  • Some rapier using the wonderful system of Girard Thibault. We are staying pretty much at the first instance in order to maximise the number of exchanges, allowing us to learn the opponent’s intent through their blade. All while holding a phone camera in the other hand.:)
Our Thibault class is held every Tuesday. One of our 8 group classes available in person and online every week. www.londonlongsword.com

I love that Thibault's system is largely, "Here's how to hold your sword so that if they come toward you they impale themselves."

I really like the idea of these sorts of videos! They give an excellent perspective to new people and outsiders.

      Yes!
It's good if someone shows you an exercise/technique from the side, but it's even better from a first-person perspective, like you would experience it!
It's much easier to tell how you should hold the sword, for example.
Of course, now you can't see the foot work, but you can get that from the classic third person view.

I very like this exercise. Our group used this to learn longsword binding as well

Awesome training, it looks like a traditional sword school from the old world Europe.

I have no experience whatsoever with swordsmanship, just a fascination for it (ever since I realized how little I actually know about it). Still, this training looks/feels familiar to me, like a (relatively) subtle conversation/exchange of intentions and character, like I remember from practicing capoeira (in particularly the slow moving Angola variant). Interesting to watch. I can only guess here, but I think this might be a good (and playful) training for more than just the technique of swordsmanship itself.

If you have learned BJJ, Judo or Wrestling before, the goal of this exercise is very similar to these grappling martial arts. Basically you are reading the pressure of where the opponent is moving when 2 swords collide and then you came up with a solutions to deal with that movement, similar to 2 bodies clinching on to each other when wrestling.

Yep, What Jake said. If you have the time, watch this doc:
      th-cam.com/video/7DBmNVHTmNs/w-d-xo.html
It's not especially new, but the "push/pull" aspect is mirrored in various subsections - the stuff they discuss in the section about grappling applies to swords too.
Also, London Longsword's approach seems to be training deliberately, safely, focusing on the technique rather than using your fitness to "win" exchanges.

"You must expect me to attack with Capo Ferro?"
"Naturally, but I find Thibault cancels out Capo Ferro, don't you?"

I would love to be there practicing that, but being poor and disabled, I must live my dreams through the eye's of others.

Hands keep going too high. Foot movement is good. Sentiment is pretty strong on both side, dis engagement would have been effective. Thanks for training in Thibault's system and sharing the videos.
