Great reaction, you really let yourself be absorbed. Can I just add some points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (of the bird) etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden... ). Also healing = heilung in the german name of the band. They sing in a reconstructed version of the previking proto norse language....(and the runes at the endjust spell out ANOANA

@WanderingGeezaButterfly That is a very relevant question, and the the answer will be a bit lengthy... I am grown up with a grandfather with a vivid interest for our (I am swedish) prehistory, and with him I visited a lot of bronze age and late stone age sites (Mostly hällristningar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Carvings_in_Tanum around Sweden and skeppsättningar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_ship ) and I was continously indoctrinated with his tellings about them. Also a lot of museums display items or exhibitions about this time. We mostly were in Bohuslän, Gotland and around Stockholm, and I always talked to guides about things i did not understand. So I can only say I have the knowledge from oral tradition which of course is not very academically valid... But they make sense to me...

The band is not a band, per say, but more of an ever growing "folk group" and by their own terms, they perform amplified history rituals.
The group is originally formed by 3 people. The girl singing is Maria Franz. She is Norwegian and the guy you hear chanting is Kai Uwe Faust. He is German. The producer of the band, Christopher Juul is Danish and he also performs in the rituals.
In a recent interview, they revealed that a fourth singer has joined the group to be performing in future ritual performances, although they have also been inviting local members of tribes, from the cities and countries they have visited in the past, to help out performing at the shows.
Also heilung want to be able to include everyone, who are interested, to join the group, as they say (this is paraphrased):
"Yes! If you want to and you are able to memorize the chant Hakkerskaldyr, you too can become a Heilung warrior."
I am guessing it is a way for them, to connect to the fans and followers who have an interest in the rituals.
It is important to note that for the members of Heilung, this is not just for show. The intirety is very ceremonial and every single sound is produced by natural and historical elements that would have been used in the past. They make their own instruments, garments and everything is connected to the spirituality of the old Norse ways and inspired by all sorts of native tribes, from all over the world.
I really think this is why most of the TH-cam reaction/content creators are speechless at first, when it comes to giving a genuine opinion about the music Heilung produces.

Hi: The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination.
The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money.
In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages.
The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real
Above the sign on the womb of the giving birth mother is probably a painted version of Ægirs Hjelm/Aegishjalmur/Ægishjálmr ("Ægir's Helmet"), which is a symbol described in the Poetic Edda as a symbol of ultimate protection, physical, mental and spiritual referred to as protection against all kinds of fear "Ægir/Ægi" means "Sea" in both dialects of Old Norse and is also the name of the personification of the sea. "Ægir's Gate", describes the eddies that drag ships to the bottom of the sea. Ægir / Ægi has often been described as an old man with a long white beard, and to see him standing still in the water was a bad omen, as he surfaced to drag people and ships to the bottom of the ocean. Ægirs Hjelm is described in the Poetic Edda in a stanza with a shape-shifting dragon, Fafner, whose blood is poisonous. The dragon guards a treasure and, with the help of Ægirs Hjelm's spell, is invincible. In The Galdrabók, the symbol is also described as something "you wear on your forehead, between your eyebrows"). About the solar eclipse perhaps these images would be connected with the symbol of the black sun. For the ancients, the sun was the source of life, as it provided them with heat and energy. The lack of him was just the opposite. The language is proto-norse. The language that the people living in scandinavia during the migration periode spoke in Pre-viking era. The only words of Anoana's handwriting that are known with certainty is Landawariar (Protector of the land)

If I’m not mistaken, the beach scenery is filmed at Kvalvika in the Lofoten region of Nordland county, northern coast of Norway (and it is a muskox) :)
The Lofoten islands are one of the most beautiful places in the world (said by someone who has spent time in more than 100 countries).
Having been left in an almost catatonic trance from the Nordic music, dance and surroundings when I started watching Vikings, I had to go in search of more similar styles and came across these guys a couple of years back although different song. This however, same reaction as previously and like yours, could not take my eyes away from it. I adore ‘tribal, indigenous, ethic’ music which so many have this effortless way to captivate and invite you on their journey and their story. It’s like an opera (which ain’t my cuppa tea at all) but when you see those in tears from watching this beautiful story unfold you get it. This is the operatic version. That was so freakn Beautiful

it's a primal part of us that has craved this ancient form of release. an appreciation of life and of magic. The drums are the heartbeat that we all share and that spiritual connection hits us RIGHT IN THE FEELS

There is not a song that Heilung has produced that has not resonated with me on a deep spiritual level. Their music is captivating, making me wish I was born in a different time different place.
Each song is a journey for your soul.
And another analyst stunned into silence. I've seen 6 so far, and the same reaction. This is my absolute favorite by Heilung.
I think it stands alone as a singular piece of art. It goes beyond just a song by a band.

I started to read comments after watching this incredible video and I decided to stop, the comments were obviously an in depth explanation of the story of the video, But I wanted to keep my peaceful/meditative perception at least for now. I felt that it spoke of a time when there was a greater connection between people, animals and nature, maybe not everyone had the power of connection but there were special ones that did. They communicated with all living things and understood everything. I know, maybe that’s a fairytale perception, but I love it. Beautiful video ❤️, thank you for sharing, I always watch your Dimash reactions and decided to watch this, so glad that I did ❤️

It’s so cute when the little girl pets the big animal then climbs onto its back and takes a nap. They were banned from some countries because some of their instruments are of human bones or painted with human blood. Great reaction. To many people interrupt the performance by talking and miss the important parts. Good on ya guy! 😊

i feel like the way you reacted, or initially non-reacted, is spot on. it is how i saw this the first time. the music and video are both just entrancing and then everything just slowing sinks in with greater depth and you just get spellbound i the storytelling. it is a special experience that grabs ahold of you. i cant wait to see them live in a couple of months and really get to feel it firsthand.

Don't apologize for not commenting while you watched the video. I'm sure I'm not alone in my gratitude toward you for not continually talking over the video or, perhaps worse, repeatedly stopping the playback to make some offhanded comment. With most music reaction videos I'm more interested in watching the presenter's reaction than in what they have to say anyway, more so with a video as musically, linguistically, and visually beautiful as this one. There's plenty of time to talk about the video after it's been played!
If you ever have a chance to see them live, I'd highly recommend it. (I had the good fortune of seeing them at red rocks amphitheater in Colorado) Also, in addition to a very beautiful video, the sound engineering and mixing on this track are superb.

thankyou for not speaking and just focused on watching the video. their is nothing as anoying as when the wiewer thinks hes more important than aktualy understand what you se and what you hear. a tale is all about understanding everything. when you look away 3 sec or make a break to talk you lost understanding half off it :)

If you haven't heard "Traust" I would highly recommend you listen to that one. Their best piece imho.
That last scene is the shamans apotheosis. Weve seen her birth, her youth, her standing in the height of her power, maturity, and understanding. In the final scene we're watching her next elevation to a spiritual existence beyond the mortal, facilitated by the guide (the musk ox) with whom she discovered greatest affinity. Probably because moose are complete douchebags, IMO. 😂

Trust, I have the same reaction and Ive watched this a hundred dozen times. It would be nice to know what the lyric means. Don't think it ever will be (there are multiple conflicting translations already), as the Roman was converted as loaner words into Proto/Norse on the protection amulets (akin to us using MCMVIII for the date 1908 but not knowing this you could be excused to think mmmSEEmmm Veee eye eye eye was a chant and you would find it hard to find a word in English that comes even close to mcmviii), with poor relation to the Proto/Norse language. We don't currently have the Japanese Katakana equivalent here :/

Hmmm. Sounds like it might have come from a first nations group in northern Canada.
There is a lot more similarity between the "primitive" civilizations around the world than most people think. Doesn't much matter if it is northern europe or north america. Shamanistic practices are surprisingly consistent everywhere (asia, south/north america etc). This stuff developed when we were much more closely related (culturally) than we are today.

This is in no way ( documentably) traditional. The lyrics are mostly taken from fragments of esetialy dead languages and we have no evidence of any music or instruments from the time at all so far as I know. This is all "Historicly plausible" certain elements of this do give a nod to herding calls of Scandinavia but I don't think it can exactly be thought of as "traditional"
I suppose if it generates interest in preserving memories of the past then that is a win. It’s also an unbelievably beautiful piece of art.
I wanted to come back and add, this is bot a bad thing, the music is authentic .....it is created with passion and feeling and the intent is to "reconstruct" and earlier time and connection. Just that it is not a continued lineage like say a Mauri or Navahoe type of way. It is never the less deep meaningful and real in a very intense way.
@@greywuuf well said! It’s amazing that we do have cultures that have had historical continuity up to this point. There are actually some cool bands attempting to keep Māori traditions alive while still taking a modern perspective.
