When I was a kid I would watch Kevin VanDam dvds and he said "The cast makes the fisherman" and went on to talk about how he can skip his bait into places that no one else could. In the video he was skipping a jig around docks just smashing them. It always inspired me to learn how to put my bait anywhere it needed to go. Recently I went to Michigan to a chain of natural lakes I've loved since a kid and some of the best fish I caught weren't out on deep grass lines, they were skipping under docks that had broken down over the years and had 4" of clearance between the bottom lip and the surface of the water. I know for sure that most bass fisherman would have fished only the outside edges of docks like that and passed right by those fish.
Great advice. Trolling motor control is crucial. Stalking and being stealthy is always best. I hate being in the boat with someone who runs right up on tree or boat dock. And there are not too many guys who can pitch a jig into a 5 gallon bucket from 30 feet away like there were back in the 80's and 90's. Or skipping under a boat dock. And yep, seasonal patterns and movements are key to locating bass year round. So really, spotlighting has created a class of pro fishermen who lack the skills and understanding that the earlier generation of fishermen possess. But brother, I have one thing to point out. I know your not recording a video while your driving....wink wink. Keep up the good work Randy.
Every bass angler needs to understand how their electronics actually work and how to use them effectively. The average bass angler isn't like Randy who has fished 200+ days a year for the last 30 years. When you only get to fish one or 2 days a month at best because you have a real job you need to use all the tools available to you to help you. Technology enables you to enjoy the hobby even though your time is limited. Otherwise you will just be a bank beater all your life, only fishing things that the 10 boats before you just fished and declaring a great day when you catch 4 1.5 lbers after an 8 hr fishing day. That other stuff Randy talks about is useful too ....👽🦖
FFS is not magic. If you don't understand bass seasonal patterns you will still struggle to catch bass consistently because you still have to locate the bass first. FFS doesn't find fish for you, it just shows you what they are doing in real time once YOU find them
Randy hasn't even fished 5 days a year for the last 20. He's a grifter. You've not found it strange that you never seen a video of him fishing. As far as I can tell, he doesn't even own a boat. Think about it..
When you actually get good at being a "bank beater" we do FAR better than a few dinks lol. You should actually try fishing some time. It's a really great feeling to be rewarded for your knowledge and skill. Saying you'll never catch on the bank without 8 hours of effort shows how poor your skills are without FFS.
@ I don't know about the last 20 years, maybe the last couple, but from when he was 18 through his mid 30s he easily fished 200 days a year which adds up to well over 2000 fish days. For the average Joe who fishes 2-3 days a month they would need to fish for at least 83 years to get his experience. Modern electronics are the great equalizer and allows average guys to catch more fish and enjoy the hobby more. All this nonsense surrounding BSEs is just a red herring. Remember, FFS units don't kill bass , but tournament# sure do ...
Randy, I like your vids, but you need to realize that sometimes, the reason guys turn off the vids when you start talking about bass behavior and migration, is the fact that there are many here that watch your vids who have been doing this almost, or as long, as you have, and we frankly aren't here for that. Bass seasonal migration is at the BASICS of bass understanding, and should be second nature to those who fish for money on a regular basis, especially at a national level.
Randy, I’m in Illinois. Just to save you the embarrassment of mispronouncing our state’s name in a business meeting, the “s” is silent. Can’t believe I have to do this in 2024. 🤷♂️
1) yeah, no. I don't even own a boat or trolling motor, much less care about positioning one! :-) Don't forget Randy, "bass anglers" include people who fish from the bank and/or wade fish as well as boaters.
Agreed! All of these pro fishing channels assume everyone has a boat, trolling motor, high end electronics and all of the best poles, reels and tackle. It is offensive to guys like us.
Thanks Randy for sharing your knowledge. Keep up the good work on FFS.

Exactly. Stealth and presentation is so important. Boat control.
I'm pretty good with the motor but skipping with a baitcast drives me nuts
Great points there Randy. I fished with my buddy who didn't care about or want to hear about seasonal patterns. It starts there.
Maybe he is beyond the basics now.
would you do a on the water video of boat positions for different winds/scenarios

Agreed, Randy is right about most things, but holy shit is this dangerous.
I thought you were going to talk about making topwater plugs out of Sticks. that's what you guys should have to do.
love the videos. 22 years old, love seeing on the water videos.
Yep I know I struggle with the trolling motor. Then in a kayak in the wind is trouble 😂

@@We_Dont_Miss In other words, you like grifter vids?

Randy’s a natural born teacher and a great person.
If Randy ever decides to retire from bass fishing, he’d make a great teacher. Womens and gender studies in particular.
He's a hack and poser 😂
Definitely!
i would love to see randy on a fly rod
When you doing on the water stuff.

Randy , I like your topics and discussion, but, in the title of this video, you need to replace the word "most" with "many".

As a cheesehead the week after the Packer Bear Game, there’s been a lot of “noise” coming from down there 😊
Who gives AF
He's not very bright. And just doesn't know shit about fishing as he's proven over and over..
@@We_Dont_MissHas alot more B.A.S.S wins than you
That’s cause that state is irrelevant!

Then he isn't referring to the type fishing you are engaging in. Don't be so sensitive.
Good thing i dont have a trolling motor, what being a poor and all.
Got me itching to go bass fishing again 🤌
th-cam.com/video/IxCUf25PF6A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=i8ENatdedLZrFnjv I watch Milliken because he just goes out there and catches big ones.
