Looking back at the intro, I realise that there was never an AD-9. Just endless versions of AD-889 as shown on the pills. Fuckin hell, Shono probably knew this.
Been a Yakuza fan since PS3 days, but this hands down was one of the best introductions to a title the franchise has ever seen. Incredibly stylish with a killer music track, with some very subtle foreshadowing.

New smile shows clear malicious intent. Old smile imo was better in terms of showing his character because it didn't seem intentionally malicious, it seemed as though he was holding back and had something to hide.
Nah, I feel like the new smile is better because Hamura resembles a demon and shows how much of his humanity he had to sacrifice to keep the Matsugane family afloat.
Upon checking the previous face for Hamura, I think this one suits him better since he ends up redeeming himself a bit. The old face looks way too evil.
This is the game that got me to actually look into the Yakuza series as a whole and as such, I've developed a deep love and appreciation for this and the games that came before 💙

The opening to this game was so captivating to me, I didn't even realize I was playing the prologue until it played the intro. 😢 I finished this game a few days ago and I nearly started crying because of how well put together it was and the outro to the game was amazing, I'm actually replaying the game because of how much I enjoyed it ❤

havent played the game yet or seen the japan version but my theory on why some people get dusted in the opening and some dont is that the people who get dusted are the ones that die in the story eventually

MAJOR SPOILER (WARNING): It's awesome that when Kuroiwa turns his face and it got covered in shadows, you can notice his eyes turning to AD9 eyes right before the scenes cuts to him walking. This is a major spoiler that you definitely need to finish the game and pay enough attention back to the opening to notice, and this makes it even more fantastic!
That makes no sense as he's never dosed nor does he know about why the eyes turn blue until the VERY end. As he's dying and looks at shono he says something like "now I see why". Its just light catching his eye as he turns his head, he does it fairly often, especially during the last fight. He always looks at Tak at a weird angle then shifts his eyes before he attacks. Have a peek at the dynamic scenes in the last battle. Regardless, I had this fucker pegged as soon as I saw him. Slick hair, shifty eyes and despite him clearly knowing Ayabe was selling Police intel he didn't shop him, bent copper.

It doesn't have to make as much sense as he, himself be one of AD9 subjects, tu put it that way on the opening. To me it just gives it more sense, when he's the one "behind" the deads, when in fact the thats are caused by the experiments in fact. You have the right to thing the other way tho :D

A year and a half later and this Intro still slaps. I wished the other RGG games had intros like these.
This and lost judgment are the only games in this series that I didn't skip the intro.
