I've played in gigging bands for the past decade, and there's almost always SOME sort of issue. Lots of bands don't have the luxury of affording their own techs, so we have to handle everything onstage ourselves as the song is playing lol.
I've had guitars cutting out, cable issues on boards, monitor problems, you name it. If he can't improvise when shit goes sideways, maybe MGK isn't cut out for live performing.

From what I’ve seen from different angles of the video, he asked the crew guy for a new guitar since the one he performed with was out of tune and the crew member either refused or just didn’t hear him, then they tried cutting him off early during that song, which to him is a very personal and emotional song since it’s both for his wife and for his unborn child which he lost to a miscarriage, so I can understand the frustration but I feel there are better ways to handle it
He should tune it himself like a real "musician" is. Yes there are reasons to have a guitar tech to bring out another guitar but if its a tuning issue, thats a you problem you tune it yourself. Unless if its a string snap or its broken then that'd be necessary for use. I feel bad for the guitar tech in that show

my fiancé spent about 15 years of his life playing live, touring + playing festivals, often overseas from the US where language barriers can arise, so I showed him this video. He said that tech issues can be incredibly embarrassing/ frustrating for the musician, but abusing a staff member in front of an audience is NEVER the right move. He said for artists of this caliber, most issues are worked out before a show + many productions even have gestures, or words they can say really quick in between verses or songs so the sound crew knows what they need. Fiancé wondered if MGK missed his own sound check lol or maybe a string broke or something (which true musicians could play through or quickly grab another guitar). MGK just looks like an asshole diva.

thats exactly what it was, i was there 25 feet from stage in the pit, before this clip he asked for his pink guitar probably 5 times for the final breakdown jam of the final song of the show, and it never got there... then he couldnt extend the slower part of the song anymore and the guitar wasnt there so he lost his shit.... i would of too, first show at msg and sold out, last song you dont want that shit to happen

i was there, in the pit, dead center.... before that incident for about 2 minutes i could read his lips and he kept asking for his pink guitar, so he and the bajnd kept th song going improvising and then after mgk asking multiple times for his guitar it never came up and thats when he ran over.,.. it was the last song, "twin floame" and right before the breakdown and jam so he needed his guitar and never got it

The guitar playing at the end is incredible and his big finish was basically sabotaged... and they turned off his mic. Well, I *have* been a tech at MSG 3x … backline techs are core members of the group typically… it’s possible he was new, but more than likely the artist was being a prick. Many of them don’t have the vocabulary or musical knowledge to voice what’s wrong which can easily lead to frustration. Something will ALWAYS go wrong every week. You get paid to fix it quickly. Yelling I’ll fffking kill you is a good way to get your teeth bashed out here in Nashville. My .02

They had been messing things up all night, and on the last song, they didn't bring him his guitar and he spent the entire last song looking for and asking for his guitar and it never came. There are videos everywhere with the entire footage and from different angles that confirm their story. Plus I saw him live twice just last month, and at both shows, they ended it with 4 guitarist on stage playing the last part together. You can see there are only 3 and he is missing his.

Hes yelling at the guitar tech, hence him smashing the guitar, and closing the top of the guitar techs workbox. I Worked his show a week after, everything seemed fine and he was extra nice to everyone.. fans, thanking the local crew, lol. The roadie crew did mention they are getting no sleep on this tour and the schedule was horrible. At our venue We started work at 4 am and ended at 2 am the next day, so everyone not doing blow on that crew is exausted. As a guitar player and a daughter of a guitar player i can tell you some types of Guitars really resist staying in tune if they arent set up perfectly, and it will piss u off if yr trying to play in front of people. Changes in temp and Humidity can fuck with how yr guitar stays in tune. Guitars are fussy. My dad has smashed guitars on stage because of that reason and he didnt even have a guitar technician to get pissed at. Its still pretty unprofessional and childish.. but have you met many musicians? Lol.

He becomes obsessive about certain things, like after his #1 album, that was all he thought about and spent his time on, seemingly to the point of neglecting some of the most important people in his life.
