We knew heading into the season the defense had the most questions. - let Reader go - safety and corner spots not solidified We didn’t anticipate Hubbard being this bad in pass rush or the tackling to be this bad
The Cincinnati Bengals have been my team for a long time. My whole life as a matter of fact. And this is probably one of the worst defenses I've seen them. Have they better find a way to find some more pieces Whether it be free agency or trades or this team does not make the playoffs this year. The offense, it can be top tier, but if their defense is below average, they can not stop the other team from scoring points. We will not win another game. The bengals still have yet to even get into the meet of their schedule. And the ownership of that team, it has a lot of big decisions to make and they better do it sooner than later
Burrow lost in a shootout with a ton of weapons... all his weapons... AND with a decimated DL (which Burrow/coaches knew before the game... knew all week... knew for several weeks bc they had 4 DL injuries before week 1 and then BJ & Rankins got injured vs the chiefs and they signed Guy on Wed/Thurs b4 MNF) So based on that information, what is one of the worse things the offense could do.... not dominate the TOP and not stay in the lead (both help this defense when fully healthy but are required when this defense/DL is decimated with injuries) So if you are a defensive coordinator what is the easiest way to get Burrow off the field quickly if you don't have a good/great defense or even if you do have a good defense? Bait Burrow into a quick TD with a single high safety and/or single coverage on Ja'Marr (everyone knows this is what Burrow and Ja'Marr want because they literally complain about not getting it all the time) So 1st possession- Burrow was on the field for 3:23 after a deep ball to Ja'Marr for a quick TD 2nd possession- Daniels was on the field for 6:12 (almost twice the time = the beginning of wearing down this struggling/decimated defense) 3rd possession - Burrow 5:34, missed FG = 0 points so now their defense & special teams are juiced from stopping any points... momentum is real and that excitement can help their defense get through longer drives in the belief that they can stop Burrow from scoring... which they did on Burrow's next 2 possessions when they forced 2 more field goals so half ends in 21-13 ... and Burrow has ONLY scored 6 points and special teams have scored 7 points in the 1st half After the half... Our defense did force a field goal on Daniels on commanders 2nd possession after the half and score is 31-20 BUT how are the Bengals decimated defense rewarded for making their 1st stop to let the offense catch up and after being on the field for 11:39 since the 2nd half started... Burrow throws another quick TD to Ja'Marr and the offense is only on the field for 1:48 Then the Bengals decimated struggling defense is right back out on the field for 7:32 I get that the offense needs to catch up but Burrow should have given the defense longer than 1:48 OR even better Burrow should have scored more than 0 points on 3 possessions in the 1st half so they weren't in this position (special teams scored 6 points on those 3 possessions in 1st half)... Burrow even said this in his presser - that not scoring more in the 1st half made the biggest difference (Kris Jenkins is out there for some snaps in the 2nd half but hasn't played football since before his surgery and this is his 1st NFL game with a club) IMO Burrow & his offense is being paid and the defense is not so it is on Burrow to win games by taking a lead and keeping a lead. Burrow has received $40M signing bonus last September and a $70M check in March so $110M in bonuses with his new contract so he has all that money that couldn't be used on defense... that some/all was used on multiple other players around him before he got his huge contract. Tee is making $21M and Ja'Marr is making $53M ÷ 5 yrs = $10.6 M per year on his rookie contract and he wants $40M per which will cut into the defense even deeper... So what if throwing go balls or quick TDs to Ja'Marr may actually result in losing games
Got to say it - the hair with the frosted tips or whatever is going on... it was too soon, seriously bad karma for a Bengal, and is looking bad at 0-3.
This team is built to have a lead and have trailed way too often... Week one they gave up 16 points and Week 2 they gave up 19 points... Those losses hurt and are as good as you can expect from the defense... With the DTs out... they are in trouble... Offensive numbers are vastly overrated as this Washington defense is terrible. They had significant injuries as well and this game came down to which offense would carry their team... Daniels the rookie played better against a better defense and the Bengals missed opportunities against a bad Washington defense.
Am I alone in thinking the ownership might be the biggest issue 🤷🏻♀️ it’s entirely possible that the after the absolute disaster of an off-season business wise went, that maybe some of the players have lost faith in their ownership, that the fight they had in them years ago, is just gone…defense has seen multiple people with star power and deserving to be paid get passed on, it’s an offense first team, most of the defense is an afterthought to the team…completely believable that guys lost the drive they once had
Gotta blame Zac Taylor. As awful as the defense was across the board, they wouldve won that game if they tackled even a little better.Taylor has done great things but if he cant get the whole team ready for week 1 instead of week 5 were gonna squander the Burrow years.
Paul Brown Jr., Katie, Troy, and Mike Brown are the problem. Tobin and everyone else swims upstream against the current of stupid. The Brown family is a Nepo Dumpster Fire. Willie Anderson literally has to lobby and convince older players to return to do fan celebrations and the Ring of Honor inductions. It is so telling that great Bengal players need to be convinced and almost bribed to return. That is all on the Nepo Dumpster Fire.
Gametime is a scam btw. Lol it’s got like $50 in fees alone. Got me for the game yesterday. And also, love the coaches, I am tired of this front office and ownership though.

No this can't be fixed. Joe isn't HIM. I don't see Mahomo having these problems at all. Joe is overrated. The defense is always a joke outside of one player (Hendrickson) the rest are JAGS

Things weren't any different under Marvin Lewis so I don't think just changing the HC will be of any significance. There's something structural or higher up that needs to change. Too many common threads from the Marvin Lewis era into the Zac Taylor era. Slow starts, playing up or down to opponents depending on competition, playcalling predictability and malaise. No need for a crystal ball when it's patterned behavior.

They need a new defensive scheme. Now if Lou annoromu can adjust or not. They need to.
I absolutely despise Bengals ownership
Jake is being so real when he says, "I can't laugh about it, James. I'm gonna be honest. I'm glad you can, I can't." Meanwhile, James is rolling on the floor. Sans with the assist!
Barring injury to Joe the Bengals will come around and start playing like a Superbowl winner but by that time they're so far behind the best they can hope for is a Wildcard spot. Then you have to play throughout the playoffs on the road.
Trade Sam Hubbard he is done
@WanderingMonk000 I agree. I'm not ready to give up on him. Not trying to live in the past but dude made some iconic plays for us, also been dealing with injuries off and on. He a local kid so I always root for guys from here. Don't get me wrong I get where fans are coming from but me personally want to give him change to get back on track.
You'd be lucky to get a bottle of Pirelli's Miricle Elixir for him.
Agreed
Should have been traded before the season or in the draft to save the 10 million to pay DJ Reader !!! DJ was Leader in that DT room and boosted everybody’s play regardless of his stats !!
Need Myles Murphy Back ASAP
Cedric Johnson has more speed and bend than Hubbard . Hubbard is washed after all those injury’s way to slow!! Needs to be on the trade block asap !!! But he won’t bc he’s an Ohio kid.
@@bengalselite9588I was begging for them to do that in the offseason but I knew deep down we don’t do stuff like that 😢
Was hoping to hear some film review on Mims. PFF graded him very poorly but it didn't feel like that when I watched the game. He got beat bad on the sack he gave up but that was the major loss I saw
There something about big games such as the previous game at Kansas City
It’s like they emotionally possibly physically exhaust themselves ,look at the Raiders big win over Baltimore and then embarrassing loss to Carolina, just a th😢
All my hope for the season really going down the drain. So many missed opportunities in recent drafts and so many bad decisions in free agency. Catching up to them now.
We knew heading into the season the defense had the most questions.
- let Reader go
- safety and corner spots not solidified
We didn’t anticipate Hubbard being this bad in pass rush or the tackling to be this bad
AND with a decimated DL (which Burrow/coaches knew before the game... knew all week... knew for several weeks bc they had 4 DL injuries before week 1 and then BJ & Rankins got injured vs the chiefs and they signed Guy on Wed/Thurs b4 MNF)
So based on that information, what is one of the worse things the offense could do.... not dominate the TOP and not stay in the lead (both help this defense when fully healthy but are required when this defense/DL is decimated with injuries)
So if you are a defensive coordinator what is the easiest way to get Burrow off the field quickly if you don't have a good/great defense or even if you do have a good defense? Bait Burrow into a quick TD with a single high safety and/or single coverage on Ja'Marr (everyone knows this is what Burrow and Ja'Marr want because they literally complain about not getting it all the time)
So 1st possession- Burrow was on the field for 3:23 after a deep ball to Ja'Marr for a quick TD
2nd possession- Daniels was on the field for 6:12 (almost twice the time = the beginning of wearing down this struggling/decimated defense)
3rd possession - Burrow 5:34, missed FG = 0 points so now their defense & special teams are juiced from stopping any points... momentum is real and that excitement can help their defense get through longer drives in the belief that they can stop Burrow from scoring... which they did on Burrow's next 2 possessions when they forced 2 more field goals so half ends in 21-13 ... and Burrow has ONLY scored 6 points and special teams have scored 7 points in the 1st half
After the half...
Our defense did force a field goal on Daniels on commanders 2nd possession after the half and score is 31-20
BUT how are the Bengals decimated defense rewarded for making their 1st stop to let the offense catch up and after being on the field for 11:39 since the 2nd half started...
Burrow throws another quick TD to Ja'Marr and the offense is only on the field for 1:48
Then the Bengals decimated struggling defense is right back out on the field for 7:32
I get that the offense needs to catch up but Burrow should have given the defense longer than 1:48 OR even better Burrow should have scored more than 0 points on 3 possessions in the 1st half so they weren't in this position (special teams scored 6 points on those 3 possessions in 1st half)... Burrow even said this in his presser - that not scoring more in the 1st half made the biggest difference
(Kris Jenkins is out there for some snaps in the 2nd half but hasn't played football since before his surgery and this is his 1st NFL game with a club)
IMO Burrow & his offense is being paid and the defense is not so it is on Burrow to win games by taking a lead and keeping a lead.
If the Bengals are going to turn this thing around, we need TD's not FG's
And a defence.
James was getting ROASTED on the interwebs today 😂😂
Regardless of what happens the rest of this year this offseason is critical. We need to pivot away from aging vets.
Gametime is a scam btw. Lol it’s got like $50 in fees alone. Got me for the game yesterday. And also, love the coaches, I am tired of this front office and ownership though.
Current Cincy Mayor says, "Will people stop blaming ME for what the former Mayor said. I love Kansas City. In fact, if we lose next week I will quit and move to Kansas City."
This team is going to look completely different next year......
Heard the exact same thing last year.
@@ronhogrefe8465I think he means for the worst tho
This is what happens when u don’t spend the money and make the moves u need to make to get better !! No money being spent and not replacing key players puts you at a major deficit !!
@@JoeyB_over_Lamar how did you come up with that from his comment?
@@ronhogrefe8465 Hahaha context clues man! After his comment he wrote”……” which in my knowledge of the English language would infer that based off the circumstances he’s saying that for the worst
Definitely not gonna be fixed with this same staff.
It's time for some firings.
If we have the same coaches next season I don't think I'm even gonna bother with it.
Jake cracks me up, lol. His humor 🤣 fake grass hahah
Why is zac taylor still employed.
Question of the ages.
Because he went to the superbowl once so this ownership is like oh good we can just keep his mediocre ass and the fans will take it! Less money for us to spend
@@thefruch7588 Yep. Championships require money. Tough being a Bengals fan when you know the ownership is cheap. Get ready for a barren few decades.
Brown needs more carries or needs to be the featured back. When he’s cooking keep him in.
I want Jerry World Reipen back 🤣🤣
It will take 2 years to fix the problems and compete for a SB. 2 years minimum, if everything is done right.
It’s clearly the coaches responsibility to make sure that the guys are healthy. Way too early in the year to be sweet enough already blame it on the coach
Who dey!! It's not over.
How dare this man slander Hende. He is our only pass rush w a depleted line. The rush prot was favored to stop him. He had constant chips at the line. Watch the film. Going off emotion. Bengals defense lacked pass rush and that's the reason he was able to sling it around. Hubbard inj rel or not is not serviceable.
Is tackling fixable? It’s been 2 years.
Man call Geno Atkins 💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥😂😂😂
Being a Bengals fan is
Iike being in a bad 1 sided relationship that I’m close to ending after 28 yrs of being a fan..so tired of the same BS and being let down and their many many questionable decision making yr after yr after yr
Trade Tee for some Defensive help....now flame away 🔥
Probably shouldn't be so surprised that Trent Brown got injured again
Pratt got shook out his shoes a few times also
This defense needs a mean nasty high juice player to give them a identity
Taylors passive attitude is killing the team
The only division with 2 perfect teams
Pittsburgh 3-0
Cincinnati 0-3
Why isn't anyone mentioning the missed FG's
Every one wants an piece of Grass!!!!
The Bengals' 2024 season is done. They better address the defense this off-season.
Wind sprints after practice until they win a game
James,
Is this Locked on or Locked down grass? 😂😂
The Washington offense got too confident. It was going to take a 4th and long to stop them.
4th and long and you saw what happened in KC!
If we are not going to pay Tee we should trade for Hassan Riddick and pay him
or maybe the game has passed Ole Lou by.
Need to fire Lou. This defense is terrible and has been for the past couple of years
Bengals should play for 1st pick @ this point
Cover Grass!!...A Clsssic!
Bengals need to build to run the ball, stop the run,and get more pass rushers...I have typed this for two years...but,better yet leave Cincinnati...you dont get more tax payer money
If the Bengals go 0/4 at the hands of the red rifle Taylor has to go
Bengals have no linebackers. People run through them.
Defense stinks for the first and 3rd weeks!
What about the play wihen the offense had 10 men on the field? Still burnt the Bengals defense for a touchdown. What a pathetic excuse for a football franchise.
We need belichek
Sam Hubbard is done man. Trade him now. Dude is getting strapped.
No this can't be fixed. Joe isn't HIM. I don't see Mahomo having these problems at all. Joe is overrated. The defense is always a joke outside of one player (Hendrickson) the rest are JAGS
It cannot be fixed until they hire a new head coach. Even when that day comes, it will take time after that. Settle in for seasons like this until that happens, I myself won't be around though.
✌️✌️
Yea because the coach plays… oh wait, he doesn’t. Why are the players getting a pass. They have been playing since they were kids
Let me guess, you were a Marvin Lewis fan… do you remember what that was like
I hate this ZT stuff. It’s so goddamn lazy 😂 front office can’t draft (obviously) and they’re cheap when it comes to free agency. Can’t even sign Chase? Yet ZT is the problem. Give me a break. So old.
0-3 😂 damn I thought this was the team to beat in the AFC
They're paid too much. They play with balls. 0-17
