As a heavy Adobe user (I use the entire suit in my production house), Affinity Photo for iPad is severely underrated. It’s way more useful than Photoshop for iPad and fun for a predominant iPad user.
Congratulations on a wise decision. I first used Photoshop in 1992. I immediately stopped using Photoshop as soon as Adobe switched to a $ub$cription model. No thanks Adobe. I do not need “Creative Cloud”. F O Adobe.
A relevant topic to talk about. Surprised you don't have more views and subscriptions. But TH-cam suggested you to me, even though I mostly watch other kind of videos, so hopefully it blows up and more people come and start thinking/talking. Some 10 years ago Adobe were giving out Photoshop CS2 for free on their website. I downloaded it then but later when I wanted to share the link with my friends, it was gone. It does most of the things people would need.
Just did the same thing… cancelling Adobe in Jan (end of my yearly contract) grabbed affinity pro and Darkroom (also available as a one time purchase) - cancelled Canva (and been on a rampage to cancel AS MUCH as subscription based app as i reasonably can)
"Different solutions" are few and far between. Using an iPad on top of that is not so wise YET. As a pro photographer myself Adobe is still king and I actually hate saying that. Other software companies like Skylum or ON1 are in perpetual beta! These companies don't have the bandwidth nor the resources to compete with Adobe and thus Adobe can take its sweet time releasing some amazing options for creatives like ourselves. I'm tired of working with these other companies because there's often something that doesn't work well and it's much much worse than what issues might develop with a new feature or adjustment option in Adobe products like Photoshop. As things speed up and just simply get so much better with features incorporating ai, Adobe will still always win. I am a professional and don't have time to experiment every time I'm working on clients photos with some software that's touted as being amazing or whatever. It never is simple and I also always have the option to call Adobe for technical support. Granted, their technical support is not the best but it's better than nothing.
My son is reluctant to be part of the Adobe cult, AE expensive plug ins, very expensive. What is your alternative here? -i work daily on Adobe Acrobat that does not really work when sharing, what is your alternative here? -
Thank you for sharing your process. I'd love to hear more about how it works out 6 months from now. For what it's worth, I always encourage new photographers to always go with Adobe. There is so much free education on TH-cam. My local community college has classes/workshops in LightRoom and PhotoShop. You never know when you may want to collaborate with someone, and most photographers are on Adobe. And in this era of AI, Adobe will be on the cutting edge. IMHO - the Adobe photographer package is a great deal. I understand that others may be more concerned about the monthly $ which can add up over the years.
Adobe would appeal better all round if one could 'pay-as-you-go' , much like how the new AI e.g. Midjourney paying model. Last week I cancelled my creator subscription (lac of funds), and Adobe wanted 49euro as a cancellation fee, I was livid. After some back and forth text hockey, they cancelled it for me without charge. If Adobe introduced a Pay as you go, that would be fine, of course, it would help at least. Look, I'm not a professional, or a student, I'm a hobbyist. My understanding is; Adobe cater's for pros and students and not for non-professionals, an overlook? a performance gap? I now use ON1 RAW 2024 (1 time payment), DaVinci Resolve (free) and waiting for a Black Friday deal for Affinity which I hope to pick up for around 50 odd bucks (perpetual).
As a Fuji shooter, I love Capture One and have been using it for about 3 years. I wouldn't expect much in the way of savings though. You can pay for the current version outright, but you will likely end up upgrading it every couple years if you go that route. May as well just pay for the subscription to always have the latest version and hardware support.

So you don’t recommend Capture 1?
What is your segment in this universe of creative business option?

capture one's pricing is actually MORE greedy than Adobe's, but each to their own
Capture one you can pay one time $299.
