- GoPro Hero 12 Vs Insta360 GO 3: You want to travel light, and you also want to travel easy and vlog on the way too. You don’t want any gear that’s too complicated, and you really don’t want to spend hours editing either. So which small camera should you get for your travel vlogs? Techpackers, I’ve got you - Stick with me, because in this video, I run through a comparison of features and real footage between the Insta360 GO 3, and the latest release in the GoPro Hero series, the 12 Black. You get less battery time when taking it out of the main device or w/e you call it. And there is no swappable memory (cards) due to internal memory. Those are two pretty big downsides for me.
Man I ended up getting DJI pocket 3. What a camera

I'm waiting for my Go 3. I have an Insta360 X3, a Go Pro 10, a Sony a7C, Sony RX100Va and some others. But honestly, with regards to sharpness, I don't think I'd notice a huge difference between any unless viewing on a screen that was at least 75 inches! Of course, the a7C will have the most beautiful, natural look, but I like the Insta360s for various other, quick, and convenient video and trick shots at different angles, etc. Besides, there's a huge difference in weight and compatibility between carrying around a tiny Go 3, and an a7C on a Weevil S gimbal all the time!
Totally - I'm pretty pragmatic these days - in fact I always have been. I love light, easy, multipurpose gear. I was an evangelist for the smallest phones before smartphones took over, but even now, I use a 13 Mini. All my editing is on the smallest iPad Pro I could get away with too. And that was an upgrade for a straight vanilla iPad 3 years ago now.
I have question about screen. Because I do have problem with insta360 screen in the past with polarized sunglasses so hard to see with sunglasses on. How Insta360 GO3 screen look if you wear polarized sunglasses ?
Hey there - I don't have polarised lenses in my prescription sunglasses, so can't give you any personal insights for that I'm afraid

a 2.7k can’t be better than a 4k/ 5.3k camera the quailing isn’t that great on the Go 3 but it’s a good second camera for some cool little shots

I had the Hero12... I also returned it within 3 days. I was not impressed for the price and it just didn't work out for what I wanted it for. I like to record when I'm on my scooter or motorcycle. The versatile and smallness of the GO3 is unrivaled. You can literally stick it to anything iron and it sticks. You can also buy a pack of button magnets and stick them a bunch of places...endless shots! I got the black go3...so stealthy. I also use it at the gym sometimes, just stick it to anything and it doesn't bug anyone and basically no one ever sees it.
I know, it's a little bloody marvel!
Question. Can I not record in horizon lock automatically? It throws me off that the screen is not straight when I’m recording on the go 3

I have GoPro 11 and Go 3. I'm never buying another GoPro. Overheating, clunky mounts, forget it. Terrible.

Hmm about the mounts, GoPro has kinda clunky mounts yea, but I do feel quite confortable with them. I rely on them when tightened correctly, but with this magnet mount I dont know. Havent tried it. What if you swing your arm against your shirt while paddeling on a kayak or what if you go really fast on a bike or roller coaster would it still hold? Idk. Even though GoPro has clunky mounts I find relyability most important.
Image quality and sound is what’s most important, no point having a versatile camera that shoots poor footage and poor sound.
Well yes, though I don’t think any of these are poor. Action cam type sound capture is what it is.

I wouldn’t count on GO3 as a vlogging camera. Reason is you get more or less decent video quality only in direct sunlight Btw that’s exactly how most utubers do those comparison videos - lunchtime on sunny days. As soon as it gets a bit darker (a cloud, or morning/evening sun, or not very heavily lit room) - quality becomes unacceptable, even when played on phone screen. Total crap with no details, extreme contrast and pumped up colors. My first action camera 15 years ago made videos of same quality.
Im selling my GO3 because there’s really no use case for it.
Need to film action sports - get a traditional GoPro or DJI Action (which is a little smaller). With proper mount it’s pretty comfy, while image quality is on another level.
Need to vlog - get DJI Pocket. Or use traditional action camera. Or your iPhone.
Can tolerate crappy video quality and want a POV camera that you forget you are wearing - get a Insta360 GO2. Can find them at around 200$ now.
Insta360 did a great job at marketing this product. But spending 400$ on it makes no sense

You said the GO 3 quality becomes unacceptable in less than perfect light. That’s not true. I have plenty of other videos showing that. But you know, if you’re not happy with my video, that’s cool. Up to you.
You really don’t have to be that defensive. “Don’t like your video” and “Disagree with one of arguments” are different things.
Regarding video quality - there are plenty of reviews from big channels that mention low image quality in low light. Which you will obviously get with such a tiny sensor.
Here’s a transcript form 30K+ tech channel “I was really quite impressed with video quality overall, as long as there is sufficient light. But at the price of the GO 3 I have to compare it to other action cameras in the same price bracket. And 2.7K at only 30fps might be rather limiting to some people. And if you’re shooting in FreeFrame mode, which I much prefer, you’re stuck at 1440p which as we approach 2024 does feel a little meagre”
Go3 is a fun camera overall. My doubt is it’s a good reliable option for vlogging. Rather a backup @@TheTechPacker
Up until the Ace Pro, most action cameras struggled a lot on low light. The GO 3 is essentially a similar tiny camera to to the GO 2 with a slightly different sensor and a better heatsink. So yeah, it's gonna struggle with low light like most do. To be honest though, I've had more trouble on bright overcast days - but I no longer shoot as much as I once did - 3 kids tend to steal time away from you! I think the 2.7K for 30fps being too little is a little bit of a red herring - though I will definitely say I wish it was 2.7K/50 - that would suit me much better. Without having to process a Freeeframe video. Headline data cards are one thing - the overall experience is another. And yes, fun and ease of use is a bit thing for me. Trumps IQ - unless the gap is just too big.
