You're such a wonderful mother, stocking your daughter up! That's great that she was checking her Walmart app while she was at Aldi's and comparing. You've taught her well! She's going to do just fine at adulting.

I hear that a LOT! I feel your pain. You’re an awesome mom for doing so. But hey, just ask them what would they do if they lost their job tomorrow? Laid off? Had to take medical leave? You can only help so much. It’s not preparing for doomsday- this is real life and stuff happens. I wish you blessings and peace while you do this alone

I am a daughter who’s parents aren’t stocking up. So I try to stock extra for them. When the pandemic started and everything shut down my then 12 year old asked me if we were going to starve while he was crying. That was enough for me to start prepping and I haven’t stopped. Plant if you have space.

Omg I can’t imagine how it must of felt as a mother having a young child scared about starving
I’m so glad you’re on top of it now
Our young kids depend on us to make the right decisions
I feel so bad for families that aren’t preparing right now
I don’t want to be in a mile long line in the hot sun waiting for rations from pantries and not knowing if I’ll make it home because someone that didn’t want to wait in line just takes the food from me
Sorry I’m thinking of weird scenarios

A skateboard would have been a great thing to have. My husband works weird shifts and I always go to Lowes, Menards, or Home Depot my myself. I bought a cheap skateboard and keep it in the truck. That way when I need to transport anything heavy, it helps having the wheels, and it's small enough to keep upside down under the passenger seat.

This is one of my favorite comments- but you can. Wherever you live go to Google and put in “buy nothing” then city and state. Example buynothinghoustontexas
Then scroll down to one with a Facebook page and join. If you need something just kindly ask if someone has it- like I really need to make a pantry does anyone have a tall bookshelf they no longer need. People respond to needs. Get a bookshelf free and fill it with foods she eats a little at a time. Hit the food pantries, buy sales. I couldn’t come close to what I wanted to do for her - I just pulled every penny I had and stuff from my pantry and went for it. You’re a good momma. You’ll figure it out 😁

We switched to using the wraps off butter to grease pans, and it saves buying spray. We fold those in half and keep them in the frig. We learned that on you tube! Also, ziploc baggies we use for a few things, but for long term storage a vacuum sealer keeps the food longer. Congrats on the freezer! Good video.

When I was still working and my daughter’s family was struggling I drove up to her house and took her shopping, too. Now, my husband and I have been prepping, bought an upright freezer last year, kept our old side by side refrigerator when we got a new one and have filled all the freezers. This year I got a Foodsaver and I love it. I’ve been able to vacuum seal full bags of flour after opening the seal, folding it over and putting a piece of tape on it. I’ve also put 3 cups of bread flour in paper lunch bags that I labeled, dated, cut down, folded over once and taped and vacuumed sealed for bread making later. Moms take care of their kids.

Three years ago I measured to fit bins in my freezer. I was finding stuff at the bottom that was 2 years old 😂 I thought, I’ve got to better. Now I know where everything is 😄 BRW my foodsaver has been my best investment! It keeps my food SO fresh 😀

Thank you, this was so interesting! I live in Finland and I compared your prices to ours: you have cheaper oils, everything with peanuts and canned food. We have cheaper paper products, like toilet paper. We don't have that many canned food at all and they are quite expensive. Meat is expensive everywhere now, it seems, as is fish too. Also, we can't grow any kind of nuts here, so they are expensive in every product. I like the way you put meet and fish in the freezer. Well planned 😏 👌

I have preached and preached to my grown kids. Daughter and her family are leaving on a cruise Saturday. They have nothing stored. Stresses me out. I plan to go to her house( an hour away) and clean her house while she's gone. Another thing she lacks in. They make fun of me, roll their eyes and ask of I want their scraps to vacuum seal or can. My son is marginally better but not much. Daughter has a 7 year old and son has 3 yr. and 6 months. I've stored diapers. Made them both a power out box for Christmas. I can't afford to stock their homes. They would just laugh at me. Daughter in law is difficult sometimes and she would say I'm meddling. So I just keep stocking my place but it's a small log cabin in the woods and I don't have room to house them. That's 7 more people. What gets me is they know I won't let the babies go hungry and they are their bargaining chip.

Items like soy sauce and other high salt items rarely go bad. Salt is a preservative after all. And most dates are best buy not expiration so as long as an item looks and smells ok, I usually use it anyways, never mind the date.

because you just added it to her apartment do you know how much the freezer costs in utilities per month? I am considering adding one, it has to go in my attached garage but its insulated except for the door and I think it will do okay...just curious on utility costs to run one.

    • @poorandposh8231
      @poorandposh8231  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I know some peanut butter and other foods are healthier and actually last longer, even without preservatives” than the choices we made. I’m not a Non-GMO person because I cannot afford to be. I eat at my financial level of healthy- such as not eating out, cooking most if not all meals from home. I own an air fryer but still like my homemade fries deep fried. If you can do that I encourage it 😀
