- a compilation of some of the best that dragon ball dubs have to offer. if you dont know, the AB Groupe dub, also called the big green dub (for reasons that will... become apparent in the video), was a dub of some of the dbz movies and specials. you can read up more about it here (dragonball.fan..., but basically the company that was dubbing dbz at the time used a bunch of voice actors in france to dub the movies despite already having a set of voice actors doing the main series. it sucks. the voice acting sucks dick, and the names of the characters are butchered to a occasionally unbelievable degree (and it's inconsistent, too; i swear the voice actors switch between pronouncing "gohan" correctly and incorrectly at least two or three times in this film). it's still nothing if not entertaining, though. this video specifically covers Movie 5, Cooler's Revenge (although its Movie 4 in this dub because they mislabeled all of their films when they were released physically for some reason). also, in the final fight of the film, the voice actor for cooler just completely drops any pretenses of restraining himself and just goes apeshit. he is one of the best things to ever come out of this dub and i can honestly admit i prefer the voice over the "actual" english dub voice for him. fun fact! this video took like 6 fucking uploads/edits to get it on youtube without it getting copyright blocked in every region short of antarctica. anyways, enjoy the video. no goodbye :(

The edits make this compilation even better than it is.
A little bit of clarification on "The company that was dubbing DBZ at the time": The company that made this also oversaw the European dubs of DBZ, Dragon Ball, and Dragon Ball GT. That company was AB Groupe, based in France. And now known under some other name I don't remember.
Those dubs were, respectively:
The "Westwood Dub" of Dragon Ball Z, recorded by Ocean Group in the early 2000s using Funimation's scripts, starting near the beginning of the Android saga as opposed to where they originally stopped dubbing the show the first time, in the middle of the Freezer saga.
Guess he was no longer worthy of their convenance. *He's gone.*
Then there was the Blue Water dubs of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT, where they got lazy and didn't even bother getting Ocean and instead went for some budget studio called Blue Water Studios, also based out of Canada.
I think this dub was recorded sometime near the end of the Westwood dub, which I believe ended in 2003. And the reason they didn't spring for Ocean or Blue Water?
Well, to quote Big Green King Kai in their dub of the Broly movie:
"Ihavenoidea."
That company also dubbed the series (OG, Z and GT) in France in 1988, 1990 and 1997-1999 (pre-Kai era).
@@cloudusman90 also they apparently worked with other countries' dubs. The non-latin spanish dub, as well as the catalan and galician dubs basically used (sometimes poorly) translated scripts from the french dub. This led to some nonsensical translations of techniques and Saiyans being named "space warriors" like in the Big Green dub up until GT. Kind of a "Broken telephone" type scenario, basically.
Speaking of AB Groupe, one time they worked with Horus Label to do a Dragon Ball-themed soundtrack (around the time when DBZ debuted in Spain). The results are, Spain's original songs, dubbed versions of the French OST that was never used on TV (except Z's French intro), instrumental version of the Z intro and a Catalan version of the same French intro.
The laughably bad European Portuguese dub is a translation of Ariane's Dragon Ball Z theme song from the Club Dorothee block.

Honestly this sounds like a bunch of kids play fighting or smashing action figures together and I kind of love it.
In fact I have ran D&D games with kids in the single digit age range. This is the exact sort of dialogue they give, only spoken in adult voices.
I once saw someone compare the Big Green dub voice acting to when you're playing a video game with lots of dialogue and you try doing all the voices yourself.

They have that as official name of the saiyans in the French dub of

Idk. Even if these lines were delivered impeccably, 98% of them just sound unnatural. Funimation’s speech is more casual and natural. A lot of these lines just feel like they belong to a more serious or antiquated literary body of work than Dragon Ball lol
