beginner it wouldn’t be super easy but a more intermediate player could with more practice could learn it easier maybe?
What grade do you think this is?
finally i found the most accurate piano solo to the original
Ehhhh well. The tempos aren't quite there. But it's got all the notes.
the original creator of this song made a piano version, it's on Spotify
I started learning piano for this song, self taught though so its hard. 2 years ago i got a piano and it was missing the 1st and 7th octave so i could play it, 3 month ago i got a new one and procrastinating learning for another month intill my friend said she would learn it on cello, i have been dabbling since then and about 3 weeks ago decided to fianlly learn it.
Im 4:20 into memorizing the song, luckly im familier with memorizing since prevously i memorized the swan accompaniment for my cello friend
Thank you for posting this video ❤ its about time i learn the song i started playing for
Thank you so much!! I love your arrangements!! I’ll definitely be learning this!🎉🎉
OMG YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE FOR SO LONG😭
Literally baffled🤯 I was going to start learning this piece over the summer since I want to play it as one of my graded pieces for my piano lesson next semester, so this came at a great moment 😌👌 I really love your arrangements because they aren’t too easy and they aren’t too difficult while keeping the same vibe and feeling as the og
How's it going so far
Nice job like usual, very well played. :)
Thanks my man
Amazing arrangment
Appreciated! 🥰
this is so beautiful ;-;
Tysm for this !
Yes I loved this!😊
Of course!!
Extraordinary!
Thank you!
I still 1% progress XD please whoever learning this music... Keep going, you do it :D
I HAVE TO LEARN THIS PIECE
Because i first learned it in E, thats how ill continue, BUT i will not do THAT MUCH. I will simplify it cuz that shit hits crazy on my head.
Gonna ply this for my schools talent show
Me when the right hand part is hard: 🗿
Me when the left hand part is hard: 💀
Haha, yeah those jumps are the worst
Will this arrangement fit good with the orchestra arrangement because i am learning this arrangement with an orchestra but im not sure if the transition will sound the same as the original.
Grade 3 pianist trying to learn this but 10 minutes of practice and my fingers have stretched more than ever before lol
I have a recital in 1 hour and this is what I'm playing except a little over than 1 minute of it
How do you finger the right hand in 1:26 and 1:28?
1:49
잘듣고가요.😄
Learned this a few years ago and forgot it so I’m back to learn it a second time😅💀
I'll try to learn it!
I managed to learn until 0:53🎉😁
@@davibarbosamelli358where are you now?
I remember watching this as a kid before I was into anime
How do you guys pedal starting measure 29. It seems like he pumps the first three measures to emphasize staccato and then goes to pumping once per measure when the right hand joins? 0:54
I believe it’s per bass note/chord for the cleanest sound (in the vid) but in theory once per measure should be fine!
this might be more easy to follow along than this other i was working on
Am working out to this
Wow impressive I like it🎉❤😂
amazing cover, this is the version im going to learn!
also question, what is the song at the end of the video?
Thank you! That’s my version of ‘Spice’ from Food Wars ☺️
Could this be made into a duet?
Playing this 4 my talent show this Tuesday ❤ I’m so scared 😭😭😭
You’ll be fine! Just take it easy ☺️
hi i play ur one of this, very good

Is this the musescore version?
I learned this and it was extremely hard tge beginning
So far im at 2:13. I hope i can finish this piece this year😇
You can do it!!
Hi! Have you made it to the end?
@@Jepoma Yep!! just practice consistently..it is super easy since the left hand is easy
@@TalkativeMole wow, great. But the left hand is easy? I think thats the hardest
@@Jepoma They are all the same chords no?
Which of the three sheet music links in the description matches the version played in the video?
All three are the same! Just diff stores ☺️
@@TorbyBrandPerfect! Thank you so much! I very much appreciate the quick response :)
Dear Torby Brand! I have a serious question about the pump sustain pedal part from the bottom of the first page. At the first three beat you pedal the first note then let the staccato prevail, but when the right hand comes in if my ear is working the correctly you pedal through it and the staccato is not that noticable. Is this correct or did I misheard it? I want to learn the piece but keep thinking about this part how can I make the best out of it. Thank you for you answer in advance, it is a beautiful arrangement and I am sure that even Joe himself would be proud of this magnificent piece.
Hi! Thank you for the question!
It's not staccato in the beginning of that section either. While I do pump the pedal so the notes are separated in terms of sustain, I still hold the pedal during each individual note, so they are not cut off. I think the reason why it sounds more like I'm using sustain when the right hand comes in, is because both hands together make the sound more muddy. But I'm using the same pedal technique in both parts :) Hope that helps!
Just started 2 months ago already finnsihed the first minute in both hands trust easier than it looks
Yep im learning this complete, even if it affects my mental state.
FINALLY LEARNED IT!
Yep im very proud of my achievement

Do any of the sheets have fingerings? I'm still struggle with that sometimes
No, feel free to ask though!
4:06
The jumps tho
1:15 - 2:12 or to 2:33 ?
4:06
I’m on my third piano lesson and I am setting this piece as my goal! I can’t even keep up with the simple parts on 0.5x speed at the moment😂… I will update in a few months! 0:26
I have managed to play the whole song correctly!
I currently know up to 2:13 im i want to finish it so baaad aa
How do people use this to learn, do you watch it slowed down?
Either that or sheets!
4:05
ignore, just a timestamp for me
What grade would this be
I’m not qualified to say but I’d place it somewhere in the higher middle (6?). It’s quite lengthy and the jumps can be brutal. But not extremely hard.
Unable to play this - my hands are too small for the chords
If you can play octaves it still might be possible, you'll just have to slash some of them ^^
I'm going to make an effort to learn this beautiful melody, I really don't know much about the piano but I don't lose anything trying it, please wish me luck
You can do it!
Have you made it?
Holy Smokes! This piece is absolutely outstanding!!! This piece does full justice to the movie. Could you please upload a slower version of this piece; because, I want to learn it. Thanks. 👏👏👏
You can change settings to make the video play slower 😊
@@rosevue5969 The slower version is still kinda fast... atleast for me... lol
Thank you so much!!! And yes, you can adjust down to 0.25x I believe

3:12 the left hand😭
Im now at 3:23 , proud of myself
Where’s the part that the out-of-tune old piano versions cover?
You’re gonna have to be more specific haha
it's at 4:06
or 4:26
Appreciate it 💯
Please Have mercy. could U please Make The Sheet Free?
It’s not legal. But I offer 200+ sheets on my Patreon for $10 in the PDF megapack! That’s less than 0.05$ per sheet…
@@vaevixis5157 if you sub to my $3 tier on Patreon and message me there, sure!
how achieveable is this for someone who hasn't had any piano lessons?
Anything is possible but more importantly, you should learn several easier and shorter pieces before attempting something of this scale. Then you can learn it in parts, and make a makeshift shorter version so to speak and work from there.
The thing is, its easy, but long 🥲
Noice
Thx bruh
2:40
why do measures 144,145 have 10 key octaves 😭
Haha, you can always roll/areggiate them ☺️
0:16
2:35
God loves you
I’ve been practicing this for a couple days now, i am capable of getting to 0:29 easily but damn that F to (whatever that chord is named) is hard
