One of the best songs I have ever heard ❤

While I understand the historical context of this song, I've never particularly interpreted Diamanda's version as speaking to slavery.
Given her other work (in particular "Plague Mass"), it seems she's using this song to express some of the despair, confusion, and frustration felt by members of communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
That's not to say that everyone should/will love Galas - simply that we should remember that part of art is recontextualizing what has alerady been made.

Gay husband? Immediately thumbs up! And from my fav Diamanda record, You Must Be Certain Of The Devil with that awesome dedication: "I dedicate this album to my brothers & sisters, Persons With Aids, who now live & die in fear."
That was back in '88. We don't die anymore, but we still live in fear. HIV+

she has tattooed "we are all HIV+" on her fingers :)

Can you kindly explain why "gay husband" deserves your immediate thumbs up?

THis is the best version I've heard her sing. All good but this tops the others of her on Utube. I first heard the song in the movie PARANOID and it just took me in. So fantastically eerie and deep.... Peace...

i would love to hear her bring down a "Dies Irae"... composer of her choice of course (unless she composed it herself). i would probably have to tie myself to the chair with rope when she sang it, but ohhhhhhh.
and not to be too much of a total geek but with 'cymatics' experiments and infrasound running amok, i would LOVE to get her and her voice involved and watch its literal effects on matter. for instance have a plate of water or sand or whatever connected to receive the actual frequencies of her singing.... or, i did not know that a full grown male tiger actually has infrasound within its full roar and in its low growls... meant to basically paralyze its prey.... and it can. i remember listening with really good headphones, and of course you cant hear it but your body immediately knows. could you imagine if she included such in backing tracks when she performed?

fudloe, I don't think is a problem, it's not your duty to appreciate Diamanda. I really love her music, but you don't have to do the same.
    she's not for everyone.
I really can't stand these situations wherein you have to convince someone that this artist or that artist is great or bad or anything else. I don't think anybody's worth can be demonstrate in a systematic way. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. Stop.

Uh! GOD! It's like when you burn the roof of your mouth in hot pizza, and you keep jamming your tongue against it, even though it hurts really badly! I listen to this song (well, like 30 seconds of it) over and over, simply to annoy myself! Still isn't growing on me in a positive way, however.

@ojoroto I am forever grateful to be filtered and separated from people who give this sort of self indulgent pap credence. Thank you, Diamanda for making my life unencumbered from those with bad taste. Oh, and I just posted an opinion. Your reply made it a dialogue. So, there you go.

I retract all previous derisive comments about Ms. Galas. Having said that, I must qualify THIS statement by saying I still can't stand her...HOWEVER- While enjoying Tom Waits, it dawned on me that he, like Ms. Galas, has a polarizing effect on his listeners. It is a love 'em or hate 'em situation and although I still find this woman completely annoying and talentless, it is because she is simply not my cup of tea. Although I am still not a fan, I get it. Sorry to anyone I have annoyed.

fudloe you and all the other pigs, what the fuck are you even doing here??? Duh 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ you fucking love her secretly LOL

Your sincerity needed not the word ''talentless''.

  • @fudloe

@ojoroto In short, 1.)Yes, she has no basis to sing it from and it is insulting to descendants of actual slaves, 2.) Yes, Because I am familiar with pretense, 3.)Yes, because I can observe.
Finally, I am coming from my own opinion. Being mine, it is unavailable to your grasp.
And in that vein, allow me to put it as bluntly as possible, odd does not equal good. There are only two kinds of music, good and bad. This, by the simple definition of what is music, is bad. Maybe good art,bad music.
