  • Replica RX2N tachometer/speedometer installed on a 1987 Yamaha YX600 4cyl motorcycle. XJ550 motor. Had to use Gray wire from igniter to get tach to operate, orange wire from factory tach did not operate tach. Used "check engine" light as my oil level light signal. Great video brother I’m thinking of getting one of these gauges and your video has been the most helpful video out there. Honestly, A lot of videos have no talking so I have no idea why they even post them, btw you bike looks really cool.

    Hi Eric, thanks to your video I figured out that I could get RPM signal from the pick up coil on my FZS 600. In the process I discovered that that the yellow wire on the replica meter is labelled the wrong way. In the wiring diagram it says oil but when I connected it to my fuel sensor the fuel gauge and the warning light worked like it's suppose to! Happy days! If they wouldn't make the manual in a horrible Chinglish then they would sell so much more of this product and stop getting all this negative feedback. Now I only have to find a gear indicator box that will feed ground connection for each gear and the gear indicator will work, let me know if you stumble upon something!

    Thanks for the informative video Eric. I accept no responsibility if you undertake this suggestion: But if you wanted to start (or add) your machines original mileage to the unit, securely stick (two or three wraps of sellotape works well) two magnets on a drill chuck 180 degrees apart. Now power up the unit's "permanent +12v', the "power on +12v" and ground. Connect the Hall Sensor, now spin the drill up so the Hall sensor can pick up the magnetic field. If you wanted to speed this process up you can use four magnets set 90 degrees apart, you 'may' be limited by the speedo limit. If you have a LOT of mileage to do you might want to secure the drill and Hall sensor. If you wanted to speed the process up even more you can adjust the wheel circumference. What happens if you go pass the odometer number you want? I don't know, I guess you have to suck it up or go all the way to 99,999, and HOPE it changes over to 00,000 so you can start again.

    Hey bro can you post the picture of wiring diagram it came with? For the gear shift there are going to be 6 wires, you'll need to rearrange them as per your configuration mine is a five gear bike so i removed the yello/pink one and it worked fine. Secondly you don't need a resistor for the fuel gauge just hook it up with fuel wire then shift to odometer/trip mode and hold right and left button for like 10 second you'll enter the resistor menu and you can set the resistance accordingly, I have figured out almost everything apart from check engine and battery one ._.

    • @abarrick09
      @abarrick09 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Eric, I got it figured out. I learned that on my diagram the red wire (always on) is actually the main power wire. The black wire (electrical door look) is actually the real (always on) power wire. I also learned you have to let the display time out and return the main screen for it to save your changes. I plan on doing a very in depth video of this install in the future as this gauge is pretty awesome for the price.

    • @frankosmith6718
      @frankosmith6718 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This spark plug or coil thing rarely works. You must trace a wire out from your pulse generator. There are usually three wires going to the rectifier and CPU Unit and two other wires coming out there, and one of them is the pulse. Mine was blue n yellow. You can tap into it at the connector or just cut away a small bit of insulation and tape on your pulse feed to the revs feed / clock.

When I turn mine on it does the cycle thing but when it gets back to 0 RPM it just turns off. At first I thought it was because the battery wasn't strong enough or loose connection but every time I turn it on it just turn right back off.

    • @frankosmith6718
      @frankosmith6718 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You must get the magnets with the opposite poles/ pushing away from each other/ facing out towards the sensor. Wave a magnet across the sensor and watch the speed clock. If nothing happens interchange the wires until you get a slight reading then you have the correct wire polarity. Its a bollox but you have to do it.

    • @Toolin.Around
      @Toolin.Around  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely do what is called a "bench test" Isolate the 12v main constant wire for the gauge and the switched 12v wire twist them together and attach to positive terminal on battery. Then isolate the ground wire for the gauge and put it on the the negative terminal on the battery and the cluster should turn on now you'll know the cluster functions. Look up the fire blade wiring diagram and start with those 3 wires to at least get it to turn on with the key. If you dont have the wiring diagram take a test light and start probing wires. With the key off find one that has 12vdc positive with key off and attach to constant wire on cluster. Then test wires with key switch on and off to find one that has 12v only when key is on. The ground is a bit tricky because most of the wires will show some sort of continuity. But if you get a multimeter and attach the black end directly to the ground on the battery and set meter to ohm's probe the wires until one shows 0 or 1 that's pretty much a direct ground. That will get you in the right direction. Hope this helps.

    I just posted a whole install on this guage and its short comings in the kat rider forum ,,, ill tell you guys a few quick things here,,The conectors are called 2.8mm mini conectors , order two 9pin and one 3 pin theyre like 1.50 ea from hong kong having the right conectors makes your install look pro, leave a pigtail on your oem conector so you can use it for reference and pin out quickly from your oem shop manual, ,,, on suzuki you can use your stock hall sensor,,,but DO NOT conect the center ground on the koso knock off ONLY connect the two outside hall leads, and EFI is not a system ,, ready for this one ? It stands for Engine Fault Indicator, EFI get it? or more comenly known to us as a check engine idiot light..Duh!...chinglish! The check engine light and your oil light are both grounded sensors meaning power to the sensor and when the sensor goes out of range it grounds out triggering the idiot light ,, last thing is power std bye pwr is switched pwr from your key ,,, mem power is constant, allways on power from your battery ,,, sorry this got long but the instructions are worthless that come with this and even after 40yrs of wiring yachts, cars and bikes i even had a hard time decoding this damn thing Hope this helps some of you guys keep the rubber side down

    • @horacegray2417

      Eric Leal one last question for you when you're running the power I know one should go directly to the battery and one to the ignition source right. I noticed a black and red wire on the back of the gauge need to be on the same power source or else the gauge will not turn on my problem is everything seems to work fine but when I turn the gauge off it loses all power and all memory any idea what's going on? I noticed yours runs the clock when the gauges are off so that means you still have a power source?
