    I did that EQ mastery tutorial all night last night on Nail The Mix- it was like 5$
    When I got back to my room after my oil field shift studying it all night, I NAILED all my parts. It was incredible.
    I totally recommend it. I’ll probably never have EQ problems ever again.

    Nail the mix contest “best mix” using one eq move on each track.

    • @shipofthesun
      @shipofthesun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Easy. None. You should make none changes to eq, if at all possible. Mic placement and selection.

    • @commit123
      @commit123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@shipofthesun lol i guarantee you the best mic placement in the world on everything in a mix with no eq would sound like complete shit compared to a very well heavily eq'd moderately recorded song

    • @shipofthesun
      @shipofthesun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@commit123 You clearly missed the mic choice part. I've been recording music and editing it for 40 years. I may have some small experience with mics and recording in every type of venue and style of music/program. I own mics that cost more than your entertainment system, and learned to edit with razor blade and tape. Owned 2 studios, and have done more field recording than most engineers do in the studio. To be blunt, let the adults speak, and try and learn something in the process.

    Nice video. Always start simple. Sometimes just a little shelf is all the sound needs.
    My other tip to new mixers: don't go nuts with the amount of cuts and boosts. Tiny moves. When I first started, I'd cut/ boost 10+/- db on everything. That is a great way to completely lose track of your sound and your song.
    Now for me it's 1db bump, check mix, 1 DB bump, check mix. I rarely find anything that needs more than 3db in either direction anymore.

    I never had problems with eq for some reason. But compression still gives me problems after years of messing with it. I am much better with it but I like my mixes without it more. I get tons of compliments on the sound of my bands first album. No compression. I didn't use a limiter either. Just mixed it to the level I wanted which was -14 db but it has about 12-14 db of DR. Actually two songs on it had compression and they sound horrible.
