I finally find out about the couple. They are still happily together and still live in Korea. Gareth is now 43 years old and they both still look young. Their kids also grown up and true mix of english and korean.

Those stairs, should be done everyday for hygiene and safety reasons...🤔 all the family use the stairs... this chapter is so good to learn and understand the korean culture and language too! Lovely family, helping each other👍
He is not rude. It just cultural difference. His talking is way Westerners talk. They have open conversation with everyone not like asian culture where youngers do not talk openly with elders. In asian culture it is rude. He being Westerner talked like that which his wife felt is rude. We asian take help of our old parents in house hold work because it our culture. Western people like to do by themselves. He was pointing that only which his wife did not understand. He is not korean she should be understanding and should have explained him the korean way. I asian culture parents even grandparents interferes in young people life but westerners don't do that. Just a simple misunderstanding because of language barrier and culture difference.

He seems like a good person, completely tossing the life he knew away to go to Korea with the woman he loves and to help her father who he had never met previously. But he seems a bit spoiled or stubborn the way he reacts to his mother-in-law doing things for them or trying to be thoughtful. I know it's two different culture and ways of thinking, but when it came to the mother-in-law cleaning or bringing food to them etc he was pretty rude about it. I wonder how the marriage has gone since this was filmed.

Would the mother-in-law like it if he entered her bedroom and started hoovering ? A married couples bedroom is a very private domain .

Hmm... It's hard for the 70 years old mother to get it especially since the daughter doesn't get it, so she can't explain it to her in a good, right, Korean way. She is the problem there, in a complicated situation live in the same house.. At least for most of us. I have a mother like that, that doesn't understand personal space... Partener or not, I can't live with her...
I think Gareth just feels annoyed and guilty that he's not able to do all the housework himself. He feels a lot of pressure to be the perfect husband, son-in-law, etc. There's a mix of guilt and embarrassment when his mother-in-law seems to take charge in his own house. But to the mother-in-law, she only lives upstairs so it's a bit like she thinks they all live in one big house together and pitching in to her isn't a big deal. The boundaries and the desire for privacy that Westerners have aren't understandable to these traditional Koreans and I actually don't blame them. Gareth lives in Korea, with a large extended Korean family so it's up to him to adapt -- difficult to do at first, but it isn't going to be the larger extended family that is going to adapt to him. Anyway, this is a very charming family. Gareth tries very hard and I'm really impressed with his willingness to embrace his Korean family, the language and the Korean culture.
