I agree, this was a very unorganized dub. Sorry about that guys. We weren't told what show we were doing before the session. The Director was replaced the night before the recording session, and the actors were limited to listening to a director that had come in at the last moment and wasn't familiar with the show. And we were told, "do not reference the other cast in any way". Many of the actors were also not familiar with the show. (or hadn't watched it as a kid), including myself. I had played Gohan in a video game 20 years earlier, but knew nothing about Goku. It wasn't until I was at the session that I found out I was playing him. I spoke with Sean Schemmel briefly and he advised me to make Goku really young and innocent. So that's how I started it. But after the initial recording session of 8 episodes (the first day). I looked at the character descriptions online, and began to develop a different take on it. By the end of our 19 episodes I was getting closer, but never really was able to show what I had developed because the director wanted to keep it in the style of the first few episodes. (crappy) I've done over 400 characters in my voice acting career, Anime, Video Games, TV, and Major Motion Pictures. Many with Bang Zoom (they are a great production company with lots of great actors) so to all my fans out there, sorry this one was so off base. If I ever get a chance to play Goku again, it will be "my way" and you can bet that it will be totally different, and way better. But until then, enjoy the work I'm doing now on Jojo's, Jujutsu Kaisen, Lupin the Third, The Simpsons, Guild Wars 2, Crash Bandicoot, Doom Patrol and more. And have a great love filled healthy life!

I love this cast you were part of, and I think all of you deserve another chance to show all your experience and talent onto the Dragon Ball characters. I really beg for a spark of hope in the future that you all can be brought back for another Dragon Ball production, you guys are the best of the best of the US english voice acting. With those episodes you got to dub, you guys became my favorite english-speaking Dragon Ball actors already (and I will never forget that you are all part of these characters forever), and that was because with each episode I could feel how you all were adapting and understanding the characters better, step by step, and I know that if you got the chance of a handful more of episodes, you could have reached a perfect result. A fun bit of trivia about the bang zoom dub regarding TFS... apparently Lex Lang (I think it was Lex but don't quote me on it I'm very likely wrong on who it was), wanted one Martin Billany (known to many people as the one and only LittleKurriboh) to be their Frieza, to the point of setting up a petition around it! No Joke... Martin "LittleKurriboh" Billany came this close to playing Frieza in real life...
Because the english speaking countries have different cultures and therefore different interpretations. Dubbing isn't just voicing over in another language, there's a whole job of transmitting the original ideas in a way that both the japanese and the other viewers receive the same message. Something funny in Japan is not funny in USA nor India. Flirting in India is completely different from flirting in Canada. So these regions have to have their own interpretations of the story, so it can hold up to the what the original intented.
Lex Lang also voices Dr. Cortex in the newer Crash Bandicoot games... I just can't take his performence in DBS seriously. I'm always imagining an evil square headed scientist when I hear that voice...
I’m going to be honest this felt a bit mean spirited. Sometimes people are part of a terrible project and it’s really hard to know where it went wrong. For the actors and talent that was part of it though it’s hard to have your career defined by one bad job.
I don't think it was mean spirited by TNM. He was just criticizing the atrocious dub and even praised a bit of it. Bedsides, this bad dub of Dragon Ball Super won't end the careers of the voice actors since this isn't their first rodeo.

TurlesOfTheSand oh yeah, they don't match any personality's what so ever, but they're still hilarious in showing how the characters are ironically portrayed, nappa was an idiot for over thinking himself, popo ate a beam from kid Goku and beat both goten and trunks in super Saiyan form. Gohan should because Goku is a shitty dad. And Goku has a lot, and I mean a lot if idiot moments. Basically taking those aspects of them and putting them into characters others wanted rather than needed.
Honestly, while Lex Lang's performance as Goku leaves a lot to be desired, I feel that the actual sound of his voice provides a nice take on the character. It sounds...soft and carefree, like a more chilled variation off Schemmel's take. It really reminds me of when Goku was a teen, so I like it! With a much better script, and adequate direction, I do think Lex could pull off a memorable Goku. It's just a shame the chances of that happening are equal to escaping the Dead Zone.
If I am being honest, I feel like Bang Zoom just wasn’t trying. I have heard there dub for Jojo, hunter x hunter, konosuba and Mob psycho and they weren’t that bad. I actually enjoyed them

The dubs for KLK and Jojo are both top notch. Don't judge the company based on one dub. They've made countless other great dubs. Haruhi, Toradora, Fate Zero, Gurren Lagann, Durarara, OPM, MP100, Seven Deadly Sins, Blood Lad and much more.
smileykid18 There are some good voices, though. Chris Hackney as Gohan, Jamieson Price as Mr. Satan, Kaiji Tang as Vegeta, John Demita as Beerus, Doug Erholtz as Whis, Erica Mendez as Kid Trunks, Ray Chase as Piccolo, Kirk Thornton as Champa. The direction is the main problem.
Bang Zoom make some good dubs. It's just this one is weirdly directed, the people working on it are talented, Wendee Lee, Michelle Ruff, Spike Spencer, Derek Stephen Prince, just to name a few.
Fun fact : This "thing" has been canceled after 2 arcs. Bang Zoom's voice actor for Vados has said that they didn't record anything in 6 months and Toonami Asia is not asking them to dub new episodes. Just found out so I wanted to share this wonderful news with all of you.

Sean is the best goku and so Is sabat for vegeta, you see on the og funimation dbz english dub their voice acting wasn't that good but on kai everything was so much better except for the music and gohan's voice.
First of all only available quality of this dub is currently 240p ones recorded by someguy from india and this guy dosen't mention any other characters except lex lang's goku.. Honestly performances were great by almost all of the cast, This guy is just cherry picking on some bad take and confusing people to think whole dub was bad, Fuck him!! If you have seen only lex's performance of goku from seaosn 1 that's defenetly the case but if you check out rest of the cast especially VA's of krillin, Gohan, whis and almost all female VA's and how amazing job they did you will understand what i meant.. Looking at 2 clips available on youtube and acting as if whole dub is as bad as big green dub or something is just plane ridiculous, That's just pure misleading!! Of course their they aren't funimation so they are going to sound different and screams are heard off because of bad recoding or sound mixing isn't clear yet. But are they really bad?? Bang Zoom is a good dubbing studio. "Kill la Kill" and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" are both done well, it's not hard to look up good examples of their dubs. You have to remember that they're an independent studio that gets contracted by different licensing and production companies. They're not in-charge of these properties and it's not as black-and-white as "not everyone can be a FUNimation". Also, have you seen FUNImation's original dub of "DBZ"? It's actually pretty terrible.
Samuel Einhorn DBZ fans have nostalgia glasses glued to the face to see how bad the original FUNI dub of DBZ was. The DBS dub isn’t officially cancelled (despite what the fans say), but if it was, i’d be annoyed to see it cut short considering it has potential.
I speak spanish, and saw like one or two episodes of DBZ dub in english by FUNanimation. Except for Bulma's voice (in spanish it's so annoying omg), everything was... meh. Like, exagerated? I don't know how to explain myself.
Lang has worked for Bang Zoom before, namely in the Ruroni Kenshin dub as Sanosuke (which he was really good as in my opinion). Bang Zoom is actually one of the best dubbing studios out there (unless you are a sub snob) and did the fantastic Gurren Lagann dub, Haruhi Suzumiya, Eureka Seven, The Seven Deadly Sins, Kill La Kill, S-cry-ed and Samurai Champloo just to name a few. Even the Ruroni Kenshin dub, while old and suffering from some old fashioned localizing problems, had a great cast, especially Steven Blum as Shishio and Dorthy Fawn as Kaoru. Keep in mind too, that the actors have no control over what they are told to do in a dub. If the producers tell them to sound a certain way, they can't just say no. For example, Goku's FUNimation actor once had to play a mammoth doing an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression. He was told to do that, he didn't just decide to do that on his own. On top of this, it's a foreign company calling the shots so even if Bang Zoom wanted to do a dub similar to Funi's, they couldn't. I should also point out that FUNimation has contracted out to Bang Zoom such as for RE: Zero and Mob Psycho. So obviously the guys that do the normal dub of Dragon Ball don't have a problem with them.
It's sad that this dub is so bad since it has so many good voice actors in it. It's a testament to how poor voice direction can make good voice actors piss poor. Toonami Asia seriously couldn't wait for FUNimation - the irony is that both dubs ended up being released at the same time. Sadly, this dub isn't cancelled but it's going as slow as shit, probably since Toonami Asia is regretting commissioning their own dub. Also; Lex has done plenty of work of Bang Zoom! - only one that comes to mind is Sanosuke Sagara in "Rurouni Kenshin". Which is quite a far cry from his Goku - it makes it hard to believe it's the same voice actor.
A buddy of mine was a cast member for this particular dub. When I brought it up to him that the BZ dub was canceled according to online articles he pretty much told me he had no idea, he figured he got recasted since he was a particular reoccurring role or that the country it was being aired on hadn't ordered more episodes yet. I don't think he even had seen a single episode of this variant either. But he wasn't bothered by this coming to an end it seemed. He just moved onto his other projects.
I can only assume that it would have cost too much money to license the Funi dub for whatever countries this was aired in, so they outsourced it to Bang Zoom to make it for cheap Bang Zoom, upon realizing they were making a dub for a primarily non-english-speaking audience, figured they could just engage in Jokes and not take it seriously

In reality it is within the time that CN Latin-America transmits DBS and DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters. DBS is transmitted at 1:00 a.m and DBZ kai is transmitted at 1:30 a.m.
I don't really understand how it's a bad dub. It's just that these character actors don't really have the feel of the characters. It's got some good choices, like Ginyu, Frieza, especially Vegeta. It also just kinda suffers because it's on Cartoon Network.

I've never heard of BangZoom before but I watched Kill la Kill dub. It was actually pretty good. Maybe that also has two dubs and the one I watched was the one that wasn't by BangZoom
Edward Miller The official Aniplex dub was done by Bang Zoom. Bang Zoom isn't an official licensor like FUNimation or Viz Media, they're a dubbing studio like Okatron is for FUNi. They're the default studio for Viz Media, so all their recent dubs, such as Naruto, Bleach, and HunterxHunter, are done by Bang Zoom. Geneon was also a big partner of Bang Zoom, so if you watched any of their dubs, most likely you watched a Bang Zoom dub. Aniplex of America also exclusively uses Bang Zoom, so all of their dubs, like Anohana and the various Fate series, are dubbed by Bang Zoom. FUNimation has also worked with them a handful of times, most notably Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and Mob Psycho 100. They're also one of the default studios for non-Shonen Jump video game releases nowadays, most notably the Dangenronpa series. They've also made an series of DVD documentaries called "Adventures in Voice Acting" and used to make a weekly anime review show called AnimeTV (starring Johnny Young Bosch).
I am from india and I have never heard of this studio ever! And the number people who watch dbs here is very low, so they just watch it online! I feel bad about this to be honest.
I started watching Cartoon Network and DBS was on and I realized something was off. That's when I realized that the Funimation dubs don't air here. I feel REALLY bad for the kids today, the cartoons they have are either Doraemon, Chota Bheem, or this shit version of DBS.
Unfun Fact: The reason why Goku screeches like a neutered Bruce Lee when he attacks in this dub is because one of the first roles Lex Lang had as a voice actor was as Kenshiro in Manga Entertainment's dub of Fist of the North Star. Ironically enough Vegeta's voice actor in the Bang Zoom dub; Keiji Tang, has also voiced Kenshiro prior to this role, voicing him (far more competantly) in Koei Tecmo's Ken's Rage series.
I thought for sure you were going to comment on Lex Lang voicing Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. It seems to me that he's clearly channeling that performance during Goku's fight scenes.

I’m going to be honest this felt a bit mean spirited. Sometimes people are part of a terrible project and it’s really hard to know where it went wrong. For the actors and talent that was part of it though it’s hard to have your career defined by one bad job.
I don't think it was mean spirited by TNM. He was just criticizing the atrocious dub and even praised a bit of it. Bedsides, this bad dub of Dragon Ball Super won't end the careers of the voice actors since this isn't their first rodeo.

TurlesOfTheSand oh yeah, they don't match any personality's what so ever, but they're still hilarious in showing how the characters are ironically portrayed, nappa was an idiot for over thinking himself, popo ate a beam from kid Goku and beat both goten and trunks in super Saiyan form. Gohan should because Goku is a shitty dad. And Goku has a lot, and I mean a lot if idiot moments. Basically taking those aspects of them and putting them into characters others wanted rather than needed.
Honestly, while Lex Lang's performance as Goku leaves a lot to be desired, I feel that the actual sound of his voice provides a nice take on the character. It sounds...soft and carefree, like a more chilled variation off Schemmel's take. It really reminds me of when Goku was a teen, so I like it! With a much better script, and adequate direction, I do think Lex could pull off a memorable Goku. It's just a shame the chances of that happening are equal to escaping the Dead Zone.
If I am being honest, I feel like Bang Zoom just wasn’t trying. I have heard there dub for Jojo, hunter x hunter, konosuba and Mob psycho and they weren’t that bad. I actually enjoyed them

The dubs for KLK and Jojo are both top notch. Don't judge the company based on one dub. They've made countless other great dubs. Haruhi, Toradora, Fate Zero, Gurren Lagann, Durarara, OPM, MP100, Seven Deadly Sins, Blood Lad and much more.

The Kill La Kill English dub is honestly better than the Japanese dub, and I watched the series as it was airing in Japan.

Sean is the best goku and so Is sabat for vegeta, you see on the og funimation dbz english dub their voice acting wasn't that good but on kai everything was so much better except for the music and gohan's voice.

Bang Zoom is a good dubbing studio. "Kill la Kill" and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" are both done well, it's not hard to look up good examples of their dubs. You have to remember that they're an independent studio that gets contracted by different licensing and production companies. They're not in-charge of these properties and it's not as black-and-white as "not everyone can be a FUNimation". Also, have you seen FUNImation's original dub of "DBZ"? It's actually pretty terrible.
Samuel Einhorn DBZ fans have nostalgia glasses glued to the face to see how bad the original FUNI dub of DBZ was.
The DBS dub isn’t officially cancelled (despite what the fans say), but if it was, i’d be annoyed to see it cut short considering it has potential.
I speak spanish, and saw like one or two episodes of DBZ dub in english by FUNanimation. Except for Bulma's voice (in spanish it's so annoying omg), everything was... meh. Like, exagerated? I don't know how to explain myself.

Samuel Einhorn - I haven't seen their Kill la Kill dub, but their JoJo's one was one of the worst dubs I've ever seen in anime history.
Lang has worked for Bang Zoom before, namely in the Ruroni Kenshin dub as Sanosuke (which he was really good as in my opinion). Bang Zoom is actually one of the best dubbing studios out there (unless you are a sub snob) and did the fantastic Gurren Lagann dub, Haruhi Suzumiya, Eureka Seven, The Seven Deadly Sins, Kill La Kill, S-cry-ed and Samurai Champloo just to name a few. Even the Ruroni Kenshin dub, while old and suffering from some old fashioned localizing problems, had a great cast, especially Steven Blum as Shishio and Dorthy Fawn as Kaoru. Keep in mind too, that the actors have no control over what they are told to do in a dub. If the producers tell them to sound a certain way, they can't just say no. For example, Goku's FUNimation actor once had to play a mammoth doing an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression. He was told to do that, he didn't just decide to do that on his own. On top of this, it's a foreign company calling the shots so even if Bang Zoom wanted to do a dub similar to Funi's, they couldn't. I should also point out that FUNimation has contracted out to Bang Zoom such as for RE: Zero and Mob Psycho. So obviously the guys that do the normal dub of Dragon Ball don't have a problem with them.

Toonami Asia seriously couldn't wait for FUNimation - the irony is that both dubs ended up being released at the same time. Sadly, this dub isn't cancelled but it's going as slow as shit, probably since Toonami Asia is regretting commissioning their own dub.
Also; Lex has done plenty of work of Bang Zoom! - only one that comes to mind is Sanosuke Sagara in "Rurouni Kenshin". Which is quite a far cry from his Goku - it makes it hard to believe it's the same voice actor.

A buddy of mine was a cast member for this particular dub. When I brought it up to him that the BZ dub was canceled according to online articles he pretty much told me he had no idea, he figured he got recasted since he was a particular reoccurring role or that the country it was being aired on hadn't ordered more episodes yet. I don't think he even had seen a single episode of this variant either. But he wasn't bothered by this coming to an end it seemed. He just moved onto his other projects.
The reason for missing episodes on website is Indian Cartoon network doesn't show DBS episode in an order. They play random episode

I don't really understand how it's a bad dub. It's just that these character actors don't really have the feel of the characters. It's got some good choices, like Ginyu, Frieza, especially Vegeta. It also just kinda suffers because it's on Cartoon Network.

They're the default studio for Viz Media, so all their recent dubs, such as Naruto, Bleach, and HunterxHunter, are done by Bang Zoom.
Geneon was also a big partner of Bang Zoom, so if you watched any of their dubs, most likely you watched a Bang Zoom dub.

Unfun Fact: The reason why Goku screeches like a neutered Bruce Lee when he attacks in this dub is because one of the first roles Lex Lang had as a voice actor was as Kenshiro in Manga Entertainment's dub of Fist of the North Star.
Ironically enough Vegeta's voice actor in the Bang Zoom dub; Keiji Tang, has also voiced Kenshiro prior to this role, voicing him (far more competantly) in Koei Tecmo's Ken's Rage series.
