In meiner meinung: Yes, it's true that we each as humans need to create our own meaning in life and find purpose, happiness, etc. in our own way. However, interacting with the world is inherently part of the human experience.
Speaking from my own culture (American/US), generally we tend to overvalue independence, almost, if not fully to a pathological extent. But this denies our innate humanness and necessity for experiences that allow us to feel connected to our world. We evolved as social creatures and need connection with other people and our world to survive. You simply can't meditate or transcend your way out of evolution. It's natural & healthy to have both connection to self and others/die Welt/Natur/Musik/Kultur/Essen/Gemeinschaft, usw.
I agree with you in that there is a huge benefit to things like connection to self, introspection, and self-awareness, but it's not the only thing that's important to live a healthy & fulfilling life. (:
