Even though he does shoo away the bird in the end, some other official artworks imply he enjoys their brief company when he's alone away from public eye haha. He's not inherently evil, just a person who went through a lot.

He isn’t down for the bird who only comes around during times of peace because scara isn’t afraid of being bad. He’s kinda saying like if you’re only gonna stay with me when things are easy then don’t bother staying at all. He’s accepted who he is, even if he’s a bad person.
@@alexanderluna4598 Huh. I've never seen this take before, and it's an interesting way to view it. I've always seen it as "he's willing to open up a bit, but only when no one is watching, because like hell will he show exploitable vulnerabilities when someone can see it", with a bit of "he snaps at others easily, so you probably shouldn't approach him when he's fresh out of a mood-ruining encounter (and he left the witnesses alive, see point 1)". (And wouldn't the bird just get in the way if it stayed? And then it would accidentally die in the crossfire, and everything will get worse)
Ive seen some people suggest and even put it in fanworks that he only shoos them away when there's people around bc he doesn't want to give the impression that he can be soft and honestly, i could buy that
@@tyronetalam8488 that doesn’t make sense, the fatuui approach him while the bird is on his shoulders and he’s not bothered by it at all, he doesn’t rush to shoo the bird away as people approach him. He’s clearly is just emotionally volatile and it doesn’t go any deeper than that. People don’t act in a singular way at all times with 0 deviation. People typically react to things differently depending on emotional state. In the beginning he was roaming and didn’t care, by the end he’s annoyed/frustrated and shooing the bird sways reflects that.

When at the beginning you said that the bird perching on his shoulder implies that he's probably a friendly person, I burst out laughing :D
But seriously tho, you got so many things right about him. Won't say which ones, just in case :D But I will say that he's a catalyst user. (Pro tip: if you can't see the character using a weapon when they attack, it's most likely a catalyst which only gets visible for certain attacks)

Bird is comfortable with Wanderer and tries to befriend him, yet he tries to ignore it.
I’d like to think there’s a meaning behind the bird and their relationship to the three (given their past/personality)

I don't know how much of the game you played , but there's a reason for that.
The reason why his eyes are covered in the trailer , is because , in the story , he technically shouldn't exist anymore. So his identity is unknown to everyone except a select few.

- About the bird, you said that he's probably friendly, yet he isn't too enthusiastic about it perching on him. It shows that he's inherently benevolent, hence the bird perceives him as safe. Yet at the end, he swats it away. The point of this (that I see) is the contrast between the true nature of the character, which is very kind, caring and gentle, versus what the life he's led did to him, which is making him cold, condescending, harsh. It's doing a good job of showing the dichotomy of his character which - at least for now - is the entire point.
- About him being immortal and almost mocking his own existence, well.. he really is immortal and it's quite possible he - in a way - sees his entire life up to a certain point as a complete joke.
- The part about him being sinister is shown mainly in off shots with effects on them, which to me signifies how those parts of his personality are exactly that - flashbacks or echoes of a past life, which is true in a way. An interesting detail at the end is that the music reverts to an 'older' theme of his, which mirrors this same thing. There's echoes of that cold, sinister person in the character we see now, but they are no longer on the forefront and are not what defines him as a person in a primary sense.
I obviously know his entire lore so it's easier for me and anyone in my position to make this connection, but I think you'd be pleasantly surprised if you delved into this character a bit more and saw just how many little thins in this trailer make so much sense.
In the official arts, you can see that animals (and the aranaras) are fond of him, he just doesn't like people that much.... 🤣
He has a kind nature but went through a lot, he is resentful to humanity.

An incredibly accurate read on the character.
Wanderer is... famously bad tempered. Has killed a lot of people, and has a list of crimes longer than he is tall. But I would say he's a rather complex character.
We, as players, do know where he comes from and who he is. However, he is a mystery to the world and most characters in the story.
Spoilers:
He's from Inazuma. A demigod of sorts - you can think of him as Raiden's son. Also a living puppet. And heartless (he literally doesn't have a heart).

I'm not being hyperbolic or metaphorical. In canon, he literally does not have a physical heart. His chest is empty. But all that means is that he's not human, not that he's lacking humanity.

9:15 this shot of Wanderer fighting and coming toward the camera POV is so similar to Kazuha's trailer where a similar shot is used, and I really appreciate that similarity. not sure if it was intended, but given Wanderer's backstory (that I will not spoil) it feels like a nod to Kazuha's trailer in a way.
Ohh you're right! That small scene on the bridge does mirror this a bit! I love the various ways Hoyo showcases the many parallels between him and so many other characters so well!
The flute section at the very beginning is similar to the theme at the beginning of Kazuha's trailer. Both are wanderers from Inazuma after all.

Wanderer CAN be a friendly person he just has that "tootsie pop" thing going on (takes a long time to get to the center and if you're inpatient it makes you wanna crack him which... in this case, a soft inside isn't what you're going to find) And ofc you have to make sure you don't set him off which can be a little hard to do at this point in time.
The trailer was probably also set up in a way that conveys how he's supposed to be seen to the world, just a regular dude until you piss him off. Which you, as someone who doesn't know him, did see him as a rather calm and friendly person at first but then seeing him react, it made you change your mind on how you perceived him. It's interesting how accurate your assessment of him is based on the trailer alone. And it's also interesting how you related several things here to the Raiden Shogun because they are indeed related 😌
Oh, right! About that paragraph of text that tells you who the character is and what they do and so on, which is absent here - it actually exists in-game as the character description, and it gives you exactly no information beyond what you can gather yourself anyway :D

You compared his trailer to the Raiden Shogun one for being similar and hoyoverse did it on purpose as they are related and scaramouche even calls her his mother. Their sound tracks are also similar.
His design is based on a Mountain Ascetic, aka Yamabushi (Japanese traveling monks). Think Miroku from Inuyasha. His design definitely references a lot of Buddhist/monk imagery. He has Shakujo attached to both ribbons hanging from his lotus shaped hat. Shakujo are a spiritual artifact that monks use in cleansing ceremonies and such. Miroku has one on his staff. And Wanderer's weapon is a bell, again something used in Buddhist temples. His design is definitely gorgeous and one of my favs! He comes originally from Inazuma, the Japan based nation. But he resides in Sumeru, the most recent nation that's based on the middle east (Pakistan, Iran, Israel, etc)/north Africa (Egypt)/southwest Asia (India, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc).
hi just so you know Sumeru isn't based off of vietnam at all. vietnam is part of the Xinosphere which groups it in the same culture group as China, Korea, and Japan.
The parallels between some of the scenes in his demo and Raiden's demo is such a feast for the eyes if you have an idea of the Inazuma lore.Been binging your reactions for the past few hours. Great insight and I can't wait for more of these! :)

I think his identity is wiped from Fatui’s memory as a previous harbinger boss so his face/eyes are burred. To everyone that he is just unknown wanderer they cannot recall
I aspire to understand characters and stories *this well.* I love the way you explain and take notice towards things so many people wouldn't have ever picked up on upon their first watch!
He essentially has like a duel personality in him, where each side is still trying to come to terms with the other.
The area that his style is based off of is the Shugensha Monks of Japan. And this is the design/pallet of his nicer half after he had attempted to erase himself. His previous one also had the Shugensha Monk style but the color pallet was more sinister as he was much more unforgiving due to past trauma.
Anyway there was a small window where his more pure self, stripped of that trauma, led a fairly humble life from his perspective, alone but not on the coattails of betrayal for all that "time". He seems caring and humble, helping people, and eager to do some good. Ultimately, when told that he tried to erase himself, failing, and that he had done egregious things - he was given the choice to remember his past transgressions which he accepts that he must remember it, know the truth rather than hide from it. When the memories of that were added back, it didn't completely get rid of the Wanderer's short time of simple solitude, but crammed both timelines of perceivable events in him. While also at the same time him learning that he was not completely betrayed by someone he considered his family member at the time, but that another person murdered and framed that the family member.
So now he's sorta in the middle of working all that out, fresh grief, comparatively young and naïve, etc so he's pretty edgy but also it makes sense as to why and that deep deep down he does want normal good things. The Duel perspective of this character is often written about in Buddhist scripts which Japanese monks you know derive their teachings from lol..
He is my favorite character too ^^;

What makes this kind of ironic is that they are actually technically his subordinates. Or at least they were, but he erased the memories of his existence from everyone in the world (going so far as to alter physical evidence too lol). So them attacking him is a bit like a cosmic joke to him xD.
He is indeed VERY SINISTER and he has similar elements to Raiden's demo for a very strong set of reasons 😉
It really amazes me how they do plan their storyboard for these trailers and making it a reality. Props to them!

So, the player knows where he's from and what he is but no one else does, he also shares themes with raiden shogun for a reason.
I guess I'll just say he's from Inazuma (japan) but his current outfit is sumeru (middle east/south asian) based. If u ever play the game and then watch this it will make a lot more sense obviously
He did not share with the Shogun, but the family of the swordsmiths and of course Raddish knows

Actually, if you finished main Inazuma quest, it won't be too long before you meet the guy himself and see what you got right.
Just every time he uses his burst (steps on the enemy) I think "OMG He looks so evil LoL" Just look at his face.

As you asked, I want to briefly explain what a Wanderer really is. First of all, he is very closely related to Shogun Raiden( Their trailers are very similar), because he is the prototype of the Electro Archon doll, which failed and the Shogun came to replace it. He's from Inazuma. The wanderer was thrown out for uselessness, where he did a lot of mischief and destroyed his psyche., which led him to such a character: mocking, frightening, INSANE, moderately calm and unpleasant. After being released from the shackles of the past, he received his anemo vision, which is noticed by free and light notes from his trailer, showing his peace and tranquility. The guy has nowhere to live, which is why he is a wandering Wanderer

he is from Inazuma and yes he is very old and for a long time he only knew anger and disappointment but now he is in better control
I never even noticed that the electro fatui reacted by bringing his arms up in a guard and the wanderer just powered through it. Cool choreography.
The reason there is no paragraph to introduce him is because those that play the game, know exactly who he is, or rather, who he was. he's on a different path now as a wanderer but that doesn't stop him from being a darker sort of person. I didn't like his original character too much but I really love Wanderer. Also not surprised you caught the similarities for the raiden shogun. There is a reason for that and players figure that out during gameplay.

Well picked up on almost everything that describes this character! Indeed, there is a story reason why a section of the trailer resembles the Raiden Shogun trailer. Moreover, some people said that the trailer "got the Archon treatment" because it goes beyond the normal standard for a 5 star character. There is a story reason for that, too.

-he was one of the villain before thats why he seem scary
-he got lied in his youth which is why he turn evil but eventually he found the truth, thats why he join us and become playable
-he is infact immortal, he is some sort of puppet/robot , made by goddess of lightning so he is a unique being
-he erased his existence from people memories including himself and wandering around aimlessly, thats where the name wanderer comes from
-his clothing design inspired by Japanese monk specifically "yamabushi", that ringing sound with brush strokes reminiscent of monks praying instrument and the lotus symbolism
You psychoanalyzed Scaramuche to a T 😂 it's fascinating how can you tell the story from a short trailer...that shows how good it is done
The Wanderer is the “son of a goddess” so he has all sorts of powers. Actually the Imazuman goddess EI made him in the form of a puppet. Mocking his own existence is right! His “mother gave him his freedom by abandoning him and he believes she and others in his life have betrayed him! Wize to all the betrayal, he has set out to get revenge. The bird shows that he still has some redeeming graces. He can be kind and there is good in him, though a lot of anger and angst! His change is due to the Travelors and Niheda’s influence as well as going through Irmasol.
I would love to see you react to the Nahida demo, and the recent Alhaitham teaser. They are both just visually beautiful

Wanderer was born in Inazuma. He was created by the raiden shogun. That's why there's a lot of parallels in their trailers. He's like her son.
Shortly after his creation he was abandoned.
I'm not gonna summarize his entire story but let's must say he went through a lot. It's important to mention he was a fatui harbinger at one point.
And although he was born in Inazuma he got his vision (source of elemental power) in Sumeru when he was there.

4:27 well Wanderer is originally from Inazuma. Which is basically genshins equivalent of Japan. I think Genshins timeline is sorta like... I dont know, maybe 1800's? 1900's? I know its not modern as theres not exactly much technology but of course its also in a fantasy setting. Maybe its even based on midieval times but idk.

you are surprising correct. spoilers alert, dont scroll if you want to find out yourself:
he was one of the fatui harbingers and wiped himself from existance after getting defeated by the traveler and nahida, so no one ever remembers him and no one knows he exists, thats why there is no description of him, because the world doesnt know he exists. if you look at the character explanation video its a woman (Alice, which is Klee's mom) doing the explanation since she isnt from this world and she remembers wanderer, while usually its the man (Dainsleif) who is from this world meaning he doesnt remember him.
Idk if anyone told you this yet but the circular symbol that appeared behind the Wanderer at one point is called Enso. It's quite meaningful in Japanese Zen culture, you may want to check it out on Wikipedia. It's so cool you took notice of this moment even though it was because of the black and white switching effect :)

For me the bird is about the connection it has with raiden shougun because in the shougun idles that same bird perches on shougun's hand and in the video the bird perches on scaramuche's shoulder well that's just my opinion
One thing you noticed but didn't have the context to guess correctly (I don't think it's a spoiler because by the time you have context this'll be pretty obvious): the glitchiness in his title screen and soon after isn't just to be edgy. The chain of events necessary to be able to introduce him here, in this role, in this video, required doing some things that ought to have glitched any in-universe camera, and that's about the way it would have looked to an out-of-universe observer looking at said camera and editing film footage. This and the leading events have also left him in a more reckless and self-destructive mood than usual (not that either of those is out of character). He's feeling simultaneously the kind of power which comes from feeling invisible and untouchable, yet impotent and spared of either meaning or consequences to his existence at the same time.
Also, the bird isn't just about him. Not only is being attractive to birds a minor motif with other members of his family, but this bird in this video probably either represents or (a long shot, but it's possible) outright is another character, who he has a very recent, emotionally charged and complicated (mostly on his side) relationship with.
wanderer or the balladeer/scaramouche is the object of devine creation other wise known as kunikuzushi is the prototype raiden shogun puppet made by ei the current electro archon he is from inazuma and the place the trailer shows him in is sumeru

if you pay attention, the design of raiden shogun's/ei eyes are identical, the only difference is the palette.
they might hide it bc it will be a spoiler for the lore, or even did it so we could find it strange and dig it out.
moreover, wanderer's music is similar in vibe and rhythm as raiden shogun's, hinting about their connections.
at the opening scene, when the bird perches on the Wanderer's hat then his shoulder. The character not actually can see or feel the bird, meaning he's not actually human, just a puppet.

Essentially wanderer was once an antagonist, he was power hungry and very mocking. After he was defeated by the main character, he wished for everyone to forget who he was, even himself. He eventually regained his memory and personality, but he continues to use the second chance he has.

He's originally made in Inazuma by Raiden (or Ei) watch like a different video about him (his name is Kunikuzushi originally but known as Scaramouche when he joined the Fatui but then left to Sumeru)
Wanderer is from a nation called Inazuma (nation inspired by Japan) but he stays in Sumeru (nation inspired by Southeast Asia).
The plump bird in the beginning seems almost like a "mockery" of Raiden's trailer and the raven. Just as the Wanderer himself was... well, lore.

The premise, is that he's made by Raiden Shogun to be her host as experiment, but failed and released. Saying more would give spoilers to everything. You need to play genshin to see all the lore.

He is very evil-ish and he looks down on people and he has a deep story behind him a lot of frustration and hurt as well and I fking love him please look down on me Wanderer

Friendly... in a kind of male tsundere type of way.
I think it's funny how in the comments people subconsciously haven't given him his second chance and mock the idea that he even _can_ be friendly... which is unironically lore-accurate. Little birdo could also call to his innter peace rather than his niceness. He used to be a very _very_ internally disturbed character. [Spoilers ahead]
He used to be *QUITE EVIL* and was indeed a Fatui Harbinger. He is a homonculus that was originally created in Inazuma to house the Electro Archon's Gnosis, but was discarded as an "unfit vessel" for having emotions. Fear of Abandonment is his core struggle. He attempted to join "normal" life, but as people died/were killed around him, his feelings of abandonment intensified. He was later tricked into joining The Fatui who exploited his search to be valuable, and therefore wanted/purposeful. They lied to him about the death of one of his dear friends, whom they were responsible for killing (they told him he ran away and abandoned him. Later, he took out his sorrow by almost wiping out their clan. He was later able to recover true memories and revealed the deception thanks to the Dendro Archon. Realizing the atrocities he committed under belief of a lie (which also includes allowing THe Doctor to run brutal experiments on him) he sought to erase the memory of himself from "the world tree of memory". In an effort to change the past. Having even forgotten himself, he became "The Wanderer."
As the wanderer, his forsaken memories are again restored, including the attempt to erase himself from history. Now he has multiple semi-overlapping personalities. The Wanderer who doesn't know Scaramouche (allowing the bird to perch), and Scaramouche, Destroyer of Nations, the sinister ex-Fatui Harbinger (who swats the bird away). He is currently "Evil in reform," as the old Scaramouche would have just killed the bird on sight for daring to inconvenience his line of sight without permission, but lets it (and the Fatui attackers) live.
Asking for directions but ending up finding your own way instead... more or less describes his story arc in 1 line.

Hes from inazuma, he was a puppet created by the electro archon intended to host the gnosis however they saw his as too weak and discarded him. He took this as betrayal rather than freedom. And was cast aside once telling his close friend of his origin, then he met a small boy who died of illness he didn't understand the concept of death meaning once again he felt betrayed. He thinks the gnosis is all he exists for and so he devoted everything to getting it back.
